Have any of you got tips on how to beat this guy. I'm above the recommended level for this part of the game but i've had my ass handed to me twice. I took just over half his health off before he battered me. btw the elder wyrm is the boss you fight just before you get to the paramina rift.

The strategy I used on my first playthrough was to repeatedly summon Belias. Obviously, this takes a certain amount of Ethers to work, but is very effective. If you don't have those Ethers, then try attacking with fire-based weapons. I think it has a weakness to Fire - Belias' painflare would usually do around 1000 damage a hit for me. Also, keep Larsa alive and protected adequately with magicks. If he goes down, you lose your best source of healing and it can be quite awkward to recover from that.

You might need a lot of items to win the battle as it will constantly use Sporefall: also, to avoid this, spread your characters out as much as possible so some of them will avoid the status effects caused by it.

I'm not sure if you have access to Esuna yet, but if you do, buy it and use it regularly to counter Sporefall.

Elder's main challenge is in the status ailments I find, so if you can conquer these, you should be OK.

Make sure you have lots of Remedies (or Esuna, if it's avaliable), keep your HP high, keep Larsa alive, and spread out your team (use long-range weapons) to stop them all getting hit. A strong reserve team may be useful for reviving should your main team die, or for pulling off some last-minute quickening chains. If you keep this in mind, and keep wearing away at his health, he should fall eventually.

Note: If you really can't beat him, you can dodge around, and return at a later date. Head to the southern part of Golmore where Hellhounds and Coeurls appear, and flee past them until you reach the Feywood. Then, flee past the enemies in here and head east - you should reach the Paramina Rift eventually. (You might want to check a map, I'm not quite sure of my directions). However, I don't recommend this - it involves fleeing past some seriously high level monsters, and chances are you'll be killed on the way.
