What would you guys like to see in future Final Fantasy games?
Your favorite battle system from a previous game? An ability that was only used in one of the past games? Or maybe there is something that pissed you off so bad you would like to see S-E completely abandon? Elaborate.

Personally, I would like to see more use and variance on the concept of classes/jobs. IX became my favorite game when I discovered the leveling up system; it was my dream come true when everyone had set abilities that they learned from equipment, instead of like X where everyone learns everything, but they still have set stats (ugh). But I also loved the way dresspheres (X-2) worked, where you could choose which character had which job. So I would love it if S-E did more experimenting with classes and jobs.

Speaking of repeating or renovating old systems, it would be fabulous if the junction system (VIII) did not come back. That stupid thing was horrible.

Also, it would be really cool if more characters per game starting popping up. FFVI has fourteen playable characters! That is two times as many as in FFX. The only problem I see with this is the "quantity over quality" issue, where they make too many characters and they then don't have any time to give these characters good personalities and backgrounds. :/

Kinda, but that XP was only given when fighting on the overworld and after defeating bosses. So at the end, your idle characters are half or less than what your mains are.

I want the next Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy XIII, to have really interesting characters. I don't like annoying characters like Tidus. Speaking of Tidus, I hope the voice acting is way better in Final Fantasy XIII. There is some good voice acting in Final Fantasy XIII, but I want them to do better than that. Great characters with great voices give the game more, you know. It's easier to play a game with characters you like, rather than characters you don't like. I want to really like the characters, so that if they die at the end or something, I actually feel sorry for them.

I want also better environments that look realistic. This is going to be on the PS3, so I want something great. With all the CG Square Enix uses, though, I don't know. That takes up a lot of space, so all that space used for CG might limit the graphics for the environments, but I hope not. Other things, hmm... well the battle system looks amazing already, so nothing to add to that but me wanting to see more of it. Umm... what else. I want good boss battles. Especially the end boss. I don't like mediocre boss battles. Final Fantasy X-2's was meh, and Final Fantasy XII had a sorta cool but easy boss. I want a challenge.

That's about it, I think.

I liked the Sphere Grid in X, it was still limiting but not to the point of aggravation like XII's Licenses. As for combat, the turned-base is fine with me, but it needs to be spiced up a little, with combos like Return of the King or the Two Towers.

Turn based was last used in X. Before that it was used in... 1... or was it 2(I'm not sure about 9)? Either or, the rest of them have used an Active Time Battle system. It is not turn based.

XII used Active Dimension Battle.

Seeing as Turn based was used a possible 4 out of 11 times (XI or the spin-offs don't count) I doubt you could call it "stale" within the FF series. Plus I'm pretty sure according to the trailers they're using the ADB.

Actually ATB is a turn based implement. You still have to wait for your turn to make an action, its just if you omit your turn by being slow the enemies turn will commence nonetheless. So every FF excluding XI has been turn based.

1. Let's keep guns out of this. I do not want to see some guy like Irvine carrying a gun again. Now it was o.k. in FF12, but i like weapons combat better.

2. Either keep it turn based or use the same real time system as in FF12.

3. I would like to see a better class system myself.

4. I would love to see a summons system like in FF12 only without so much suckage like in FF12. The Aespers were cool but ultimately useless in combat.

5. A great expansive world to explore like in FF10 and FF12. I loved just walking around in FF12.

6. The God of all FF Music: Nobou Uematsu must return and make more music for us. For only he can bring us happiness!

7. Less stereotyping in character designs, although some hunky guys wouldn't be a bad idea.

From the trailers it seems that the weapon the female lead has is gonna be used as a sword and as a gun.

2. Either keep it turn based or use the same real time system as in FF12.

Again from the trailers it seems like it's gonna be a hybrid of turn based-real time leaning more towards real time. Kinda like 12 but even more real time.

3. I would like to see a better class system myself.

If it's not totally abandoned I hope classes will be kinda vague like in FF6 but where party members where greatly balanced in terms of abilities and damage.

4. I would love to see a summons system like in FF12 only without so much suckage like in FF12. The Aespers were cool but ultimately useless in combat.

From the current info that's out there and the trailer, summons will be able to transform into various things (if Shiva turns into a motorcycle I wonder what Alexander would transform into if they decide to put him too). Still no battle usage info but let's hope that they'll do some damage this time.

6. The God of all FF Music: Nobou Uematsu must return and make more music for us. For only he can bring us happiness!

Nobuo is great and most would welcome his contribution in 13 but I'm sure there are other talents out there waiting to be discovered or offered a chance to prove their worth.

I would like the next FF to be multi-platform...wait.

In the next FF, assuming I even bother with it, I would like to be able to actually do a majority of the "hidden" things without being forced to find a guide to even learn of its existence. To use examples from FFXII, which is terrible for that, none of the stupid Zodiac Spear, you can't open certain chests but are never told which ones, bullshit, and none of the bazaar, you don't ever know what you need to get cool stuff, nonsense. There were lots of things to do in FFVI, FFIX, and KH, and guides weren't necessary for any of them.

In other words, I want a game to reward me for being thorough, not for paying an extra 15USD for a strat guide or trolling GameFAQs.

That was VERY annoying. I mean, here I am going out of my way to explore fully all areas, get all the chests and the like and suddenly, well..nearly by the end of the game, I learn in a forum that I was not supposed to open some of the chests in order to get the best weapon. The Zodiac Spear, to me, was like one of those sweepstakes/special event things in Pokemon where they gave out something like the Eon Ticket that you couldn't get by playing normally. The Zodiac Spear was put in the game so people would see it on the license board and be baffled by it and never figure out (well, there is the Henne Mines 1/1000 one), and then SE could have their fun by revealing the secret in a magazine or something. Isn't that what happened and how the truth first reached the light? Or did someone hack the game?

So yeah, call me crazy but I wouldn't mind seeing another thing hidden like that. Just ONE, though. Square went overboard with it in XII, not just the Zodiac Spear. There are other chests early on in the game that don't regenerate, and if you open them you get something cheap like an Antidote or a Knot of Rust, but if you leave them alone and open them with the Diamond Armlet, you get something that's rare and very hard to come by. Like... there's an Iga Blade in Garamsythe Waterway and a Kaiser Sheild in Barheim Passage that you need a Diamond Armlet for and you can screw yourself out of very easily.

I disagree, there's plenty of stuff you can get in chests that you'll never get by stealing, whether you're using Thief's Cuffs or not.

Also, there's a number of things I liked about FFXII that I hope they keep for future titles. Keeping exploration and combat on the same screen was a huge plus, I just want the whole world to be bigger, with more explorable areas, in future FF games.

Thieve's Cuffs makes chests obsolete, imo.

For mainstream recovery items, maybe. But for gil and equipment, definitely not. Nothing you can steal gil from but certain humanoid enemies and I think the rats. And, a lot of equipment can be obtained earlier in the game from chests than from any monster.

Zak
07-31-2008, 06:56 AM
Chests usually require more luck (or maybe the same luck, just more times because it takes longer to three-zone or reload than it takes to look for more enemies and steal), but most equipment, the earlier possible moment in the game to get them, as in, with the story minimally advanced, would be found in chests. Though I guess you'd need a guide to know which chests, but the majority are at least 20% odds. And I suppose a lot of it COULD be stolen or bought eventually, but usually a while later, so they're a great way for a headstart!

But maybe on the first playthrough most wouldn't go after chests.

Ceidwad

I would like cooperative attacks, much like the Carbunkle-reflect + a powerful magic attack on own party to do 4x (like in FFIX) the damage to enemy, but taking it farther like if two summons are brought in at once there is a more devastating attack, Ex. summon Bahamut and Tiamat and get a 6 flairs attack, or something. Ifrit and Shiva to do a fire and ice combo. also when combining 2 complimentary elemental attacks like fire and wind it could be called "wild fire" make things more like team work.

I also hated the Gambits, they practically separated you from the battle and limited player involvement (it was boring)

PS I liked the junctioning system, it was a bit rough but it still kicked ass. there was a problem with the way you leveled up in FFVIII, you could max out your char before heading out on your first real mission.

I would love them to put in a license system. I loved playing the game 1 time with everyone using certain weapons and the next time you've completely mixed it up. It makes it a lot more fun. Also I would love for them to put in real time. Like how they did it in FFXII how your not running around and then all of a sudden your teleported and trying to kill 3 monsters, but your characters are waiting for them to attack you, giving everyone turns to fight. Or at least like Crisis Core how even though the teleport thing still happened there wasn't any turns.

No worries; we all know it's not gonna be anything like that though.

Don't say 'No worries' when you turn a chick off! You do everything in your power to turn her back on, that way lazy pricks like myself don't need to put any effort in ^^

'I hope the next FF has...

the ability to kill Mickey Mouse or a suitable stand in in vicious, purely evil ways... which are also highly entertaining.

I'd like the turn based battle system from I-III to return, V's job system, the fantasy theme, and no guns or high tech world.

Never going to happen though.

Nobuo Uematsu making the music, a new but cool battle system, 300+ hours of gameplay and no online features.

I really hated the Battle System in XII, so something different than that would be nice. I'd also like Nobuo doing the music again. And lastly, some real good character development. I want to be able to connect with characters again...like in FFIX.

Apparently the battle system is supposed to be something along the line of Kingdom Hearts-- only the main character in your party will be directly playable and the others will act more as support.

^^[Didn't read most of the above]^^

I thought final fantasy IX was the best game ever. I would like to see more classical elements. Screw the guns and bring the swords in completely. Guns are way too dull for me and just don't carry the same drama. I prefered the 'medieval fantasy/steampunk' style of final fantasy.

A more traditional leveling system is prefered too, where the character learns abilities as he/she levels up. Job systems are great fun, though I admit I liked changable jobs so that the party's female isn't going to be sitting in the back holding a staff (typical stereotype, I prefer my girls with swords).

The biggest thing I miss from more recent games is RANDOM BATTLES!!! Let's face it, love 'em or hate 'em, you need 'em! They are the true spirit of FF and make leveling up MUCH easier (I found maxing my levels in FF XII to be MUCH slower than in say, FF IX).

The summons of FF XIII seem far too technologically based (the only one I've seen is Shiva, which I'm sure you all remember). The classical style attacks with um... motorcycles, would be nice.

Finally, the most IMPORTANT part of ANY final fantasy game is the storyline. That's why final fantasy IX is my favorite and Final Fantasy XII is not. The new XIII sounds pretty good from the website, but then again, doesn't everything? The storyline is the only thing that makes me play the game again after I beat, otherwise, it will go to the top of the shelf to collect dust, possibly forever (or whatever the lifespan of a game may be).

Well, for me I like customizable characters. So if you get to choose who get's what weapon or what magic like XII, I think that makes a great game.

This right here is the only answer needed.

Amano on the art, Sakaguchi on writing & design. Uematsu on music. You know, like the classic SNES FF. The ORIGINAL TEAM.
