I fought him in the beginning of the game. All I did was draw cast Demi and have two characters attack physically (and use limit breaks), while the other character heals. He wasn't that hard.

Yeah, DubJ has a good plan. Keep having one in your party draw-cast Demi, one doing attacks, and one to heal.

For me, tho, I had two in my party draw-cast demi and one to heal. When the demi starts doing little damage (i.e. around 200~300 damage), it's time to switch to physical attacks.

I don't know if you guys read the OP but he can't draw Demi.

So, alternatives, please?

All he does is one physical attack and demi, right?
If memory serves, you just cast darkness on him, and hit him with your Limit Breaks.

If you can't draw Demi, it's probably because your magic stat's too low. Junction some abilities to raise it, then you should be able to build up a good stock. Selphie has the highest magic stat of the three (I assume you're doing it at the earliest available point in the game) so Junction Quezacotl or Siren to her and your strongest spell to her magic stat.

a couple of years ago (when i was playing ff8 on psx) I found that you can easly defeat diablos by...healing him because he's undead.

I know the OP's beaten him already, but for curiousity's sake, can't you just Blind him? All he can do then is gravity magic, which can't kill you. At that point, you can rape him in every oriface with your Limit Breaks, yeah?

FF1WithAllThieves

Really, if you just mod abyss worm cards into windmills and junction 100 tornados to Squall's attack stat, you won't have very much trouble anyway.

You can also buy a bunch of tents and use L mag rf to turn them into Curagas, which are really good for HP.

My memory's a bit foggy, but that would take quite a while to do; Blind plus Limit Breaks can work as soon as you get the Lamp, right?

DubJ

Yes, you probably can get Blind spells from the Training Center. CC's method is much quicker.

1 Abyss Worm card = 20 tornados
And Abyss Worms are easy to find in Balamb. If you want to make it easier on yourself, just go to the cardqueen and play her in a game. If she plays using the "ALL" trading rule, beat her and then play someone at the garden. If their trading rule doesn't say "ALL" after the music has started, then decline and rechallenge until they do. Eventually they will! And before you know it, everyone in Balamb Garden will be using the ALL rule.

Tents are quick to get...it's just harder to buy before you get Recov Med-RF. (Megapotion/Tent Trick)

That's not necessarily just to defeat Diablos the quickest. It can definitely serve as a long-term plan to get a lot of good magic. I'm pretty sure Tornado is better than Regen, Life (not full-life), and Curaga when it comes to HP-J.

FF1WithAllThieves

What DOES take a while is getting the abilities to turn Abyss Worm into those tornados, because you need both Card Mod and T mag rf, both of which are learned by Quezacoatl. It is really worth it, though, because it makes you incredibly powerful.

Also, I would recommend junctioning Tornado to Str rather than HP, because Curagas are so easy to get.

Noobinabox

Yea, that's what I would recommend too, if you don't have any other good magic.

If you can card a few T-Rexaurs (or win a few card battles), then you can mod some Quake from them. Quake can go to Str-J, Tornado can go to HP-J, and Curaga can go to Spr-J (until you get Reflect).

However, I think you'd have to get Diablos before you could get the Quake. (Time-Mag RF is so useful)

Curaga is a nice HP-J/Spr-J spell in the early game, but, as the game progresses, Curaga becomes a useless junctioning spell when there is Regen and Reflect (Disc 2).

I use the blind him then use limit breaks method. It works just fine. I was really surprised when Diablos actually healed me at one stage. Has this happend to anyone else?

Noobinabox

I believe if you do enough damage to him, he will heal you.

This works consistently if you double a character and use double demi.

He then casts curaga on your character (I dunno if its random or if it's the character that did the damage).

Many Times. Diablos will cast Curaga to the character that cast Demi on him. And that happens always.

Funny though, I never tried (or tried and didn't work) to use Blind on him. Maybe I'll try it next time I play. I think that Sleep works too and has more chances from Blind. Anyway I have a slightly different way (limit breaks included of course as well as low level characters) cause I want to have him as soon as possible because of the Mug ability.

The first time I fought him I had a really hard time.

I'm on my second playthrough and I killed him in less than a minute.

Somebody above mentioned abyss worm-->windmill-->tornado. This will make a jaw-gaping difference in damage if you junction it to strength. Buy 10 tents, refine them into curaga, and junction that to HP. Diablos is weak to wind, so get 100 aero (coral fins) and junction that to your elemental attack.

Before you activate the magical lamp, either junction 100 blind to your status attack or have ~10 ish on each character to be safe. Cast blind on him with everyone, and once it hits his physical attacks are null. Let him gravity you down to critical HP and limit break him to death. Especially with a well-prepared squall, the fight could be over really quickly.

Noobinabox

My man...that's a good strategy.

Before I got Reflect (for Spr) I liked to junction the Curaga to Spr and the Tornado to HP. I think tornado gives the second-highest HP boost. Correct me if I'm wrong.
