don't nominate yourself, please don't ask people to nominate you.

1) be an active contributor of the forum
2) be on often, preferably daily
3) have been a member for a decent while, 3+ months min, preferably more

curious to see who you guys will suggest ~

People tend to have very selective vision. Anything that doesn't apply specifically to what they want at that time tends to fall by the wayside.

I have a few nominations because I don't think anyone else will nominate them:

First is Eriol (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=54701). In Eriol's two years spent on this site, he's spent all of his time in the VGM section. Not to mention that he has contributed over 120 topics, and innumerable soundtrack links within them.

Second is Beulah_Page (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=119973). I don't know if she is up to maintaining such a trafficked forum or not, but her language skills, collection of soundtracks, and patience in helping others are unrivaled.

Then there's Sharon Agathon (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=56800), aka Kienshin. She's a "saucy bint" and can "take care of business".

I woud give my voice to Jessie too if he's ok.

But why the hell can't you ask who is agreed to be nominated before giving names..

Now, i just want to point the 2 most important things for a good "vgm modo".

1st is activity.. of course, no need to explain why.
2nd is for me the most important point: Knowledge.

I'd have no problem to be moderated by someone that have a good knowledge and respect about VGM.
I certainly can't accept anyone that post and talk about a game rip under the name "OST". Someone that don't know what is a redbook, a doujin..etc..

I do not know everyone on the boards, but at least Jessie is probably the closest member to my "view" of a good all around VGM fan & collector.
+ he's active, and very generous. I can't ask for more.

Oops, quite right - I am obviously blind. I don't see the purpose of that condescending tone though, my friend - isn't the decent thing to delicately remind somebody that they've been a fool (ie, without making your opening gambit ambiguous at best, rude at worst) and judge them based upon the joviality of their reaction? In any case, forget I spoke.

I wasn't expecting sugar language, and if you'd given it I'd probably have moaned at that as well.

As a technician, I would have thought you would have more experience than most - given that most technicians make a living explaining complicated things to stupid people, in such a way that said stupid people don't feel that they're being patronised... I'm a technician (repairing computers and so forth) and that's what I do all day. ;)

Anyhoo, sorry - yes, I am a bit highly strung at the moment - nothing to do with this place, more to do with home life, and said technician job being under threat due to redundancies... So, my apologies.

Hey mang not to be rude (no punn intended) but it seems like you get offended a lil to easily, nobody is out to get you man.

I wasn't offended - I purely made a statement that my idiocy could have been highlighted in a way that made me feel less of a stupid numbskull (which I admit I am, having managed to miss out one of the most important features of the first post of this thread) than it did...

As usual, I'm regretting opening my mouth at all, so I'll shut up now - thanks folks!

Well, I'm obviouisly blind, but I'm not an idiot. If I'd seen that particular section, then I wouldn't have posted. Wouldn't you assume that it was an honest mistake and not a case of brain-dead moronity? (Is that even a word? It should be...)

This exchange is the first we've ever had - do your first meetings with people go this way in the real world as well, or are you a little less likely to make your introductory sentence a new person one which makes them feel three inches tall? It's very easy to be brusque on the Internet - and it's easy to forget that behind the keyboard there sits another person with feelings and an ego that isn't entirely immune to bruising. If I were in front of you, I'd have the benefit of body language, tone, etc, to help me decide how to take it - but when you have just text, well, you need to signal your intentions in another way. If your intentions were good, then I owe you a beer.

Sarah's reply is a perfect example of how you don't have to try scoring points off somebody whilst still getting across the relevant information. It's perfectly sensible to say that you shouldn't nominate yourself - I have no problem whatsoever with that, and as I have indicated, I'm sorry that I failed to notice that (quite clear) instruction on my initial perusal of this page.

Of course I can repeat for you: I don't know you, so I wouldn't know. I've seen people not getting the most simple things on the internet, best example are the people posting requests in the DL-section.

I'm not Sarah and since I've been raised and still are handled with a lot of coldness from the people surrounding me, I guess this rubbed off on me. Of course, I could've said something like "Ooo, you silly little boy didn't see that Sarah said nominating yourself is prohibited~ *giggles*", but that wouldn't be me. I'm working in a shop and I have to be shitfriendly everyday even to people who are assholes to me, so I guess that pulls some of that friendliness out of my private life, but I still think that wasn't rude, and I don't understand what you are argueing about. I was stating a mere fact, which would be that you weren't able to properly read the first posting. I prefer a straightforward style to speak. I don't hop around the bush until someone gets it, and as I said, doing that would not be me, neither would it be me if I was honeytongued.

Jessie

Okay here's who i nominate

Sherlock: because she is a ripper/uploader and i know she would keep the section and everyone in it in check

OrangeC: because he is another ripper/uploader and is online very often

Domingo (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=75932): he is another great uploader is online very often and is a great guy too.

All of these would make a great mod.

Of course I can repeat for you: I don't know you, so I wouldn't know. I've seen people not getting the most simple things on the internet, best example are the people posting requests in the DL-section.

Definitely - fools abound. But the day you become so jaded that you assume that every man is a fool - and treat them accordingly, is a sad day.

I'm not Sarah and since I've been raised and still are handled with a lot of coldness from the people surrounding me, I guess this rubbed off on me.

I've had nothing but coldness and unfair treatment since the day I was born - and I guess it rubbed off on me too, but in a different way. It has made me ultra sensitive, sometimes to a fault.

Whatever your upbringing, there is no excuse for being cold towards other people. That makes you just as bad as those who showed no warmth to YOU.

Of course, I could've said something like "Ooo, you silly little boy didn't see that Sarah said nominating yourself is prohibited~ *giggles*", but that wouldn't be me. Fair comment, but mine was an honest mistake. I repeat - I am not an idiot. I just did that thing we all do - looked, but didn't see. Don't tell me you've never done that in your life.

There are clear differences between "honeytongued", "shit friendly" and "courteous" -- honeytongued is pointless, shit friendly is equally pointless. Courteous, however, is surely something that you owe to each and every person you come into contact with.

I'm not arguing - I'm discussing, my friend.

I see this line so much, particularly online - the one that goes, "I'm not rude, I'm just straightforward" -- I really don't buy it. You can be straightforward and courteous. It takes extra effort - and cynicism - to turn a simple statement into biting sarcasm. I know, because I do it all the time - which may explain why not many people like me all that much. ;)

Seriously though - I don't want an argument; I just wanted to make you aware that it's not necessary to treat somebody with contempt (or even give them cause to *suspect* you hold them in contempt) upon your first meeting.

If you meet 1,000 people, and you think they're all assholes, and you treat them all like assholes, you'll deal with 999 assholes quickly and cleanly. But there will be one person in there who deserved some courtesy and patience.

I say this, because I'm usually that person, and from what you say about yourself, I'm willing to bet that you are too...

I'm sorry for dragging this even more off topic - and if anybody thinks I've been motivated by aggression or anything negative, that's not the case. I admit, I'm bringing my own personal psychological problems into this discussion - maybe I'm only doing that because I feel at home around these parts, I don't know...

I'd also like to nominate my boy Simon B.. He works really hard and it shows. The Shmup music [shmuzik] thread is one of the best in the VGM section. He might not be here every single day, but he always answers questions and he is very dedicted to keeping up his thread. No one else in this entire forum has a more vast knowledge for the shoot 'em up genre. (well, maybe except for me lol...j/k)

Seeing as I haven't had much exposure with any of the individuals nominated, I am just going to second the sentiments that Anatar expressed in his/her post with regards to characteristics of a decent moderator. Though I would would say that knowledge of game music is slightly more important than forum activity. How much music an individual has provided on this forum would be a very distant fourth as "uploading" mp3s is not something I see as being a necessary duty for a forum moderator.

Wow, I really haven't been here much, lately. Am honored by the nom, but I'm definitely not up for this. Ironically, not because of maintaining a highly trafficked forum, but because I've been made an OST moderator at another one - animeost.net - and that's quite time-consuming. (Though we're temporarily at chibi-osts.net because some dude stole our domain >.<)

Mind you, actually most of us rippers are dedicated uploaders (most of us started their collection threads) and have the knowledge you mentioned, and not only those who have been nominated in this thread here.
I don't know about the complaints, but I think to some point everyone who is majorly in this section and contributes to it complained about it at times.

Just thought I'd peek my head into this thread for a second.

The thousand dollar question is how are some of the current moderators still moderators.

Apparently, there are two already. They just never really get involved here.

You know, for the record I mostly only log on here every few hours just to prune topics or move topics to the right forums. In fact, I think I do a pretty good job at moderating around here to be perfectly honest since it's the most active forum. Granted some topics slip through my fingers but it's only natural as I need to sleep and do other things regularly other than manage threads on a forum. I even try my hand at uploading but I'll most likely leave that up to people who know better than myself at what the people want.

Then again, I know I can't always be here and plan to try and work something out with the administrators.

This topic is now pretty useless.
