Hi, I'm a new member here, also rather new to FF. I own Final Fantasy X and XII for Ps2, and Final Fantasy IV for GBA. Currently I'm working on FFX, and really enjoying it...except for one thing that bothers me. It's not that I dislike Blitzball, I just suck at it. Anyway, I checked out an FAQ on gamefaqs for beginner tips, and found some good stuff, but one thing said "If you didn't get the Jecht shot in the dream sequence, reload or RESTART THE GAME. It's that good."

Now I feel like I'm totally missing out... will blitzball be impossible? Will I miss out on prizes? Apparently winning leagues gives you Wakka's overdrives, and I would definitely like those. It should also be noticed that I lost the first tourney against the goers... am I royally screwed? I'm 15+ hrs in and DON'T want to restart everything.

Thanks.

No BlitzBall will not be impossible. The Jecht Shot is useful in those first few games as it knocks out two opponents who are currently blocking you when you go to shoot. Sign some good players such as Wedge for a forward or Jumal for goalie and BlitzBall will be easy. I found as my characters level up I don't use the Jecht Shot that much.

It wont be impossible but what the Jecht Shot is especially good for is the game against the Goers in the Tournament Final. Still, it depends where in the game you are. If you're relatively advanced in terms of game progress then going back to get the Jecht Shot shouldn't be a big issue - it's always available.

It isnt impossible, though its much harder without the Jecht Shoot.
Actually Ive never played with Tidus because it wass too easy with him. ;D

It's definately not impossible, the first time i had a go at blitzball i managed to beat the Goers by using the sphere shot which tidus starts out with.
A good tactic i found was that if you win the ball from the blitzoff, swim back to your own goal with your midfielder which should cause the opposition's midfielder and strikers to come towards you, meaning you can pass the ball through to your strikers who will only have to deal with the defender infront of them.
I find this to be a good tactic at getting a goal early on and it only takes one goal to win! :)

I haven't played the game in years but I'm sure you can still get the Jecht Shot. You just have to go to the ship that you're first given the chance to learn it and you can replay the dream sequence (I think it's best to call it flashback sequence). I don't remember though in which ship you have to go. Maybe in the one that you board on Kilika and head for Luca but as I'm not certain you may have to try them all. Anyway when on the right ship, search the deck and you should find a ball. Touch it and you'll replay the sequence. If you do it right you'll get the Jecht Shot.

Anyone who says to restart if you didnt get it is an idiot. You dont need it at all. Just go get a few good players and you probably wont even need to rely on Tidus as much. Proper passing around creates space anyways so you dont have to use a shot that knocks away two people. Its a shot that might win you a few games at the start but after a while it becomes impossible not to score with it and makes things far too easy.

It is much easier with the shot, but I never knew about it until i was finished with the game and started to look up hidden treasures and stuff, but I still beat the first blitzball game without the Jecht Shot.

Thanks for all the help, everyone.

I'm not sure how advanced you mean by relatively advanced, Aqueous, I'm probably the normal length for 15 hours. I'm just about to fight the Crawler/Negator. I know that, because I failed it once. Heh.

Thanks, though.

Oh yeah, who is this Wedge fellow?

Ah, yeah, sorry about that I wasn't particularly specific on that "relatively" note was I.

Basically if you've got the airship, that's an instant port to getting the Jecht Shot.

If you're at the Calm Lands or beyond, that suggests you may have a weapon with No Encounters on and so can trek back to the Jecht Shot with at least no random encounters.

If you weren't lucky with drops, then by Zanarkand you can farm the Purifying Salt for a No Encounter weapon.

Incidentially, if at any stage of the game you come close to Kilika again (can't remember how locations pan out at the moment since it's 6am here, I haven't slept and I haven't played the game for awhile) then grab the chance to get the Shot there aswell.

Otherwise, just sit tight. Blitz won't be much more than a money drain until the latter stages of the game anyway (there I go again with the lack of clarity again - by latter I mean when you've got the airship, basically).

Happy trails, enjoy FFX

PS: Wedge is a Blitz player. He's one of the guards in Luca on the main foyer screen. His starting stats are exceptional especially as a forward.

It's a good thing to have near the star of blitzball, but you can still win games well enough with Sphere Shot. As soon as you can, get Larbeight and Vilucha as your Left and Right Forwards.

Biggs and Wedge have been in several FF games. In FFX Biggs is the short, stalky one, and Wedge is the tall, skinny one. In all the other games they're in, it's the other way around.

Anyway, Wedge is a good shooter for a while, but then his shooting drops and catching skyrockets, and he becomes one of the best goalies in the game with 62 CA, compared to Nimrook's 67.

Before the thread gets old... has anyone acquired the Aurochs Spirit technique? If yes, what does it do? Also, what the hell is Miyu? A man or a woman? I've never figured that out. LOL

I say that you should try Brother out. He starts out as an amazing player and just keeps getting better. He definitely makes up for the Jecht Shot.

Auroch's Spirit makes Wakka jump up, and if you have any Aurochs remaining, he draws even more shooting power from them, then he resonates with orange lightning and throws the ball into the goal harder than a horse can kick you in the balls.

Miyu is a chick, two reasons:
1. Boobs
2. High Heels

Thanks. If anything else it really seems flashy. Maybe I'll manage to get it in my new file.

OMG. Miyu has boobs? How the hell did I miss that? And I always have him I mean her as my goalie.
