I'm plannig on playing this game soon, the 360 version... quite frankly I'm desperate to get my hands on it, but first I'd like to hear some of your thoughts on it guys, only negative thing I've heard so far is that it's fairly easy. Let's hear some opinions.

It's fairly easy if you play on the lowest difficulty level. The game is damn hard if you play on the higher difficulty level. As for the rest, if you like single player FPS like HalfLife I think you'll like Bioshock.

Prior to this game, I was bored of FPSs as a genre. When I played that game, my interest for FPS games renewed some and now I play COD4. I think it says a lot about the quality of the game.

It's a great game.

It features an ambitious plot which features heavily into gameplay so it feels less like a run and gunner. Also, the powers you obtain help keep gameplay fresh since you're never stuck with only the basic FPS weapons (handgun, shotgun, machine gun, magnum). I particularly liked that although the game is linear, you can revisit every area to rediscover secret rooms/hidden paths as you gain new powers.

I kinda feel like playing it right now.

Great game. I absolutely hate the FPS genre in general, but the setting and story to this game was really well done and kept me playing for however long it was. Definitely one of my favorite games of the last year.

It's one I enjoy playing many times over. It has great combat and great replay value. The story remains the same however each time over apart from the two endings depending on how you act towards the Little Sisters. (You'll come to realise who/what they are).

The graphics are excellent and the music is very atmospheric. As for the difficulty, I recommend you play first on normal. Even on the hardest setting, I personally still find it relatively easy to what it should be, but then I am pretty experienced with it now -- I know who and what's round the corner.

It's one I won't be selling any time soon though or probably at all.

I am only about two hours in and so far have enjoyed it a great deal. I am pretty dreadful at these sort of games so unlike everybody else finding it to be quite difficult. Also have just read on the wired website that Gore Verbinski has signed up to direct the movie which could be interesting as I quite liked what he did with the Ring. (at least I hope that was him!)

It's possibly one of my favorite games of all time, though I did play it on PC with keyboard and mouse. Although, out of curiosity, I plugged in a 360 controller and tried playing it with that and it was surprisingly playable.

I played the the PC version, but still it' s a great game. It has a classic American setting. It has a great classic soundtrack. It has a decent story, with great characters who are believable. The only thing lacking is the endings.

I heard about the endings being a bit of a let down, but I don't care, there's rarely any FPS with a good one.

I personally thought it was a great game and refreshing from all the other kind of FPS games, but I couldn't play it more than once. So the only thing bad about this game for me was its replay value.

Just two more questions:

How long is the game? and, does it have an autosave feature or you can just save anywhere?

doomjockey
05-11-2008, 07:46 AM
A straight run through probably takes you around 10 hours, and you can save anywhere.

Hunting for secret places/achievements extends the game to around 20.

Glitch
05-11-2008, 08:07 AM
Excellent! 20 hours is more than I could possibly imagine, specially for a FPS, and usually I take my time wandering around searching for stuff.

The game sucked for me after I beat it. All of the skills you unlock can't be used in a new game, so that was pretty fucking stupid. A game like this MUST have a New Game+ feature!

Hynad
05-13-2008, 02:28 AM
IDX Rider: That wouldn't make sense. Your plane still crashes at the beginning of the game, and you're introduced to Rapture.... It would be stupid if you landed there with all the powers.

IDX
05-13-2008, 03:26 AM
I don't see how that would effect the plot. I personally don't like going through a game where it's a bitch to get those kinds of abilities (and constantly upgrading) just to do it all over again. Games that are designed that way tend to suck the fun out of the game for me.

Kind of like making an Xbox Live profile on your 360 after doing a bunch of shit on your offline profile and you can't move data over profiles. Just because of that, I haven't touched some of my 360 games because I simply don't feel like putting in all those hours AGAIN to get it all back.

Ok, I'm going to be purchasing the game soon, as I've only played the demo. However, this is what I gathered from le demo:

As far as strict gameplay goes, Bioshock is just another Star-Wars-esque shooter, with guns, melee weapons, and 'force'-like powers. However, it is the atmosphere and enemies that make the game. The story is pretty good, but again, the setting and atmosphere make the game.

By now I must be near the end, the game is amazing but something I dislike more than anything else is carrying so many weapons around. I don’t know how other FPS gamers feel but for me having such a big arsenal becomes a problem because I always have trouble deciding which weapon I should use, and there’s just way too much ammo around to pick up. There are also too few enemies types, although Big Daddies are cool and security boots make funny noises.

I said common sense would give you the obvious answer to your question.

But you're too eager to jump at everyone's comment, contradict them, and argue everything for the sake of it that you forget to think by yourself.

If you don't see why a year's worth of sell would have benefited the PS3 outing, then you clearly have some "logic" issues.

No shit it would have sold more if it had a PS3 release as well, but what I am asking is what proof is there to say it would have sold more initially than if it were ported later?

Speaking of eager to jump at comments, I think it's painfully obvious you jump at mine every chance you get.

Hynad
05-29-2008, 02:31 AM
You mean you can't realise it by yourself?

The game don't hold the same novelty as it did back then when initially released. Most people interested in it either played it on the 360 or the PC. I'm not saying it won't sell, it will, because it is a good game and there are still some people interested in that kind of game that didn't experience it on the other platforms.

Note: to adress your remark, yes, I'm wasting my time trying to make you realise that the brain you have must be put to use from time to time.

But it is obvious that sales would've been a lot better if it was released on the PS3 as well at launch. Kind of a no-brainer if you will. Most of the ones who would buy it would be the ones who have never played it before. I don't think anyone would buy it again if it just looked better.

I don't think it will look better. PS3 games have shown to have inferior graphics compared to the Xbox360. This is because the PS3 GPU is based off an old Geforce 7000 series card, but the Xbox360 has an GPU exclusively made for the system.

IDX
05-30-2008, 10:02 AM
The capabilities of the PS3 have proven that it can dish out better graphics, but there hasn't been a game out (I think) that has been able to utilize it to it's maximum potential.

Glitch
05-30-2008, 10:42 AM
I think there’s a lot of controversy about which of those two systems can deliver the best graphics, regardless I think Bioshock can be ported (remake, whatever) to the PS3 with the same graphical features as the 360 version. Better looking games such as Turok proved that the PS3 can do that, I haven’t compared both versions but I read they look almost alike, maybe with slightly better effects in this or that console but nothing that noticeable. Now, as far as the controls go, the 360 wins.

execrable gumwrapper
05-30-2008, 11:43 AM
GamePro said MGS4 is the best looking game at the moment and doubts any game will surpass it for a long while.

You also have to realise the reason many ports look like shit is because developers are lazy bastards who don't take enough time to learn how to program for the PS3.

I can never feel comfortable playing a FPS game on the Playstation controller. A lot of my friends are the same way about that. I can play any game using any controller, but I feel most comfortable using a controller with triggers for some odd reason when it comes to FPS games.

errmm.. Bioshock sold great for a new ip(2.3mil sofar i think)
a horrorgame at that without a shit multiplayer attached to it just for the sake of it being labeled on the box

it lacked some polish in the difficulty(too much ammo, vita chambers) and level and charakter design but overall it was a game most worthy of its praise

cant wait for the se/prequel/remake

Spoiler about endings:
I just finished the game and didn’t think the ending was as bad as some reviewers said, not the one where you free the Little Sisters. I mean, you escape Rapture with the girls, they grow up and lead a normal life and that’s it, what else was there supposed to happen, this isn’t an RPG anyway.
I’m going to replay this game later on hard mode to see the other ending and unlock more achievements, I think it’s worth it.

I've gotten that ending too, but I lost interest when I couldn't have all my high-powered plasmids in the next game. Really? Great. That gives me a lot of hope. Because personally, I'd prefer a PS3 over a Xbox360. Nothing against the Xbox. It's just that most of their games I can play on the PC, and the PS3 has Metal Gear 4 and Final Fantasy XIII.

The Wii is a whole different story. The graphics is just an upgrade to the Gamecube's graphics. It's mostly made to take Nintendo exclusives to the next level. Ports of xbox360 and PS3 games will look inferior on the Wii, however.
