was thinking about this the other night and was just wondering what are the film's that you consistently hear from friends and critics alike as being one of the greatest films of all time, but you yourself have never seen... i've yet to see any of the Godfather films!!!

You haven't seen The Godfather?! I know its a Cliche but that is a set of films you must see. I really like it.

Anyway, i have never seen Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Full Metal Jacket..I'm sure they are all considered big films by many people There are loads actually. But i just never got round to watching them. I'm still yet to see 40 Year Old Virgin. And I'm told by people i know that its great.

Casablanca is worth watching. So is the 40 Year Old Virgin--although part of the reason I liked it so much was that I went in expecting nothing, and that's probably very difficult if you're surrounded by friends who keep talking about it.

Citizen Kane has proved difficult to track down in video rental stores. I probably just buy it if I see it cheap somewhere. There are a whole load of others but that's the only one I feel bad for not having watched.

The Godfather series, I'm not interested in movies about the mob. I mean, some are okay, but just... No thanks.

Really? That's surprising. As far as getting it cheap, I'd bet you could get a VHS copy for something like a dollar. That's if you still do VHS.

Everything mentioned in this thread so far, except for the 40 Year Old Virgin. ( :( )

+ a lot of other stuff. I'm really bad with seeing movies "I should've" seen. Within the last 2 years though, I caught up with the rest of society and saw the Star Wars trilogies, Scarface, Alien, Aliens, Predator, Predator 2, Terminator 1, Terminator 2 (I had seen part of this when I was really young), Spaceballs, and a few others I'm probably forgetting.

The Godfather films come to mind for me too, as well as the original Planet of the Apes movie - never ever got round to watching that one all the way through for some reason. There's probably a good few more. But can't think of what they are right now.

I've only seen parts of Full Metal Jacket, I've never seen the Day the Earth Stood Still, I've seen Nosferatu, but not since I was 6....not much else I can think of in terms of classic movies. I've been subjected to all the musicals, I've seen all the great classics and then some.
If anyone here has not seen Forbidden Planet, you should see it.
Also be sure to watch Boris Karloff's stuff. The original "The Mummy" is rather good, though it lacks much of the action and excitement of the 1999 remake.
Here's an oddity that I would also recommend: The Battleship Potemkin. It's an old (1925) Soviet propaganda film highlighting exactly why the people overthrew the Czar and established the communist regime. It's a very well-made, very compelling old silent film.

Like people have mentioned. Never fully seen Casablanca. Just the famous "Here's looking at you kid" part.

Never fully seen Gone with the Wind either. Just the famous "Frankly Miss Scarlet, I don't give a damn" part.

I read "A Raisin in the Sun," and that was enough for me. I've never seen Citizen Kane, Casablanca, The Day the Earth Stood Still, A Clockwork Orange, The Thing, Gone With The Wind, Grease, Scarface, Godfather II or III, and I've never seen Saving Private Ryan or To Kill A Mockingbird all the way through.

The classics I have seen (off the top of my head), are Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill (Vol. 1), Full Metal Jacket, The Rules of the Game (French classic), Apocalypse Now!, Schindler's Lisp, Reservoir Dogs, Seven Samarai, and Memento.
