Hi shriners, I'm looking for any rock music from games or anime that you consider to, well, rock. I'm particularly interested in instrumental (i.e. only music, no singing) tracks of any sort. What can you come up with?

I'm up for anything from (not so) soft rock to heavy metal (but I'm more inclined for the latter  ).

I'm practically a virgin when it comes to rock soundtracks, so any suggestion is welcome, no matter how mainstream and popular the anime or game the music comes from is.

For a very obscure example of what I like, check out these tracks from GENESHAFT:

"Shaft Drive (TV version)" (http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/4223/9)

"Identification" (http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/4223/16)

"The day believe all things" (http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/4223/8)

And the beautiful "Broken camera" (http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/4223/2)

But please think outside of these styles too. Thanks in advance!

There's plenty of rock-based tracks in Devil May Cry's albums.

Final Fantasy: Crisis Core has some good rock tracks, too, that you might like.

So does Orange Box.

From anime Hell Girl (or Jigoku Shoujo):
Hell Rock (TV ost 1), Hell Boy (TV ost 2), Hell Metal (TV season 2 ost 1), Hell Illustration (TV season 2 ost 2).
Composed by Takanashi Yasuharu.
P.S. His music for Naruto Shippuuden also contains many rock-styled themes.

You could also try the "Lost Child" series if you're still on the prowl for rock-based video game music. Quite a few Falcom soundtracks, particularly those for the Ys series, have some decent power rock tracks as well.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the anime series Bubblegum Crisis. I know for certain the original has an R&R opening, and I'm pretty sure there's a few themes in the series also of that nature(along with BGC Tokyo 2040...not sure about Bubblegum Crash, though).

For video games, Ace Combat Zero has a BEAUTIFUL (spanish) rock and roll tune in "Zero", along with 4's "Comona". If you don't mind lyrics in your music, Sonic R has a number of tunes to choose from(they lean towards R&B as well as R&R, just as a heads-up).

Definitely the Y's series has awesome melodic rock music. A lot of arranged albums even on this site has some good music. Try: Dracula Battle Perfect Selection (http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/647), Dracula: Battle Perfect Selection II (http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/648), and from Ys: try this particular soundtrack: Ys Heaven's Sanctuary Original Sound Track ~ J.D.K. BAND (http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/689)

Allstar Pro-Wrestling II

Auto Modellista

Shadow The Hedgehog (lots of non-rock filler tracks though, but there's some nice tunes)

Advance Wars: Days Of Ruin (I don't know if there's a high quality OST out there, but the songs I have are really lo-fi since it's a direct DS rip... Good music though)

Quake 2 and 3

Red Alert 1 and 2

Unreal Tournament 2003's "Deathmatch 1" track.

Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children also has some kick-ass tracks.

After trying one of your OSTs (Crow`s claw) I want to ask: is Advent children similar to it or not?

While it's not a full rock song, "Pride" from Gundam Seed Destiny has some "rock parts" with a crazy guitar riff and rap.

Oh yeah!!! Some nice grooves in there, but it's exhausting going through the entire OST non-stop.

Also Bloody Roar (the OSTs to part 3 and Extreme especially) have some good stuff on them The tracks are a bit short though (they only loop once)

But generally, the amount of decent rock music in games is limited, except you want your electronica and fusion influences.
