is GF alexander is a must-have GF?

I think for its abilities, but it's not a must have GF you can still go on.

GF Alexander is a highly prized GF, because you absolutely must have it in order to acquire Doomtrain, because you need one of its abilities (Med Level Up, I believe, offhand) in order to acquire the Remedy+ item for Doomtrain.

Thanks, man. I knew he had an ability you had to use. I just forgot which one it was(haven't played FFVIII in years). But wasn't there another GF that can do that, too? But story wise he's not needed, right?

I don't recall there being any GF other than Alexander with that ability. I seem to recall very clearly that if you don't obtain Alexander, you absolutely, 100% out of luck when it comes to Doomtrain.

Not sure what you mean by "story wise." I seem to recall that "story wise," very few GFs are needed, and in fact, Quezacotl, Shiva and Ifrit may be the only ones.

GFs are not the be all and end all. Sure they are nice to have as back up, but everyone knows that it is far easier to beat the game with the Attack and Limit Break commands.

Drawing it from Edea is the only way that I am familiar with acquiring this GF, but trust me, don't stress too much about it. Get it when you play the game the second time round :)

Yeah i remember now, thanks Agent. But yeah thats what i meant about story wise, Alexander is not really needed to complete the game.

Ngrplz: you can still get the GF in Ultamecia's Castle, like i stated above i forgot which boss though.

You can draw Alexander from Catoblepas in Ultimecia's Castle. However obviously, this isn't possible until disk 4, by which time no other places are accessible on the world map, due to compression.

I can't say you have a choice but to go without Doomtrain this time round, or use some crazy cheat disk [if you can live with the morality! ;(]

Actually, as far as I know, as long as he still gets Alexander, he should be all right.

Yeah but does this guy have the ring from Tears' Point?

No clue. Does it matter? Not all areas other than Ultimecia's Castle are sealed off on Disc 4. The Deep Sea Research Center isn't, and I don't think Tear's Point is either.

P.S.: Love the new avatar. Pingu, right? Don't really care for the show, but penguins are still cool.

Ahh, see I thought Tears' Point was sealed off!

Also, thanks. It's Pingu yeah. I like the idea of the show, but more importantly, I love Penguins and they are one of, if not my favourite animal.

Draw from Edea near the end of disc 2

Is it wrong to ask of people that they actually read through the topic before posting... is it just me...?

He/She's new here. Perhaps they should learn the rules first.

I don't give people a free pass for being new for something like that. Not even reading the first post, in which the thread starter clearly stated that they forgot to draw it from Edea. So, gee yeah, "draw from Edea" -- that's really helpful advice...

If I've heard correctly from other guides, the solomon ring disappears after the lunar cry. However, I've always gotten it beforehand, so I wouldn't know.
