Honestly I played the first phase of closed beta.

I'm not a hardcore mmoer, i hate WoW with a passion, and I hate paying monthly for a game I only have limited time a day to enjoy!

But this game man...I am hooked...I dont know what it is about it...but I love it...

The reason why Im posting now is, the first phase of open beta is about to start! Everything is wiped so you'd be starting with the rest of the server!

It should be back up by next week.

How can an MMO be turn based? That goes against all logic.

It does look good, however I doubt it will pull me away form WoW, especially when the new expansion is nearly upon us.

Same here. I've found that ANY MMORPG that doesn't require a monthly fee = dog shit. I'm not saying the game sucks - but a game you pay for monthly will always have better support and fewer bugs / cheats.

Agreed. And WoW constantly reminds me EXACTLY what I'm paying for.

And $15 per month is cheap anyway~

Most deff. Even if you work retail and don't have a college education you can afford a WoW subscription :)

Anyone who "hates" WoW obviously cannot appreciate what an amazing Western RPG is all about.

JFTR I adore my JRPGs, don't get me wrong.

Anyway I digress, and will probably check out Atlantis as soon as I get home~

To get back on topic ... I'd like to know how an MMORPH - is able to support turn based combat? It flys in the face of logic of what an MMORPG is. Unless they implemented it in a really silly / foolish way - there was is no way you can have turne based combat and still have the game be considered in the same realm as the standard MMORPG.

But then again there was a MMORPG called "Fairytale" which was turn based...maybe it's a similar engine?

That's the thing - A MMORPG is a persistent world. Combat isn't instanced. When you fight a mob in WoW - you fight it in the field. Other people can walk by - watch or engage. Think about turn based combat - FF style. How exactly would that work in WoW? It couldn't. The only way it would make sense is if you and the mob disappeared while you fought (and went into an instanced fight) and reappeared when you were done. If this didn't happen - then you as a player would stumble across battles of people fighting in turn based combat.

It seems counter intuitive when the rest of the game is "real time". The point of an MMORPG is interaction - how could you interact with these two people locked in turn based combat? You would be locked into it as well?

I'm sorry - that sounds clunky as Hell. The instance proposal makes more sense. Then again - if you start doing that - then you really don't have an MMORPG anymore. You have an online RPG like Diablo or Guild Wars.

It's neither a WRPG or amazing. Not sure what more to say. I guess the second point is debatable, but calling an MMORPG a WRPG is like calling a JRPG a WRPG, or calling Final Fantasy 6 a Fighting Game. They're different genres.

A game that has complete freedom and let's you truely role play... that's the epitome of the WRPG "genre", that games like the Elder Scrolls have been very successful at doing. WoW has much more in common with JRPGs than with WRPGs, but it's an MMORPG - a third and completley different genre.

Good point :) Still - it's not a ball busting grind like FFXI is.

Depends on who you ask. :) But this isn't a WoW thread so let's not get into that here.

Well as a 2GB bloody installation file I had this downloading overnight and installed it this morning.

The bad news is that I was runningh late for work and actually didn't get to play it yet.

All I can say is that it better be worth the hassle.
