There's a lot of stuff you can do in the field. You can do basic graphic design, which you can make cd covers, book covers, magazine ads, etc. Magazines can be a full time job and you don't have to work freelance with that. Be warned though, working for magazines or other publications can be very tiring work due to the deadlines and workload.

You can also be a package designer, which is one of the highest paying jobs within graphic design. In this field you make designs for packages, like 12-pack cases, boxes for frozen foods, etc. You also have the option of logo design where you'll be making logos with adobe illustrator. Lets see, you can be a typographer where your in charge of text with designs. With animation you can be one of the people that make graphics for weather forecasts, credits for TV shows, etc.

Basically, there's a lot you can do. ;)

erm. well, it depends what you're most interested in. personally, i perfer doing stuff like logos, web design, cd covers and the like, but you could also go into all sorts of stuff: tv commercials, music videos, makeing the spiffy intros to tv shows... whatever really. though usually the fact that you either have to be really really good or REALLY REALLY lucky to get a job is pretty much universal no matter what you decide to do with this.
