I was thinking about doing a speed run of Final Fantasy IX to try to get the Excalibur 2 since I will have a lot of free time over a school break I'm having soon. But, I've never really done a speed run or low level run or any restrictions while playing through the game before.

So does anyone have any suggestions. I need to get to draguerro in what was it, like 16 or 18 hours or something like that?

I guess I'm not really sure how to approach this but since this is my favorite game I decided I should go for it.

I thought it was Excalibur 2 that was acquired if you made it to Daguerro at a certain time. =/

Oh, sorry. You are right. I got a little bit mixed up there for some reason. I've changed everything now but I meant Excalibur 2.

16-18 hours is not going to do the trick. You need to get there within 10 hours, I think.

This will probably help you: http://youtube.com/view_play_list?p=7C21A6F5C05D3F2D

Oh, ok. I was a bit confused myself there for a second.
I believe the game has to be finished by 10 hours or 12 hours the latest. All I know is that you should keep battles short, summon animations short, and skip through dialouge as often as possible. I would think the only things that could run at full are the fmv's in the game.

I never done this before, so my word is probably no good.

I tried it. It sucks. It's a waste of time. Don't bother with it unless you are so unbearably bored that you're desperate for something to do, or unless you're insisstant on getting Steiner the "Shock" ability.

It's 12 hours I think. I went as fast as I could before and it took about that time to get Eiko lol.

You need to get to Memoria and defeat Lich in less than twelve hours. Talk to the pillar on the right side. I haven't tried it, but it requires a lot of saving and scouting locations in advance, and then restart and get what you need... also requires a lot of running and reseting.

Hmm. this definately seems harder then I thought it would be. but Thank you DubJ for the videos. Those will definately help be a guide to how this should be done.

If I want to get to lich in time I will probably be skipping all my unneccesary battles. And do every battle as fast as possible, planning out the best way to do everything.

But still I will try very hard and hope Iake it.

If you think you may not be able to get Excalibur 2 in time, there is an experimental way. Once you get the Blue Narcassis (its the boat =D) immediately start to complete your chocograph. Once you've completed the chocograph side quest or have received a Ribbon from a chocograph, you have triggered a glitch, skipping Oelivert, Kuja's Palace and Mount Gulug parts of disc 3.

Just an idea =D it might take longer though depending on your luck, and theres a chance of something going wrong since its a glitch =D. But those visual guides on youtube show you how to get Excalibur 2 correctly and normally, even showing the required time finish at each interval.

Anyway... good luck to you =)

It's 12 hours, I've tried this and failed miserably, one way of getting through the fmv's is to pop open the top of the system and close it again and it'll skip the fmv...that will help you save some time. Good luck and I hope you do better than what I could manage. Oh theres another trick...this one I did and did it successfully...if you pass the 12 hour mark just keep the clock rolling until it resets after 99 hours...you don't have to really play, just let it sit there for a few days! its what I did ;)

I don't think that second method really works...

Just ignore this post, seems like you can't delete your own here any more, I replied to completely the wrong thing :p

Although yes, letting the clock run over 100 hours doesn't work :p

I don't know if you got mixed up by the title, but Shock is taught by the Ragnarok, which you get with one of those pepper things on a chocobo, I think. The only point to getting Excalibur II is that Steiner does an excessively powerful physical attack; if you put enough effort into the game to get it, you might as well have spent the game mastering Thievery, Frog Drop, and Dragon Crest, which all can do 9999 damage through any defense for a small amount of MP.

Yeah, I don't consider Excalibur II to be worth it at all.

Skipping the FMV's definately seems necessary. I tried to print out a list for myself which someone made. It pretty much tells you how much time you should be at each part in the game. I am doing it so I never go over those times but if I have trouble somewhere and in the end get a little over 12 hours I'll try this. even if it doesn't work as Hawkeye_1138 and meltigemini say. it's worth a try. If you say you did it maybe i can too.

For popping up the top of the system to skip the FMV's works on the original playstation...weather or not it works on the ps2 I couldn't say.

As for the running over 100 hours I'm sorry there I was a bit confused, I was thinking about getting the master synth down in the underwater area in memoria to forge save the queen...that does work because that I have done, weather it works for the excalibur II I don't know it's the only thing in the game I think I didn't get.

Well that's all right about not having exceeding 99 hours work. I guess it wouldn't be a challenge if they made it like that.

Yeah, but I do think the challenge to get it is pretty stupid. The only reason at all that you'd need it is if you're an excessive perfectionist, and getting it makes it impossible to be an excessive perfectionist.

Hi Trance Moogle,

I got Excalibur II some years ago, when I had much time (still have but I prefer to spend it more wisely). It will take you some great amount of willpower, this may be good for the real life but the reward of getting Excalibur II is not very impelling once you get it. You will miss some other stuff along the way; there will be not so much of a comfortable experience. A WHOLE LOT of restarting the game (if you for example got into battles or made a mistake). Anyway, there is a bit of pride after the accomplishment nevertheless. ^__^

I missed the time with five minuets first (you have no idea how that felt) but I started again from some place in Memoria and got it though with a minute from failure. Under 12:00 hours.

You will need a guide, or you will have no chance what so ever. Even with guide its difficult. You need to stop the disc in the movie sequences and stay away from battles as mentioned. It will be real hard and frustrating for the impatience.

I love this game and I am pretty much as the people describing the one going thought this. Except for retarded and all the pessimistic stuff ;)

I will also point out the reason why I did get Excalibur II; it was the urge of life seeking fuller fulfilment that worked through me, merely. Hehe. I nowadays prefer the fulfilment in real life.
