鉄腕バーディー
THE ORIGINAL OVA
SOUNDTRACK COLLECTION

Message originally posted by Orie on 05-13-2008 at 12:18 PM

Hello people!

Re-writing here some stuff. :)
This was my very Nemesis Soundtrack ever. Why? Because it marked me in my childhood, in emotions, memories; You name it.
I love Koh Ohtani soundtracks, but these are far nature my favorite of them all. Everything I like on him, is here; although I have always been very fond of his kind of composition. :)
I hope you all can have a great listening experience has I had in my kid days.

Thank you KusanagiShiro and Mewsie for getting this for me ;)
You will always ROCK to me :);) :p

:smrt: |the tracks "1. Birdy the Mighty (prologue)" and "9. 2Tones in Her Hair" are very different from the songs played in the anime. If you watch it again, like I've watch when I heard this OST, you will see that there is a difference|:-*
--------------------
Many Thanks to KusanagiShiro and Mewsie, for helping me with this.
You are COOL people!!!!

The Update of 2014

Files were updated with 320kbps and with booklet scans, and also included the Drama CDs :)
But I decided to do something that went forgot somehow along the comments in this thread. I decided to rip the missing tracks and the versions not released in the actual soundtrack officially.
The official soundtracks were released with new instruments added, a very different production and effects were used in a lot of tracks. I almost consider the soundtracks more like Arrange Soundtracks
Which lead us to another issue. I heard these soundtracks and I could swear a lot of tracks I never heard them in my life, but I have the VHS of Birdy the Mighty and I have seen countless times (yeah. that is how I love it so much. ^_^). I know all songs from back to front, that much because I did remember some tracks which were not in the soundtrack and others that sounded very odd to me due to the new effects.
I was right!
Birdy the mighty Soundtracks are soundtracks for both the animated OVA and the Drama CDs.
I decided to rip, and collect all tracks of the OVA in 2 "Releases".
[1] Rip and Collecting tracks in order of appearance in due episodes, and divided in 4 folders for each episode.
[2] Rip and Collecting in order of appearance without repeating tracks, and place it as one CD soundtrack, bundled ,as bonus disc, with the music of the CD Cinema.

Oh cool, so you found the OSTs huh!?
I guess you want me to rip the extras/un edited songs eh?
I can do sound rips, but if there is speaking in it, it won't sound that great...
So should I rip the 2 tracks you discussed in this thread? All of the music in the for episodes? What would you like?

Rip all the songs!!! of the four episodes. you cant "erase" or hide the speaking?
Neither way, yes rip it all

Mewsie
05-14-2008, 01:07 AM
It's rather difficult to try to hide the speaking, it requires a lot of editing and often special filters... sometimes if you're lucky... the program will have something called a "noise" filter, with it you can select some of the speaking: therefore dubbing it as "noise" and the filter will then try to soften it all down to the point where it doesn't bother the music... I don't know how well this works as I've never given it a try myself. ^^;

And once again, thank you, my good sir. :D

I have to recommend a Koh Otani soundtrack to you, you know the anime Daphne: In the Brilliant Blue?
He was the composer to that anime, you're able to purchase the first soundtrack for around 2$ on amazon. (Great Deal!!!)

Amazon.com: Daphne in the Brilliant Blue - Original Sound Track Vol 1: Kow Otani (composer): Music (http://www.amazon.com/Daphne-Brilliant-Blue-Original-Sound/dp/B0006SSQUW/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1316366126&sr=1-2)

This is a Skimpy as hell anime, as you can tell by the cover of the soundtrack, but when I go out somewhere, I always pick up this soundtrack!
It's really a beautiful, fun soundtrack! I can't wait to purchase the second disc to it!
I'm going to watch the anime on AnimeNewsNetwork just because he composed the music, after I take a listen to the second disc. :D

Happy composing! ~ Wynn

While I was organizing my Birdy the Mighty files, I remembered that, I never got into rip from video files (with sfx or not) the track called "Birdy the Mighty [prologue]", because it is played differently in the OVA. I downloaded the ova (sine I only have the VHS) and noticed that, there is an unreleased track, and certain tracks have different arranges in the ova. Some don't have the musical effects. "2 tones in her hair" is played when Tsutomu is making his exam, but without the synth arrange in it. I will today go through all of the OVA and rip everything which is different from the official soundtrack.

Sorry for taking time to upload :)

I could say track 19 of the first album. However Im digging the complete soundtrack. Just saw the first ova and i forgot how much loved Ko Otani.
The ova is entertaining has hell and the action top notch

Orie
09-25-2015, 12:41 AM
track 19..."Birdy The mighty Main theme". You know, sharing a bit of story: Back in the end of the 90ts... I had found a website of a fan, I assume, with tons of screenshots which I got them all, and still own those pictures, since that website is no more. The person also had 3 mp3 to download. Both Ending songs and the main theme. You know what? I was damn happy. super happy even if I had no actual soundtrack. This Ova, which I still own in my cute recorded tapes, was very big deal to me back then. Not just in everything, animation, music, characters, and as you say, "action top notch". The most entertaining thing and amazing to me was something not many people understand in animation. I have to point, I was alone for a long time in the fact that I liked japanese animation. hell, I was the only person in my town who actually had recorded japanese cds of my own, while researching and build up my own culture of japanese music, and had hell of fun listening to them. I was freak in all ways people would thing of me... and the fact that I would say, "Yoshiaki Kawajiri did the most incredibly work of camera angles in this ova" people would be "the fuck y'a talking? it's a cartoon, there are no cameras."
You have such incredibly worked up camera angles that make yourself sink into the environment in such a smooth way, that you could feel you are inside the movie. Not only that, you see some epic shit. The very first time birdy appears in episode 1, the scene where the alien opens his eyes in his neck... first moment I saw that my reaction was..... no reaction at all. I did not knew what to say about, what I felt, it was just something that immediately glued me in to see what the hell was this about. That was an epic scene for me. Just look and feel how much fluid the animation goes in that create picture.

This is the one of my favorite camera angle. You can't say no to this. It may be a very quick moment, but fuck. They are coming at you. Even if in detail you see the animation loose a bit of quality, you don't care. That is a great damn ass awesome angle to make you feel part of the story. yeah! It's that Amazing.

Now, many my think I might seem exaggerating with the fact of this being, perhaps, the most important soundtrack of my life. Maybe I am exaggerating, but this soundtrack is very strong related and tied to my childhood in many private reasons. This soundtrack made feel a lot of things I never thought I would, and in a way, it helped define my childhood in a very strong way. It might sound strange how something like this can define a person's childhood, and perhaps, to what it may have done in future events. Bottom line; I might love a ton of composers, as you know already, but this soundtrack was straight into everything I could feel for it.
Want me to pick some of my favorite tracks?
If you go to the complete soundtrack my all time favorite tracks from top 1 to 6:

1 19 ''than u think'' (Album Version)
This is the one. The one track... for life. You know when you watch a movie or show, and there is that cue, that is so damn good, so good, that it plays in your mind over and over and you even see the scene where that cue plays? That's the feeling.
The very first seconds of this track, showing you how much of stressing moment Tsutomu feels into rescue. You feel that, you feel what it feels, with no doubt. That is what makes me so into this song so much. This is my top1 favorite track from the soundtrack. Not a super epic track, but epic enough for what it stands.

2 21 ''usual salvation'' (Album Version)
I was divided between this and the Top1 I chose. They are both my top1, but I feel more for the first. I still have deep feelings and chills with this track. And again, it played in a scene with great camera angles, that every time this song came to my mind I was seeing that scene.

3 37 ''lashing'' (Album Version)
God... this is another that should be in top1 too, but I had to pick it in here. That marvel for me in here, is the sax. And knowing the scene where this plays, it just made such normal thing like a raid into a watery system company, sound epic as hell. Those first 8 seconds.. are memorable has hell, and get stuck in your mind so much.

4 01 ''Birdy the Mighty [prologue]'' (sax-less)
I just wish the sax was no there in the official release. The sax in a way kills off the "tremendous steps" of Birdy and bad-ass she is.
This is great track. It gives you a wonder of something, then going to suspense not knowing what to expect, and then it unfolds marvelously with simple bass, yeah, but the rhythm of that guitar is "her tremendous steps"

5 08 Bachilus (Part 1 & 2)
I am so sad this track was not released. What do I like about it? For horror mood enthusiast as me... it's the horror mood you feel in it. That electronic bpm mixed in it... I wish it was bigger.

6 41 ''Birdy the Mighty'' (Album Version)
Main them saved for last. yeah... its not that I don't like it. I love it. I freaking love the main theme. But liking a main theme as first priority is pretty predictable. I never had a problem with this main theme, until I presented a friend showing him my Birdy the Mighty tape. He did complained about the main theme, and he could get feel it serious because for the mario sunshine sounds you hear in it. I never had noticed it until he pointed it out. Everytime the main theme came he would always loose the focus on the OVA. This is why it is ion my last. As much as I freaking love this awesome main theme, I can understand the issues it might present. Not saying that I will not spend a day in repeat hearing this track over and over again. Already done that. And what a great day it was. :p

And this is why i really like talking to you
There is a passion in your words and experiences, that made this such a good read.
This can be applied to me with the score of Saint Seiya. That was the soundtrack that made love the soundtracks in general when i was 7 years. I even recorded the audio for the music on some tapes ( with latin american audio and all) and everyone thought it was really weird. Soundtracks of Poltergeist, Jurassick Park and the Danny Elfman Batmans made me listen a lot more.
I will see the ovas on this weekend.
After reading this i cant wait.

Oh my god...I had the notion you had seen it already. xD Oh crap. I spoiled....the fun for you. xD
This is one of my favorite OVA directions in a list of a lot I have seen. I put this as Top1 together with Bubblegum Crisis. Bubblegum was my very first anime and love at first sight, being top1 might me giving it too much of importance for what it was for me, even when most people might consider it floppy. Masami Obari directions were indeed floppy, but Kouji Makaino made distract a lot about those issues. Birdy the Mighty , you will see what is so worth about it. I own the original Japanese manga a friend bought me back in 2004, and being the Ova the vision of Yoshiaki Kawajriri, the Ova is much better then the manga and bit more serious and some points of creepiness, and I would wish Kawajiri would have done some more episodes.
The world of soundtracks is something very ungrateful in my country. No one knows who is Danny Elfman or John Williams. I would re-watch movies just because I would want to "head-bang" I would with the orchestral cues. In my country, our culture is so stupid that symphonic music is considered strange and not music. Since store called Fnac appeared in my country, suddenly, I was able to buy some soundtrack scores. I still have very little, but I am damn happy with I have, since it's kinda a rarity seeing any soundtrack on sale, when back in the 90ts there was none.
I did you recorded the music in tapes from saint seiya? What I did, and sadly I lost that tape with bunch of opening and ending themes from french version of Ranma, saber marionette, darkstalkers opening and others. So, what I did to record from TV to tape, was picking the microphone, put it near the TV speaker, and put the tv as loud as I could, and then hit record. :p Sound was bad, a bit since the echo of the living room was also recorded. My granny would take me to school, and that tape would be playing in her car. I still have though the one I recorded from pokemon first 2 seasons.
I don't know what is it with people in my place with their notion of music. Music in games, anime and movie scores are not considered music; but music of someone repeating over and over "umbrella ellla ee" and sexualized disgusting and commercialization of woman image (lady "CACA") is the best music ever done.
My influences in the 90ts not only being japanese, europe was good in most terms of electronic music, so my influence in there is very deep and meaningful. I grew up with electronic music, and in some way that was what helped me define my own musical taste and music analysis, when everything people heard I was like.... "what?"
But yeah. Recording in tapes, was there done that... and still listen them :D
