I was wondering, can Gilgamesh kill bosses with Zantetsuken if he connects? Or does he always miss?

I would imagine he misses.

He misses, of course.

Masamune is what you want him to use in boss fights, and that seems to be his rarest move. But if anything, you DON'T want him to come during boss fights because it resets your ATB meters and cancels your summons, iirc, and he's unlikely to do something good.

was there a specific way to get him to come ever? or was it all by chance?

Chance.

I've never seen him come, and I did a lot of training in disk 4.

I've played the game enough times to have seen him a few times. But his appearances are very rare in general. Which is perfectly fine by me. Odin showing and killing off enemies you were trying to steal from was as annoying as hell.

Out of all the times I've played this game way back when, I can count on one hand the times he has come out. He's only done 2 attacks: Zantetsuken and Excalipoor.

He seemed to turn up for me, against shitty enemies. But when i was against an iron giant or something, and i wanted him to turn up, he didnt. It was all by chance. Also, im sure there were iron giants in VIII. But if there wasnt, i must be thinking of something else.

Either way, i do remember his timing being terrible.

At least Odin only appeared at the start of a battle, it's not like he would come while you're working on trying to steal or trying to maintain an attack pattern. Once you have control of the characters you were safe in knowing that Odin wasn't gonna come.

Yes. Gilgamesh does come out during a battle if he wants. Did that when I was fighting Griever...only to do Excalipoor that did only 1HP worth of damage. Funny thing though, it actually killed him. He did ruin it for me one time. I was mugging Blitzes because I wanted a certain item (can't remember) but the Blitz needed to be at a higher level and can only be mugged. So I used the LVL Up ability on him and right afterwards, Gilgamesh comes out and does Zantetsuken. He did that 3 times in a row, but the other 2 were as soon as the battle began. And of course, for a long while, I kept running into the OTHER monsters in the area.

Power Generator, maybe? Blitz is supposed to carry that item, which teaches a rare blue magic for Quistis, but I was never able to obtain it using that method.

I'm curious though, Centra Ruins IS accessible in the 4th disc, right? So if you simply wait until the fourth disc to get Odin, you won't have to worry about Gilgamesh, would you?

No, you wouldn't. However, despite his annoying appearances, the benefits of gaining Odin early are generally enough for people to decide to go and get him early.

I think I'm going to wait until disc 4 to obtain Odin on my next playthrough (if whenever that will be.)

Personally, I would never want Odin on Disc 4, but different choices for different playing styles...

Ah, yes. That was it. I was about level 20 or 30 on disc 4 and heard about the Blitzes carrying a certain item that can give a new limit to Quistis, but have to be at a high level and can only be mugged. I also learned that you can refine these into Pulse Ammo as well, so it's possible to get Lionheart on the first disc. Too lazy to try and get it (as well as play the damned game). Oh well...

I have the guide and for some reason I've never been able to obtain the Power Generator through the Laguna/Lunatic Pandora sequence. It's a great guide, but I think it missed explaining how to get it. It says it's there on the page for that part listing it, but it doesn't mention how to go about getting it in the walkthrough.

So, twice I got my Power Generator from the Blitzes, sat around fighting Blitzes and mugging about 50 of them 'till I got it. It's rare, but it's not astronomically rare like XII made some things.

And if you equip Bahamut's Rare Item? Will it appear quicker?

Agent0042

I think Rare Item only applies to drops.

Meltigemini

That's what I thought originally too, but I heard recently that if you have Rare Item equipped it actually prevents you from being able to mug the Power Generators at all. Normally your chance is something like 12/256 if I remember right but supposedly Rare Item can reduce that to zero.

This sounds a bit farfetched to me as I thought it only related to item drops, but I know it can have certain negative effects on item drops at least. I've never had a Jet Engine or Rocket Engine from a Cactuar when I've had Rare Item equipped, but I remember getting lots before I ever got Bahamut. It raises the chances of getting some items seemingly at the expense of others.

As I said though I didn't originally think it affects stealing, but if you're having trouble getting Power Generators, maybe try taking off the Rare Item ability and see how it goes.

Melti! Always good to see you here. All right, thanks. That's a good tip. I'll try it out if I ever find myself playing the game again and needing a Power Generator.
