I'd say the first two Onimusha games are near the top; all four, except maybe 3 by a little bit, featured awful voice cast from joes probably rounded up by Capcom on the streets, still, Final Fantasy X is definetely on the vanguard.

Dynasty Warriors was priceless during the cut scenes. Not sure weather its the voice actors fault of the script writers.

Star Ocean 3 had some very questionable acting. Particularly amongst the female voices.

I haven't played SO2, but SO2 would have to be pretty bad to 'beat' that.

lenneth
05-09-2008, 04:15 PM
SO2 had worse sound quality, a lot of goofy phrases and mistransliterations, as well as a lot of just obnoxious/annoying voices in general. The acting itself, though, compared to SO3, was better imo. SO3 sounded like bad soap opera actors, or something.

Not sure if that makes sense, not sure if I'm actually properly explaining what i mean ;-;

In the beginning of the game, that one girl in Nel's organization (forgot their name) had an AWFUL voice actress.

edit: maybe like

SO2 is the voice actors doing a good job with a poor script/translation and some got stuck with "annoying" characters.

SO3 is bad voice acting with a script that was written a bit better, or at least less cheesy than SO2 (as far as battle voices, which is all SO2 had, really).

I think I know who you mean from Nel's crew. Was it Farleen? The one with purple hair and the (very) high voice? If so, I agree. Peppita's voice actor was also pretty bad. voice work (WORK, not act) is a curse that plagues over 80% of translated games to english speaking countries.

the game ive played and i consider to have the worst work(and by that i meant actually BAD, THAT YOU ABSOLUTELY HATE) is:

mystic heroes

yes, just one game. and beforesomeone comes and says "you havent played enough then", keep reading.

i have played COUNTLESS games, and i havent been bothered with voice work (and acting) until i played mystic heroes.
not only does the voices not match the characters, but what they say and the way they say it made me play the game in MUTE until i established the games sucked BIG BALLS and traded it for something else.

the only good thing was the videos, highly detailed and awesome.

x-2's voice acting was actually an improvement over x's. at least in x-2, they didn't speak all haltingly or really sped up. to be fair though, ffx's voice actors are top notch. the sound egineers or w/e you call them just took their voice clips and sped them up or slowed them down depending on the situation/factors that existed.

Anyone played Oblivion? The voice acting on that can only be described as 'fucked up'. Like when you talk to a beggar, and their voice suddenly changes from being a sort of broken English cockney accent to a sturdy American one? The VA in the first Resident Evil was quite bad imo...

"I hope this isn't Chris's blood."

Now, as much of a fan of the DW series... I have to admit, DW3 had some terrible VA... Zhen Ji's quote after killing an officer in a snobbish english accent...

"I defeated an Officer."

Same with Samurai Warriors... Oda Nobunaga's voice, along with Sanada Yukimura and Takeda Shingen were awesome. Others like Imagoto Yoshimoto and Toyotomi Hideyoshi were terrible...

Also, any game with VA which had Cam Clarke providing voices.... I really hate his voice. Jade Empire and KotOR he's worked in, only as background characters (Thank the maker), so I still enjoy those games. I just block out characters with his voice.

Unfortunately can't do that with Grandia II, as he's the voice of the main character

That being said, John Cleese was awesome and the perfect choice for the character 'Sir Roderick Ponce von Fontlebottom the Magnificent Bastard' in Jade Empire.

Good VA in GTA VC and SA, and Christopher Walken voiced the FBI Agent in True Crime New York City very well.
