I just beat it, and it was amazing. Now I see why it is so highly placed at this forum.

Yes, it did take me awhile, but i finally got to playin it completely through.

I was only like 10 when i got the game, so i didn't really get into it as much.

I just now ordered FF Anthology, so FFVI, here i come!

I actually thought FF9 died near the end. Storyline-wise, it is never fully explained in detail who this Necron is and where he came from. It just seemed a little rushed and just a thrown in ending. In other words, there didn't seem to be a big picture. The storyline was just confusing for me at the end. I know that Necron is supposed to symbolize Death, the true enemy they've been fighting against all this time (hence "the will to live is stronger than anything else"), but despite the symbolism, I still thought the story was lacking in many areas.

And also gameplay-wise, I really did not like the trances, the slow battle system, and how trance seemed useless at disc 4. Trance was probably the most annoying aspect of the game. Several times has the enemy in a random battle activate one of character's trances just before I kill them. It is hard to predict when they are going to attack because the battle system is just so slow (even in fast mode). Then after the battle, instead of keeping my hard-earned trance, the gauge starts over. Don't get me wrong, I loved the side-quests, how each character had a different fighting role, and everything else. But I just thought trance was very flawed.

Trance is kinda annoying, not perfect by all means but it's actually better than the 'desperation moves' from 6, 7 and 8 in my opinion. I also agree with the slow battles (but the queuing up of the moves in battle is just the same as the other games bar a slightly longer delay)

I have to disagree with the game 'dying' near the end, and the story.

Furthest I got was Nova dragon, then got bored while leveling up on grand dragons.

Heh, I see what you mean. I'm actually a fan of the woman's voice in the "Other World" remake. But for that boss battle, I think it's better for the man's voice to remain.

Final Fantasy IX had quite a good skill customization system, but unfortunately I never had the time to actually finish the game.
