and it annoys me that I need to use my guide- that i'm trying to stay away from- to know how to do some of these side quests. The nabrudis medallion side quest for example would have taken me hours and hours to figure out if I hadn't have given in and used my guide. It's not fun having all these secrets and side quests being virtually impossible. The game forces you to buy the guide to get the most out of it.

Yeah, there are a couple of hunts (for example) that you simply would never figure out unless you reach for a guide. That is a bit annoying. Nonetheless...the game is an epic.

Hunts? I was able to unlock most of them without a guide, and those that require a special way of luring them like the Carrot do have hints in the game itself.

The guide is not without errors, though.

There is so much in the game that you cannot figure out without the guide.

The rare game requirements are a great example. Yes, I'd suddenly know to kill all of a certain species, zone, and come back for a rare game to spawn

The hunts are fine, since nearly all of them give you good directions to the location of the marks. But I agree with Knegative that rare game and such are ridiculously well-hidden. That said, most Rare Game are usually found by accident anyway, it's just that type of thing.

I think the Nabudis medallion sidequest is reasonably easy to figure out for a completionist. There are some very obscure sidequests though. Not that there's anything wrong with that per se, I enjoy having lots of extra stuff to do and at least no major plot-related scenes are hidden from you.

Has anyone completed the bestiary? If yes, does it mention anything about how to get Tournesol or Zodiac Spear? I've never managed to complete it (will do this time) so I was always wondering whether there are any hints for those. I remember on a monster's info empyreal soul was mentioned but I don't remember if it said how to acquire it or if it is related to a recipe. Also, has anyone tried to get 2 Tournesol?

the zodiac spear is in a room filled with treasure chests in the necrohol of nabudis. It will only appear however if you dont open four particular chests that appear earlier in the game .

He means does it mention how to get it, in-game, within the bestiary entries, Harkus.

This is an interesting question. Has anyone completed the bestiary FULLY, to get all the additional pages?

Let them step forward and answer~

I completed the Bestiary.

And there are entries which speak of Gemsteel, Empyreal Soul, and Serpentarius. But nothing about the Tournesol, AFAIK.

The Serpentarius entry mainly focuses on the fact that "there were not only 12 Apostles, but a thirteenth as well!" and how it bears that jewel, it refers to Zodiark and how you can steal it from them, in place of the usual Zodiac "Gems" that Espers carry. Nothing about how to make it or how it's part of the Tournesol.

As a matter of fact, I just completed it for the first time a couple days ago and was reading through it out of boredom and curiousity as to what's hinted at in the game and how.

But don't get me wrong, there are other in-game hints as well. When I get around to it, I'm gonna go speak to everyone to see if I can uncover any more in-game hints. On each of my playthroughs I always happened to notice a new one. I wouldn't doubt somewhere in Ivalice there's a greendot that hints at the Tournesol.

But I agree about the Rare Game. Don't people talk about some of them, though?

Any reference to the spear?

Zak

Of course not. I think if there WAS a reference to the spear anywhere in the game, even in reading between the lines, it would have been reported and widely known, because people still say that there is no reference and as much of a nerd as I consider myself, the internet showed me that surprisingly there are people out there with a lot more time on their hands (ESPECIALLY in the FFXII world), Though I did make a list of things that there are references to (recipes, etc.). But you never know, I might find something that they didn't.

They DO hint about a lot of the advanced recipes, like the ones involving the Unpurified Ethers, and some of the Halcyon ones. But, nothing at all relating to the recipes that use the Gems. Though, I believe in the Gem recipes, the ingredients they share are used just that once, and I think it covers each of them. Nothing (as far as I can see) tying them together. Then again, I look at the word in blue first. And, there is an entry ABOUT the Gems. Also I don't think there is a reference to the Ultima Sword.

But anyway, maybe there might be something... if you read between the lines. Or, in the main "Observation" pages. But anyway, there IS a transcript of all the Bestiary pages somewhere on GameFAQs.

But anyway, my "in-game-hint" hunt and exploration is far from complete, they don't have a transcript of things people say and all. I'm actually gonna go continue right now. I also haven't read the whole Bestiary cover to cover, but you can too, it's on Gamefaqs.

EDIT: LMAO I don't know if this is old but I just found a great homage reference. Some guy in Rabanastre says something along the lines of "Of course, even if you count the bards... that would mean countin' the spoony bards too... that would be another matter altogether.

EDIT: Again, you guys probably know about the Tantalus reference where some guy in Archades talks about seeing the TANTALUS MUMMERS. I forget if it's mentioned during the intial stages of the chop sidequest, because, ya know, they change.

There's also this guy in Balfonheim who's saying some random gibberish, which I have the slightest feeling it's a hint at SOMETHING, done very horribly. Anyone know the hidden meaning behind it? The one sitting right outside the Aerodrome.
