Does this article make any sense to any of you or could this just be an isolated incident? In all honesty, there are much fewer games I plan to buy for the Wii then the PS3, but that's just me. But I don't look at my Wii as a bad investment. There seems to be some kind of mixed message in this article I can't put my finger on.

There will surely be more games for the wii in months to come, but I guess you can't please everyone.

Get back on topic, or this thread will be closed.

Cool it on the macros, across all the forums, Phirk.

could this just be an isolated incident?

I'd say if it's more prevalent, then we can infer that the Wii audience is more deliberate in deciding what games are worthwhile opposed to others. Content over glamor.

I am of the opinion that any console which is massively popular will have less games per installation than it's less popular rivals. This seems obvious to me, since more dedicated fans are not only more likely to adopt a console by their favourite company, but I would imagine they'd do so earlier. I would also assume they would buy more games given appropriate funds. Let's assume that doesn't change massively from userbase to userbase (simplifying assumption!) You end up with less users buying more games on one platform versus a larger amount of users making a smaller average amount of purchases on the more popular platform - the casual users ought to drag the average down.

So, I really doubt it is anything to worry about, especially if the wii appeals to an even greater extent to the "casual" market. Nintendo are making money back on console sales alone, anything over the top is a bigger bonus in comparison to their competitors. They don't need the sales density.

About this post: my mind is in physics mode. :| My first paragraph was like someting out of a physics textbook...

It's an outcome of the Wii fad, really - a lot of people bought the Wii on the strength of Wii Sports (and particularly Wii Sports Tennis) and there hasn't been anything since which really captures the whole 'motion control' thing to the same extent. I mean, Super Smash Bros. Brawl doesn't even have any motion controls, so I can imagine that the 2.4 million people buying it don't include the bored housewives who are waiting for Wii Fit.

Anyway, it's a good thing for Nintendo that they have been profiting off console sales from day one - if they went the 'lose on hardware, profit on software' route that Microsoft and Sony took, they'd be screwed.

Wii Sports wasn't even that good. How is it that popular?

Kotaku's full of shit.

Seeing as Ninty's been targeting outside the typical "gamer" demographic since, oh, DAY ONE, it's only natural that fewer titles are being purchased. NYT explained as much. NYT's also made a good point about some advertising snafus, such as with Zack and Wiki, which really is a terrific game.

I wouldn't be surprised. People play Wii Sports, they buy a Wii for the novelty, and then don't know what to buy in the way of software.

That being said, my family and I own two Wiis (one I purchased for college, one they purchased because I took mine to college), and have about 8 excellent games split between them.

I only have a few wii games also, because I have credit card debt and im trying to buy a house lol.

I thought Wii sports was fun, but wore off after a while. Medal of Honor heroes 2 is awesome online, and the actualy game is pretty good too, I play it with the Wii zapper. If anyone likes FPS's, thats a excellent one for the Wii. Mario kart comes out in about 40 minutes, here in Denver. That is going to kick ass with the wheel I bought for it, i can't wait to get other racing games for it now. Smash bros is the only other one I own, it is really fun. I agree with one view it should have had motion control but oh well. The Wii is a funy system, with some great titles, and really horrible titles, I can't stand going to a game store or game section at a store, and seeing "Hannah Montana" or some fucking twat kiddy shit. thats my theory/rant.
