What's your opinion about on them?

I think they sucked. The characters looked like crap and so was the acting, the CG, and everything else. It also had such a low budget and I think Sony or Miramax would have done a much better job. The creators must've been dissapointed.

No, I don't make it my mission to shit on everything in life. Only when it needs it also I believe that if you do a crap job the first time 'round you should atleast make an effort to improve on it the second or third time 'round.

If your comment about a crap job the first time around refers to the Death Note manga and/or anime, you just went up a couple points in my book.

However, bashing the movies the way you did is pretty dumb. You came off like a ranting idiot instead of someone with a legitimate complaint.

From my point of view, it's basically imposible to compare real life to anything that is made out of drawings and computer.
First, because 'tis simply stupid to compare a character created made out the author imagination and an actor. Specially when you already saw the anime you'll always find flaws and differences that shock you as you have already seen the real thing.
Secondly, I doubt any company would have made it better, I do believe there're problems that would never appear with a high budget.
And one thing that troubles my mind, is that I think they should made some more significant changes to the plot. If we compare the manga and the anime, you'll find them. Maybe they should have chosen a path where reality makes a much more impact than the anime.
I also doubt the creators to be dissapointed as long as they get the money, we are the ones dissapointed.

But at least there were Asian Actors not like the new Akira film they're going to make...

It wasn't too bad, but I think people expected too much from it. Death Note (the anime) has a unique style of animating, it just can't be reproduced in a live action film. Still, it is Death Note so it had a great story, and at least they seemd to get the characters right/quite accurate.

I admit I personally held a high standard for Death Note because it had such a great story...
But the art was nothing new to me...
If you examine other pieces of manga, including hentai...
You would find that it has a very similar style to Gunma Kisaragi...
And the only one who I thought was good was the casting of L...
Misa was horrible casting...

Lozeng3r, I agree with you. Anime is anime, and movie is movie. Nobody wanted and was going to make a copy of the anime. they just wanted smth, that would attract people to DN, IMHO
As for me, i watched movie first, thanks to that I got interested in anime and manga. but for Tatsuya Fujiwara (Yagami/LightKira), whom I adore, i would have never seen this anime. That's why I feel obliged to it :)

According to these posts, i better not to watch movie.
I have just finished anime and it something that changed me.
My eyes was actually full of tears when Watari and Ryuuzaki died.

I haven't seen the films yet but read and watched Deathnote. The Anime got weaker after the introduction of Near. It still wasn't bad it just seemed like it was trying to be a little too "action packed" they also didn't pay off stuff as much.

Overall I really enjoyed Deathnote, it had a lot of promise and it delivered for the most part.

I think it was a great idea to make the movies and i think it couldn't be made better then it was.

The movie over all was okay, but the Misa the actress did a terrible job as to portrayin the anime char...i think the best part of the movie was wen there is a 3-D ryuk and the person who potrayed "L" was really good. For the most part ..everything else jux went down hill from there. =P

Way better than the anime. The guy who played Ryuk was awesome. Basically, the two movies summed up the movie better than the anime, and the manga.

yes, and besides it's better when in the movie L and Kira die simultaneously, not like in the anime, where L dies the first

Oh, so you don't like the way it hammered out the extraneous bullshit that caused the anime and manga to drag on more than twice as long as the concept could support, murdering the pacing and any sense of tension it had already built? Remind me to never take your advice (and that of the other dummies like you who've posted here) when you recommend anything.

He looks like the L in the anime, but If Iam honest it looks weird if a human just acts like L in the movie...
I didnt like it very much, BUT Misa was amazing, I mean she hadn't blond hair but she was very kawai, heheXD

Haven't yet seen all the anime, or the movies. From the sounds of things in here though doesn't sound like I've missed much!

Saw the movie last week.
Not bad for a Japanese film, which do tend to be low-budget. I enjoyed it, but only because I knew there was more to the story. I thought that the movie itself sucked. If someone had just walked into the theater, not knowing a thing about the anime or manga, the ending would be totally lost on them. Really the best things the movie had going for it were Ryuk and the story created by Tsugumi Ohba, which it deviated from considerably. I don't mind some changes, but there's a reason Death Note was popular enough to be made into a movie.
I would rather the movies been more of an alternate reality/ storyline where some of the same events took place as they did in the manga and anime, such as when Light found the Deathnote and met Ryuk, and when L came on the scene. Stuff like that should have stayed, but freshened up with new scenarios, not recycled ones. The bus scene is classic, but I've already seen two versions of it.
I guess what I'm saying is that it lacked imagination.
Also, Prak. If you're referring to the series after L dies and near steps in, then yes, I can agree that it is somewhat stretched out in that regard. Otherwise, this is probably one of the best and least stretched out series in years. So what if it has a lot of dialog? It's a battle of wits and cunning. I enjoyed it so much more than any other new series because of that.

I like the movie.. Probably because I watched them both before I watched the anime or read the manga. It also helps that I like Kenichi Matsuyama(L) as an actor :)

I have them both on DVD and I like them. :D
