So I've been on these forums for quite some time now... mostly as a silent voice, but my love for this music drives me to speak up. It's quite literally a drug to me (this music) in the best way possible. I think most of you (if not all) understand what I mean.

So I have a request of anyone willing to lend their opinion/expertise on the following request:

What are your absolute favorite, emotionally moving OST's?

Some of mine are most anything by Jeremy Soule (Guild Wars etc). Some anime (ex: Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, etc) and the likes. I'd love to hear back from anyone with suggestions. Thanks

These days I'm really into techno and techno/rock and stuff like that -- try searching for these songs:

Thomas Falke "Revolution On The Dance Floor"
Groove Cutter "My Shooter"
Control One "Just A Little Bit"
Ian Carey "Redlight"
Kevin Weg "Dead Radio"

I don't usually go for techno but these are sort of like a wierd crossover between rock and techno/trance.

Here are also some downloads with some other cool stuff too -- http://www.electricfilebox.com/tracks

these are really moving soundtracks, to me...

American Beauty by Thomas Newman
Byousoku no 5cm by Tenmon
Chrono Cross by Yasunori Mitsuda
Donnie Darko by Mike Andrews
FLCL by The Pillows and Shinkichi Mitsumune
K-PAX by Edward Shearmur
Killer7 by Masafumi Takada and Jun Fukuda
Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 2: The Other Side by Harry Gregson-Williams and Norihiko Hibino (and others)
Metal Gear Solid 3 by Harry Gregson-Williams and Norihiko Hibino (and others)
Shadow Of The Colossus by Ko Otani
Tekkon Kinkreet by Plaid
The Thing by Ennio Morricone
Zone Of The Enders by Akihiro Honda, Maki Kirioka, and Norihiko Hibino (and others)

a lot of soundtracks, but they're all really good.

also, @ OP: Which music do you mean by saying "this music"?

A lot of great OSTs are listed in arthurgolden's VGM Canon (Thread 54768) thread. Xenogears by Yasunori Mitsuda has always been one of my favourites, though you might enjoy Xenogears: CREID which is recorded with live instruments and doesn't force you to get 50+ other songs. The CREID CD is only about 10 or 11 tracks. Also Xenogears Light, a fabulous rearrangement of some Xeno tunes by various artists. The piano driven track "Bonds of Sea and Fire" is especially moving.

All can be found through search of the forums. Oh hell, here (Thread 38852).

EDIT: Seems the link to Xenogears: Light isn't up. =/

Thanks for the plug! We've been working hard on that thread, so hopefully that'll be interesting to check out, Duerre.

As for my absolute favorite OSTs, the ones that still remain compelling/enjoyable/moving from the first song to last (or almost) after all this time:

Chrono Trigger
Donkey Kong Country
Final Fantasy VI
Mega Man 2
Shadow of the Colossus
Suikoden

There are a lot of individual songs that do it for me, too. I've been making mix CDs of video game music for about two years now for a couple friends. But these are the complete OSTs that I love.

Also, if you want to hear something that'll make you laugh your ass off, listen to the Total Distortion OST.
