Im dying for a good rpg game for ps2. I played ff12 - one of the worst ff games Ive played IMO. Besides that, Ive played suikoden tactics - also crap IMO. Xenosaga III also played - couldnt get into it.

What Im looking for is a good rpg game, similar to the old ffs, seiken denestus, chrono trigger , you know the good stuff from SNES. Do they still make games like that anymore? Does anyone know of any good games like this? Please recommend me some or direct me to a thread that can help me.

Thank you

If you're going to call the series by its original Japanese name, at least spell the fucker right.

Also, TempleKnight. I hear good stories of Baldurs gate. But I have never played one.

Baldurs Gate II was great IMO but you would have to be more into PC rpg's for that one, try maybe one of the Shin Megami Tensei games or one of my personal favourites Ys Ark of Napishtim.

Hated that game's music...

Ha!!

It was a bit over the top, especially the battle music. Was a fun game nonetheless

What got to me most was the over-world music... It just bore into my brain and I couldn't stand it!

Since I'm playing it right now, Okami. More of an adventure game (think Legend of Zelda) than an RPG, but I am fucking impressed so far.

Okami is a great title, except for the annoying noise that that faerie makes when it speaks =\

Yeah, I'm not a fan of annoyingly cute diminutive sidekicks.

Still, this kicks ass.

Here are some of my fav's

Xenosaga I
Kingdom Hearts II (really don't need to play KHI)
Dragon Quest VIII
Star Ocean Till the End of Time

Okay I agree with you on all of these except KH2. The original Kingdom Hearts was so much better. KH2 was more like sitting through a 30 hour cutscene. Fine for those of you that way inclined.

You must have been playing the wrong game. KHII had ever more gameplay, story, replay value, and almost everything else than the first game. The beginning was a long cutscene because it basically told you everything that happened in the first game. Which is why you don't need to play the first game to play the second game. Still, to each his/her own.

Since I didn't really recommend an actual RPG earlier...

I had a great time with Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. If you've never played a Shin Megami, it's different in that it focuses on recruiting demons into your party through conversation: extortion, intimidation, bribery, seduction, kidnapping, etc. There are hundreds to choose from so your interactions range from frighteningly brief to hilariously absurd (one demon joined me on account of my Lilith demon's "great ass"). Since you can change the composition of your party at any time, the game tends to revolve around your mute protagonist as he battles to rewrite the world according to his or others ideals.

Plus it features honest-to-god Dante from Devil May Cry.

It's so random, it cannot suck.

Y'know... the good ones?

It's just a case of Harkus not knowing the difference between an RPG and a brainless hack & slash. He's undoubtedly talking about the Dark Alliance games. Not that it matters anyway though, since the term "RPG" has no definition now thanks to the ignorant Japs warping its meaning so badly that Pong can count as one and ignorant westerners accepting the misnomer.

FFX is the only really good PS2 rpg that I can think of that springs to mind (BTW, I also thought FFXII was one of the worst FF games in a long time.) Dragon Quest VIII is pretty good and maybe Star Ocean 3 if you're really looking for an RPG, but they are leagues behind FFX...

If you can still stand playing PS1 games... my two favorite are FF8 and Chrono Cross. Really, if you have played Chrono Trigger but not Chrono Cross, you haven't experienced life yet and should buy it.

I thought that the Dark alliance games were more than just hack and slash and were more of an rpg than they were any other genre.
