I don't if there ever was a thread like this before but I having trouble tracing what is considered to be canon in the Dragon Ball series specially Dragon Ball Z and GT. I know now that the Garlic Jr. saga is just filler, the movies are not canon and I researched that Akira Toriyama had no involvement in GT but I still having trouble with this because there is no source that explains the canon of the series. Does anyone here have the answer for me or can point to a source that has the overall storyline?

entire dragon ball: canon.
movies: none.
dragon ball z: except garlic jr and some filler episodes: canon.
i dont know if its a movie, but the special about future trunks and the androids is canon.
toriyama didnt get involved in gt until baby, because he considered the plot of searching for the balls across the galaxy was, besides gay, stupid, so in the later episodes, myu appears, and so does baby.

VERY personally, i consider GT canon, since i did like it (specially after the search ark) and the ending is a much better ending than that of DBZ (which is, like it or not, a simple "the adventure continues in GT").

granted, i havent read the manga, but the anime ending is like that.
plus, all those flashbacks in gt's final episode made me cry inside (and outside, a single tear fell from my cheek), and made me realize i had followed this series for 20 years.. i saw this (the entire series) as an infant and child, seeing goku fight pilaf, the red ribbon, etc etc, as a teen, seeing goku fight veyita, freezer, cell, etc....

Manga is 50x better. There isn't 10 episodes of screaming and angst filled flashbacks as filler between fights.

Don't get me wrong, it's my favorite anime, but when I read the manga I was kinda disappointed at the anime.
