Hey I wasn't sure where else to put this, but anyway... I've been playing piano for 8 years and have a rep of about 200 FF tracks but have never actually recorded anything or put anything online until now.

So anyway... yeah, simply rate my "The Extreme" (not sure if these threads are allowed) because I'm thinking of making a site of my FF piano solos and take requests... is that allowed here?

I know there's a lot of fuzz in the background because I had the clavinova at the loudest volume but I'm gonna re-record this one anyway, but since this is my first time and a few people I sent it to liked it, just wanted to see what people think... so here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/012d5a/

Also thanks to Dant_e for uploading it for me, I was having a bit of trouble with that. Enjoy!

Ok, here are my requests. If any of them are too hard to play don't worry about it.

Final Fantasy VI:

- Awakening
- The Phantom Forest
- Mystery Train
- Kids Run Through the City
- Metamorphasis
- Slam Shuffle
- Mog - (or any other Moogle song from any FF)
- Another World of Beasts
- The Fierce Battle (definitely a crazy piano solo song)
- Dark World (boring -I know. But I love this song)

Final Fantasy VII:

- Anxious Heart
- Flowers Blooming in the Church
- Oppressed People (I definitely wanna hear your take on this song)
- Crazy Motorcycle
- Holding My Thoughts in My Heart
- Ahead On Our Way (I wasn't too thrilled with Shiro Hamaguchi's and Seiji Honda's arrangement of this song on the FFVII Piano Collections)
- On That Day, 5 Years Ago
- Chasing the Black-Caped Man
- J-E-N-O-V-A
- Cait Sith's Theme
- Those Chosen By the Planet
- Wutai
- Tango of Tears
- You Hear the Cry of the Planet
- Buried in the Snow
- Reunion (another one I'm anxious to hear from you)
- Parochial Town
- Off the Edge of Despair
- The Countdown Begins (another crazy piano solo song...I think)
- The Mako Cannon is Fired ~ ShinRa explodes
- The Birth of a God
- World Crisis (long and kind of slow but it's my favorite ending theme out of all the other ones)

I know this isn't one of your many requests, but I did it for someone on another board I go to:

http://www.filefactory.com/mupc/c75e2d/ - Terra's Theme. I'll get to yours soon. They actually happen to be almost EVERY FF7 track but the one's I've worked on. But I'll do them soon, shouldn't be hard at all.

Wow man that was so greeeeeeat!

Terra's/Tina's theme is actually one of my favourites and you performed it so well! And the Extreme too, was a delightful surprise. I'd like to hear you try your hand at some FFXI tunes. Fix the ones the Star Onions ruined for me >.>

Kazham, Rolanberry Fields, and Selbina

And if you're really up for a challenge, Madness from the Avatar Tuner/Digital Devil Saga OST. That's the sickest track ever.

"The Extreme" is very well played. it was also nice to it in a piano form. The only negative thing i would say is the recording quality. Sounds like it's clipping when you hit the louder dynamics. and it's picking up a good amount of background noise. how exactly do you record?

Haha, what a coincidence. I was gonna request "Terra's Theme" but back in the day I listened to it so much that I wore it out. Still a good song though and your rendition of it was beautiful. There weren't any errors in it and I think you have a good sense of time frames. Meaning you know how to keep the beat steady. Very nice!

My HP has a mic in it, I put it on top of the piano and use audacity to record. But "The Extreme" I had at a louder volume than most of the others because that's what I thought I'd need, I'm gonna redo it.

Ah, I gotcha. If your piano/keyboard has RCA/phono or 1/4 inch outputs on it, I would suggest buying a phono to 1/8 inch (plugs into mic port of soundcard) cord or a dual 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch cord and using it. I'm sure you'd get a much richer sound.

Here's what they look like...

Dual RCA to 1/8 inch Cord:

Dual 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch Cord:

EDIT: Obviously it also matters if your piano is digital or not of course. =0

A clavinova IS digital. If I'm not mistaken, your clavi is a Yamaha, right?

Yeah, that would be it.

BTW, I just did One Winged Angel as a request from another board (lost the link though but I'll post it when I get home)

In the meantime, I'll definitely do some of the ones you guys requested, but I think I should make a list of the ones I already know (which is a LOT). Don't get me wrong, I love learning new ones, just to get an idea of which can be expected fast.

Alright guys here's One Winged Angel (the other board I go to requested it). http://www.filefactory.com/file/d94514/

So feel free to request stuff from this paragraph as well before I make a list.

Hey, someone's been busy. That's a nice little repertoire of songs you got right there. I wonder if you've heard the SaGa Frontier 2 OST or it's piano collection. LOTs of great songs there. Hamauzu is a force. =]

If I had to pick, I'd go with Besaid or Dance With the Balamb Fish. Thanks!

I bolded my requests in your original list. The ones in red are my requests that I'm dying to hear from you. I agree with a lot of your side notes. I think we may have the same favorite songs on the the FFVIII OST. I still haven't gotten around to finishing my list and it may be awhile until then but I'll be content with the ones I bolded in your list.

I would like to hear you KH arrangements as well. I'm a fan of the whole OST so any song you know I will request. And when you say that you know songs from the .hack//series, do you mean the first four games or the new G.U. series songs? If you meant the first four games can I request the Mac Anu server song. It's the first server and I think it's called the "Water Capital"?

Also, when you mentioned "Gex" does that include "Gex: Enter the Gecko" too? If so, I would like to request any songs from that game that you know.

From .hack I mentioned Harald's Theme, which is the thing played during Epitaph pieces. I'm a big fan of both the original .hack and GU OSTs, and that list may increase soon.

As for Gex, it's actually mostly Gex Enter the Gecko and Gex 3 Deep Cover Gecko, nothing from the first. But more from Gex 3 than ETG.

I'll make a KH list of what I have, though it's pretty small right now, probably only about 10 tracks.

But anyway I'll work on your red ones. It's hard keeping the requests balanced between this and another board. I actually have "Vivi's Theme" next in line from there, but you'll be next.

Oh, and as far as KH goes, without looking at the track list I'll try to remember so I may miss a few:

Captain Hook's Pirate Ship
A Very Small Wish
Waltz of the Diamond
Dance of the Darling
This is Halloween (also the actual song)
Under the Sea (again, the song)
Welcome to Wonderland
Space Paranoids (augmented chords and scales FTW)
Winnie the Pooh

This is kind of a side project for now and he's only using this thread to get some feedback on his playing and arrangement. Obviously he doesn't have any recording hardware, beside his mic, as of now so it would be more appreciated to hear feedback on the music rather than the sound quality. I don't mean to put words in his mouth but this is kind of what I summarized from his first post.

Anyway, "Truth" was beautifully played. Your best yet. So far my favorites (from you) are "The Extreme", "The Castle", "Truth", and "Vivi's Theme". The only complaints I have is that "Vivi's Theme" and "Truth" are too short. They sound great but end to soon! (no offense of course)

My all time favorite FF theme is Tina, and the piano is my favorite instrument. So if you could master it (play it flawless), and record it in HQ, I would appreciate.

Because even if your version is a little bit flawed (there is a timing oddity going on in the main melody) I still like it a lot.

Keep up the good work.

Zak

Thanks... yeah, I really need to get better recording hardware if I'm planning on making this anything beyond a personal project.

The thing is, Terra/Tina I actually did and learned only about a week ago as someone requested it before I made that list and it wasn't on there. Also gonna redo The Extreme since it came out in the worst quality being the first one and all and I figured out a way to improve it a little since then (not perfect quality but better compared to the first one).

Can't you hook your Yamaha directly to your computer? I'm sure there is a cable not too expensive that you could buy to get it done. And I'm not worried about your keaboard missing the actual output. Unless it's over 20 years old.

Zak
04-16-2008, 04:46 PM
It's actually a clavinova not really a keyboard.. the one in the link is most like mine (no screen, just a few buttons on each side) but it's possible, the computer may very well connect to it. I had it for four years but the only output I really noticed was for headphones, but there might be something in the back that the computer can connect to, definitely an idea.

I've also thought about recording on the actual 30-some year old grand piano in the basement. It could use some tuning but believe it or not I found certain things do sound better on there because it sounds more genuine than digital.

Who's mocking if I'm comparing him to someone he admittedly aspires to be? Besides, didn't I already leave a compliment?

And you're right, you are getting too emotional.

Zak,

What model is your Clavinova? And if it has RCA/phono (red/white) or 1/4 inch outputs then yes you can easily plug it into your computer...Instead of plugging your microphone into where it is currently, plug the appropriate cord into where your microphone is currently (RCA to 1/8 inch or dual 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch cords)..It's easier than you think. It's just a matter of seeing if your Clavinova has RCA or 1/4 inch outputs and buying the right cords.

On my YDP-223, the appropriate outputs were below the digital piano. I'd imagine they would also be below the piano for your Clavinova.

If you happen to find the outputs on your Clavinova...

Here's what they look like...

I think I've figured out how to plug it in. More coming soon.

Let's take a wait-and-see approach.

I actually find the fact that the most known "unofficial" piano arranger has a whole costume gimmick to be somewhat of a disgrace, haha.

Well, the costume is a little silly. I don't know if "disgrace" is the right word.

In response to the defense of him, I agree that the guy has a huge heart and what he's doing is admirable. No doubt about that. He is someone to look up to for his charity and his sincerity. He seems like a great guy.

I'd just aim higher for technical musical ability. I think he's competent, which isn't a diss. Competence is, you know, all he needs for what he does. And he's had some success because of that.

But in terms of musical ability, eh. That's my opinion. I've listened to some of his stuff and wasn't especially interested. I liked where his heart was; I didn't like the music. But three cheers for a good human being.

Nice! What song is next?

BTW, "The Castle" was well played. This one seems like a tough one to pull off. Good good stuff.

Also Dant_e, it's by no means a huge "ambition" like you make it out to be, it's just a hobby and nothing more. Not to sound like an dick or anything but you should probably should be letting me speak for myself and I'm sure everyone else here thinks so too. So leave everyone else alone, because you're kinda making an ass of yourself AND of me. Not to say I don't like your feedback, but seriously, have some common sense, kid.

Also I'm sure most people know this but for those who have trouble grasping humor, my title isn't to be taken literally.

Anyway yeah thanks guys I was just away for two days and I have a great deal of schoolwork but expect something this weekend. I'll answer the questions tomorrow and look up the model but I think the one I linked to is the closest one I could find under images.

I haven't recorded anything in over a week cause I've been busy, but here's Hopeless Desire. http://www.filefactory.com/file/66fbae/

Still haven't tried plugging my computer directly in, so the quality's the same, but oh well... hope I get around to it soon!

My mistake. I had a feeling I was going overboard with the comments anyway. I'm sorry.

Anyway, "Hopeless Desire" sounds great! It keeps the same atmosphere as the original but then there's also a few chords you hit that change the mood of the song -just a tiny bit but to no inconvenience. Let's see, around 0:49-0:53 you hit a deeper note or chord which makes the song sound more like a 'somber'y-epic scene from a cutscene rather than background music for those ruins. Around 1:11-1:15 you also did the same thing and then on the second time around as well. I like it though. A little variation to the original (and all other songs too) is always refreshing to hear.

Once again, I can't wait to hear your next piece. Thank you for the music you have played for us so far!

Thanks, and now I'm done with finals I can finally continue. I think my next task will be to record "Seeking Power" from FFXII, or figure out how to hook the laptop to the Yamaha to improve the average quality and then do that or redo "The Extreme". Watch this space.

Nah, to hell with The Extreme, lol. I want to hear your version of "Seeking Power", one of my favorite theme from FF XII!

Well, alright Hynad, looks like you got your wish, haven't gotten around to fixing the quality yet but here's Seeking Power. Hopefully you guys won't be too disappointed... I reccomend listening to both loops all the way through since I found the second half to have turned out way better, in case the first part disappoints you.

Well, I haven't heard this song before, and it'll still be awhile until I do, but it sounds awesome! It felt like you were playing from the heart (I hope that didn't sound gay)! Maybe that's Sakimoto's style... Anyway, it sounded really nice. *Applause* Now I gotta go download the original...*runs off to go download the original*...

*Runs back* Oh yeea, is "Jailed" next, or the "The Extreme" re-do?

Zak

I don't think Jailed will be for a while, but I think I have a ton of time now, so more coming next week.

why don't you go for Cyan's theme? or Celes... or Gau?

Anything from FF VI or IV would be good in my book.

And please, try to fix your recording method, because although your Seeking Power version sounded good where composition is concerned, the sound quality was unbearable.

Zak

Alright, next will definitely be something from FFVI, I think I know what... thanks for the feedback BTW and I'm still trying to figure out how to fix it, and will re-do most of them once its fixed and probably start a new thread. I'm getting a keyboard this summer which should be easier.
Thanks again though, critical comments like yours are more what I'm after, don't mind Dant_e (referring to before).

If I were to do something from FFVI, of the ones you mentioned it would probably be Cyan, but I got something else in mind... but I think I might work on getting it fixed and start a new thread once I do instead of constantly bump this one.
