Has anyone here actually successfully stolen the Mythril Sword from Beatrix in Burmecia at the end of Disc 1?

I'm going for a perfect game (minus Excalibur II) and so far have stolen everything, but can't seem to get this thing from her after trying for almost an hour. Sure it's a timed battle, so it's not like you can prolong it... I think I'll skip it since you can buy it in the very next town anyway. But first, two questions:

1. Does anyone know what the odds of it are (with and without Bandit, I have it on of course)?
2. Anyone here done it or know of a cheap trick to do it?

thanks

to get a perfect game you dont need to steal the mythril sword since you can buy one later, its just convenient if you are able to steal it. And i always thought beatrix was a percentage battle not a timed one :). Just keep trying and you will eventually get it :) if not it won't hurt your goal for a perfect game lol.

You have more things to worry about stealing anyway such as a fairy flute from the gigas in the mountain path and the holy lance from ark :).

Hah, I was just about to give up an move on and in the game where I was doing that I got it... how funny.

But still though, even after having gotten it I want to know, what are the odds?

Can't you steal a Mythril Sword from Necron too?

LoL what's the point? Last battle... + Mythril Sword.... = no real significance...

I am not sure, but I might have done it in my last playthrough. Can't help you though, I mostly try to steal from bosses when they start weakening. It raises your chances of stealing. But I don't really follow any specific tactic.

huh? no it doesn't. or at least I think it doesn't, this isn't pokemon lol. best thing to do is always steal everything you can at the start of the battle, or your gonna end up killing it by accident.

I do recall yes there is somewhat some type of determination of the odds of obtaining items. basically if we look at the ability master thief, it says it increases the chance for getting better items so basically if I can remember it goes something like this:

steal item 1 steal item 2 steal item 3 steal item 4 and so on.

item 1 is the hardest to obtain while 2 is the 2nd and 4 is the easiest and most common item to steal. of course you won't be able to steal anything 100% so item 4 or so must be aprox 75% chance while 3 could be 50% and so on. This isn't accurate since I can't find the faq I read it from, but it is logical as master thief increases the chance for better items, so it could be that item 1 can be swapped with item 2 or item one could have an increasement of percentage to the chance of which it can be stolen. (XD if i try to explain more im going to confuse myself).

Basically yes the rarest item from the boss will be the hardest to get. it seems logical that it would be. and if I couldn't satisfy you, you should try and find the formula yourself =p.

I actually read somewhere that the higher your Spirit stat, the higher your chances are to steal an item.

i did on one file after about five resets, i got really lucky and stole it right after the... phoenix down i think, whatever the lame healing item is and was able to steal the last item on the last turn
ive never tried stealing it since though

Isn't there some sort of reward or hidden item you get for getting to the end in a very small amount of time? Is that how you get the sword mentioned earlier, Excalibur II?

Yes but that is irrelevant.

Also the ability Bandit raises the success rate of Steal.

Enemies have the following item slots and respective Steal probabilities.

-Very Rare- 1/256
-Rare- 1/128
-Uncommon- 1/64
-Common- 1/32

'Bandit' raises the chances of both -Very Rare- and -Rare- to 5/128.
'Master Thief' on the other hand, gets rid of the -Common- item, and moves every item above that rank down one.

For example, when versing Ozma, who has Pumice Piece as a -Very Rare- item and Dark Matter as a -Rare- item, equipping 'Master Theif' would drag the Pumice Piece down to a -Rare- item, and the Dark Matter down to an -Uncommon- item. Very VERY useful when paired with Bandit!

P.S. Omaklise is right, Necron has a Mythril Sword as his -Very Rare- item. Fuck knows why, but he does.

WHY does Necron have a Mythril Sword? There is no point in stealing the damn thing at the very end! You might as well just buy a regular "rod" or "dagger" and use it on Trance Kuja!

I don't know but I do know that the Mithril Sword is unable to be bought after a certain point in the game. So maybe you want a perfect save and you missed it from Beatrix and you forgot to buy it...you can steal it u'll have the perfect =D.
