It's been a while since I played this but does anyone know if this world has a name which might not have been mentioned in the game but confirmed by Square? I noticed almost every other FF world has a name:

FFXII/Tactics - Ivalice
FFX - Spira
FFIX - Gaia
FFVII - "The Planet" (it can pass for a name alright, it's always capitalized)

So does this have a name?

I can remember someone referring to it as "Earth" in the Lunar Base.

I don't think this planet needs a name. Actually I don't think any of them really need a name at all. FFVIII was a brilliant title in it's own right and I feel like I have lived there at some point in my life.

This is per wikipedia

Most of Final Fantasy VIII is set on an unnamed fantasy world with one moon. The planet comprises five major landmasses...

Well, I'm actually in the process of replaying FF7 now, so I'll look out for it in case it's true.

You mean to say that just so happening to be choosing a title for an 8th game to follow 7 games with the same title and putting a number after it, was brilliance? Okay...

Well, not like another title would have been better.

Yes Final Fantasy is a good title, but it throws off anyone who is actually expecting there to be a "final" fantasy

According to the game script by shotgunnova on gamefaqs, on Disc 2, in Balamb Town,

Zell: "Ma, you're safe!"

Ma Dincht: "Zell! How on earth did you get into town!?"

So it's Earth, right?

haha. Maybe. But that's a good question. Its a world with bad haircuts anyway. But i would like to find out the actual name.

Seriously, just reading this thread, I have an inkling to start a new FVIII game. But I dont wanna leave RE4. hmmm decision, decisions..

It's referred to "The Planet" in the game.
The Planets name is changed to Gaia on some AC poster, apparantly.

Read the history/terminology/tutorial or whatever the hell it is in the game menu. It mentions Gaia somewhere, I believe. I know it's Gaia.

"...The world was created 12 times and the 13th it is now being created..."

It isn`t a correct quote, but it`s the same universe, so stop questioning stupid things about planet names and stuff.

so they can flirt with turtles (I'm sorry that was stupid) well I'm pretty sure that FFVII was called gaia like in the menus or whatever but I might be wrong after not playing it for so long it blends together with the spin-offs sometimes

In any case, this "Earth" is pretty small if you can fly across it in less than 20 seconds.
