Okay, let's see how long I can keep three rumbles going simultaneously...

So, in the previous thread we decided that the topic is going to be Characters, specifically NPCs. So let's roll!

I've compiled a list of 32 characters (all of which ARE memorable, don't worry) but instead of posting a list, I'll let them be revealed as they come. Don't worry about not getting to make nominations, whoever you wanted is probably in there, there's only so much you can leave out of 32 so keep your fingers crossed.

But I will tell you this, straight off the bat: Aside from not including Cinna, Blank, Marcus, or Beatrix, I also did NOT include Kuja. Hopefully no one has any qualms with that, but I think you can understand my reasoning.


Round 1 - Battle 1

Quina's Qu mentor, who later becomes the boss with the most HP in the game. There's no forgetting this guy...

First indirectly introduced in Burmecia, Freya's long lost love... who seemingly doesn't know her when he later resurfaces in Cleyra to save the day. Basically the key character introduced for Freya's past.
"Being Forgotten is Worse Than Death."


I gotta go with Fratley.

I like Quina and things and people associated with her, so I'll go with Quale.

Are you planning to e-mail or otherwise contact him? He hasn't logged in since early morning on the 26th and the reason he chose to stop updating was because he wasn't going to have much computer access during the summer.

I already fired off a PM to him, as I always do for tie breakers immediately. I would have gone with Ngrplz's vote if I hadn't already done that. He's probably gonna get the notification via email anyway. The 26th was only two days ago, and believe it or not the coincidence I was also considering Ngrplz since I knew him to be a participant and hadn't seen his vote yet, and wouldn't you know, at the time (several hours ago) it said his last activity was the 26th as well, and bam, here he is, and I somehow ended up going with Hawkeye since I've already had Ngr break a tie in the past.

I suppose I'll wait for Hawkeye until tomorrow evening, and if he doesn't show up then I suppose I'll count Ngrplz's vote and give this round to Fratley.

Of course I'll feel like shit if he shows up and picks Quale since Ngr actually got to it first and this would have worked out fine if I had just waited ONE more hour before closing the votes, but... seeing as I already sent the PM and all, I'd rather stick to my guns and not go back on my word.

Wow. It took me forever to find this, but I've been up a while. Nice to see it up and voting. = )

Right, so Hawkeye's time is up. Thanks to Ngrplz's mistake, I haven't got to decide again and wait for another vote.

Fratley 6-5 Quale

Close battle, but the legendary Dragon Knight triumphs over the Qu mentor. Closer battle than I expected, didn't think Fratley was disliked by many.

Round 1 - Battle 2

Aspiring Artist Michael

Artist in the Lindblum Theater District studio. Has some sort of vendetta with Lowell, either he hates him or is envious, take your pick. Besides playing cards, that's his main gimmick... oh, and hiding one of Cid's "Potions".

Minister Artania

Cid's chancellor/servant/vice-regent, as well as the Minister of Lindblum. He takes care of all the important stuff that Cid can't do while in his.... erm.... condition. Though nothing really major happens with him, he appears in almost every Lindblum main story event. Supposedly Cid's brother, hence "Uncle Artania"... eh?

Both are total throwaways. Minister Artania by means of coin toss.

Agreed. Minister Artania actually has a bit more of an advantage in my book.

I was disappointed, Michael had such potential for a sidequest.

At least we don't have a ridiculously unfair match.

Artania 8-0 Michael.

The Minister dominates this round in the battle of the Lindblumese. Let's see how far he'll go, off to a good start.

Round 1 - Battle 3

Cid Fabool

'gwok' Now there's in important character, this game's "Cid". They had a lot of fun with the Cid in this game compared to in others. He actually is "playable", but not in battle. There's a lot more to him than being the 'gwok' regent of Lindblum. The part where you actually do get to control him, you have a pretty fun "red light green light" minigame. He undergoes transformation twice... 'ribbit'... poor guy.

Mr. Morrid

The guy in the Observatory area with an unusual fetish for coffee, who also owns a small model ship... eh. The sidequest connecting to him is actually pretty fun, considering the way some coffee is hidden. He's also an outstanding Tetra Master player.


I choose Cid Fabool IX though I hate seeing Morrid go if he does.

Round 1 - Battle 4

Dr. Tot

The strange-looking guy who was the princess' mentor growing up, and the first time you meet him is in Treno, getting the Supersoft. Also, meeting him marks one of the first times Steiner starts to loosen up a bit. He also helps Eiko write a love letter which ends up traveling a long way. Anyone else think he sorta resembles Tobli from X-2?

That girl in Terra/Bran Bal, who happens to be the first person you meet with the same species as Zidane. Like Zidane, a bit more interesting than the rest of the emotionless personality-devoid Genomes.

Garland

Pilot of the Invincible, later discovered to be the real villain and wanting to take him down becomes Zidane and Kuja's common bond. Or something... but either way, some might say that me including him goes against the logic of me not including Kuja, but for some reason he's not much of an icon to this game as Kuja is and deserves more recognition.

The great oracle in the Chocobo DreamWorld, providing Choco with new powers every time he gets sleeping gas.
"You have been dreaming for a long time... let me give you a new power".

Badass villains will always win it seems... but there's still the fat chocobo.

And Agent I actually never thought of them being the same Chocobo, but for this rumble's sake they're two different ones. I always imagined the Dream Chocobo as female and the Fat one at the paradise as male. Don't ask why... hah. At least we won't have to deal with them being against each other.

I know they don't have names, but they are certainly prominent for being responsible for one of the most fun yet exceedingly annoying minigames next to Hippaul. Are you a "King of Jump Rope"? That's the one thing I haven't done... made it to 210 though.

One of this game's two "queen"s. All I gotta say is:

The bird lady, < quack quack quack >, Queen Stella. Never liked the jump rope mini-game much -- one of the few I hardly bothered with in this game.

Compared to the duck lady, the girls jumping rope hundreds of time fail to deliver.

Round 1 - Battle 7

Lani

One of this game's mini-villains, though we have her to thank for Amarant. Crazy hairstyle chick that you get to fight once, hired by the queen to track you down... encountered in Madain Sari and Fossil Roo, later turning to your side when Amarant does. She is truly ruthless.

VS.

Zorn & Thorn

The Jesters of the Moon, as some of you may know... one of which has a Yoda-talking style. For some reason, as cute as they seem, they always are on the dark side; when Alexandria hates you, they help the queen and Beatrix torture you. When Beatrix sides with you, they're suddenly working for Kuja. One encounter with them is in the castle, where they barely do anything... but then they finally meet their demise in Mt. Gulug after they join together to fuse into Meltigemini later to get beaten up by Zidane and co.


Gets my vote, Zorn and Thorn do!

Cid's wife, who turned him into an oglop after cheating on her. Pretty great wife, eh? Resides in Mt. Gulug, and Cid forgives her enough to name two of his ships after her.

Hippaul

Few remember him as the guy who hides the cards in the church. Few also remember him as the hotel guy in Alexandria. What most people remember him for, however, is that notoriously annoying racing mini-game, which you only have one chance to play unlike the Jump Rope.

Cid's other little yellow sidekick, who helps repair the airship. As soon as his work in Lindblum is done, he resides in the secret library, Daguerreo.

An Eidolon, and as a matter of fact the only one in this game who walks and talks. Also a a factor of the whole franchise, in this game Ramuh holds an interesting puzzle in the Pinnacle Rocks.

Gilgamesh always loves a good cameo... few may actually remember IX's Gilgamesh, even though they met him. Remember that four-armed man that steals your gil and calls himself "Alleyway Jack"? And pops up in Treno as well? This is Gilgamesh, though you must be a completionist to find that out.

The other important Qu - Vivi's adoptive grandfather. A lot of easter egg secrets about Vivi's past involve him, at the dwelling. Through him, we find out how Vivi ended up in Alexandria prior to the start of the game, seeing as Black Mages don't show up very often in a place like that.

The identical triplet brothers of Tantalus, mainly known for their intense gambling mini-game. It may be just gil, but it's great gil!

Everyone loves Lowell! How could you resist this charming young fellow... well, besides the fact that he's an egotistical jerk after the theater recruits him. "This place is not worthy of my talent!"


Lowell gets my vote. His little "gimmick" was kind of funny. Though, I disappointedly expected this character to be connected to a sidequest, which he wasn't. At least not as far as I know, if he is, enlighten me.

Note: In case anyone's about to say Dream Chocobo and Fat Chocobo are one in the same, that's debateable, but for the sake of this rumble, they aren't. Dream Chocobo is out already anyway.
