Discuss wether you all think anime is still cool or a mere shadow of its former self.

How does an entire genre do that exactly? Are you thinking of a particular show?

Doom jockeys right - a genre as a whole can't really 'jump the shark'. Theres always going to be stuff that appeals to some but not others

The only really crappy stuff are the shows that are ported over, ripped of all good content and than broadcasted for children at a thouand point lameness modifier... and even worse... the north american anime wannabes like "Totally Spies" and "Martin Mystery". *shudder* I'm glad I don't watch TV or I'd have to bear seeing tidbits of garbage like that more often.

*nitpick*
Anime isn't a genre, it's a medium.

And I'd say no. The thing to keep in mind is that, when most people discover anime, they have a whole treasure trove of great things to check out from the 60s all the way 'till today - from Astro Boy to Full Metal Alchemist; from Mobile Suit Gundam to Rurouni Kenshin. And, for the most part, people lump them all together - all 30-40 years - as the good old days, and then look at the one or two hits in the last couple of years and say "they don't make good ones anymore".

Obviously, when you compare 30-40 years worth of anime to about 5 years worth of modern day anime, it's not a fair comparison. In reality, only a couple of really good shows have ever come out each year, at best, from the 60s and 70s onward.

We watch Rurouni Kenshin, Dragon Ball Z, Mobile Suit Gundam, Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, Guyver, Spirited Away, Akira, Evangelion, and all sorts of others from completely different decades all at once, and then compare them collectively to today's shows like Naruto or Gundam Seed, and it's just not a fair comparison, IMO.

Fail for everyone who didn't vote for both options on the poll.

Love how everyone jumped on "genre" after me, though.

Fail for everyone who didn't vote for both options on the poll.

Fail for Sparko not discussing his own fucking topic.

Fail all around. The only win comes from me closing it.
