Little known fact: he stars opposite Judy Garland as the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz. It was one of his first parts and at the time he was still driving a milk delivery van. He had to get up at 4 every morning and would sometimes fall asleep on set earning him the affectionate nickname amongst the crew of the Tin Snooze!

Gotta agree with Citizen Kane.

Russell was amazing in it.

His performance as Mad Max in Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome is also terrific. Apparently the producers feared he would be unable to fill the sizable boots of his predecessor as Mad Max, Sylvester Stallone, who refused to sign on for the third film when he was offered the part of Verbal Kint in the Usual Suspects and scheduling conflicted. Little did they know, with Russel cast in the lead role, the film would go on to be the biggest blockbuster smash of all time grossing $1.5 billion to date, and holding the record until 2006 when Spiderman 3 and the Goblet of Fire took even more money.

Gotta agree with Citizen Kane.

Russell was amazing in it.

That was indeed a nuanced performance, but I think my top Russell performance has to be his moving turn as the title role in Mary Poppins.

he was pretty good in Gone With the Wind too.

Even better in Singin' in the Rain.

Not exactly a film, but I really enjoyed Kurt Russell's performances as Martin, Frasier's dad, in Frasier. He perhaps outperformed Kelsey Grammer!

John McCain

I'm going to enjoy his role as the next vice President of the United States under the McCain-Russel ticket.

Barack Obama

Barack Obama
05-27-2008, 01:48 AM
I'm a realist too Gregory and I realistically expect that the American electorate has become tired of the present state of politics and regardless of race, gender, creed or age, they will vote for change. From coast to coast, from sea to shining sea. And even if you don't vote for me Gregory, I will represent you the same as all Americans because I believe in justice and equality and all Americans are equal in this great nation, even the black ones.

Yes. We. Can.

He was good as Apollo Creed in the first two Rocky films and his depiction of Ray Charles in the biopic Ray was mesmerising.

Tony Soprano

I love him as Don Vito Corleone in the original Godfather. A true classic of Italian-American cinema.

With all these presidential candidates derailing the thread, perhaps it is a good time to discuss the great films where Russell has portrayed a president. Personally I think his best performance as president is in Mars Attacks, the speech he makes is hilarious.

Obama, McCain, fuckin' Clinton, I don't give a shit, whoever gets in gotta stop busting my balls. I get 16 hours of shit each day from my families, I don't need the feds raiding my home and making me look like I'm some sort of criminal for all of the neighbours to see.

As for Russell, well, his portrayal of Kennedy in JFK is legendary.

I'm no terrorist Garamond, and I'll tell your another thing young man, the greatest threat to this nation isn't Osama on the outside, it's Obama on the inside.

This is exactly the sort of mudslinging that's going to see me become president, McCain. And I'll tell you another thing, the greatest threat to this country is not terrorism, it's another 4 years of Bush, and if you vote McCain that's exactly what you'll be getting. I know it, the American people know it and come November, you'll know it too McCain!

Obama why are you attracted to Bill Clinton?

Barack Obama
05-28-2008, 10:31 PM
I think you're getting me confused with Hilary, Garamond. I have no problem with someone being gay, but I'm personally heterosexual and the American people can take me on my word for that. Even if I was attracted to men, it would probably be Brad Pitt and not Bill Clinton.

J. Peterman

Kurt Russel's serious roles are good, but i thought it was a nice change of pace to see him play Edna Turnbald in Hairspray. Yes, he put on a fat suit and played a woman, but he played the role well!
