I searched all the recent pages of the forum and didn't find a thread like this that exists. In your opinion, what is the hardest/ or most challenging Final Fantasy in the series? If you haven't played all of them, what do you think the most challenging one is?

So far the hardest one I've played (well haven't finished it yet) is Final Fantasy IV. I'm not too sure how to explain why, but the enemies just seem to do a lot of damage and wipe out your party easily if you don't use your head and strategize XD. But it's been fun though.

So far I own;
FFI
FFII
FFIII (haven't started that yet)
FFIV (still playing obviously)
FFV (haven't finished it)
FFVI
FFVII
FFVIII
FFIX
FFX
FFX-2
FFXII

Well, id say any of the ones in a cartridge, i mean, disks are very brittle. They could easily break.

Also, The original FF is pretty difficult. ( i mean the one from the NES, not the remakes... the PSP version is easiest FF ever)

The remake of FF II for the GBA advance that I tried playing is the hardest I thought. Just gave up once I got to some tower. Probably will never return to the game ever again.

II can be the easiest, as you can max your stats before leaving the first town, if you so desire. I didn't leave until all 3 permanent characters had 9999HP. No, SRSLY.

I guess I'll go with the hard version of IV, as well. The rest just take time to level up to an appropriate level/acquire a certain skill/gain access to an item/weapon that'll allow you to decimate the optional boss(es). Though, you could say that of IV, too.

Oh well, whatever.

None are hard at all when you put it that way.

Max HP in II? Smack each other that much in one battle or something? How long would that take? Good grief!
Well, with Minwu's support, I went into that occupied town across a lake near the beginning to train against those captains. Hard as hell at first, now I make mince meat out of them - not to mention the neat drops. The game is really easy now so far.

Well that was my point. They take time as opposed to strategy or skill.

Probably why I'm such a horrible gamer otherwise :p

I would not have the patience to do that. O.o'

Well, I'm a strategist, want tips? =P

Which Final Fantasy was it that you had deliver a letter, but to get there, you had to travel through some cloud place; making your screen completely grey? I remember playing it, but after I had been trying to find my way out for about 3 hours, I quit playing altogether - it was impossible for my liking...
I have a feeling it was IV.. but can anybody confirm which 1 it was?

For me I would have to say IV was the hardest. I haven't played in ages, and I don't feel like contending with the fucking wall/monsters whatever...

Well I guess XII is the hardest for me. I havent played any of the early FF's like 4 or 5. So XII or IX were the hardest for me. I've been killed by the Taimat on XII like 20 times.

Tiamats not hard without proper stratagy. Just wait till you see the great wyrm sexpot

But FF XII WAS hard. I have yet to finish it, just passed the uber easy King Bomb and what do you know? The monsters levels increase by 10-15 as soon as you step into the next area. Elvorets were a pain in the ass.

Maybe because they are guarding something of great value ;)

Currently playing VI and it's been the hardest one I've played.

If you are referring to the package Cecil has to deliver and go through a cave fille dwith mist, then yes...but the screen is not completely grey last time I remember...

Uh, none of them..?

Maybe the question should be 'least easy Final Fantasy?'

And I'd go for XII, for the record; of the ones I've played (from VI onwards excluding XI) it generally had the most difficult storyline bosses. X would probably be next.

Final Fantasy IV DS by a wide margin. I'm half wondering whether it's going to be toned down for the US release.

It may be since a lot of foreigners seem to make assumptions that all of us Americans are dumb D:. I heard the same thing about a rumor I heard where "the Japanese didn't release Final Fantasy III in the US because they thought it would be too hard for Americans". It was a some comment on youtube.

Hardest Final Fantasy would be III for DS, have you tried getting
that darn game out of the holder thing, sometimes it feels like the games ganna break.
Yeah, but the least easy Final Fantasy is IV, no running from battle you need all the experience point...

FF for the NES was pretty challenging.

Not to mention that your gil drops too if you run away from the battles. Well...the same thing happens with IX too, but FFIX wasn't too hard. I actually had an easier time playing FFIX than IV to say the least. I think FFIX wasn't too easy, but not too hard either. IVs been harder for me, but I'm liking it so far ^^. Right now I'm at the part where you get out of the Under World.

It's been speculated that FFV wasn't released here for that reason (at the time it was described as being 'inaccessible' to US audiences) but I'm pretty sure the reason FFIII never made it here originally was simply that it was too late in the NES's system life to justify brining it over.

Yeah this is hardest one for me too. I think it was becase I never really got around to leveling everyone up and all the monsters were really hard. You ran into a monster battle after a certain amount of steps because i always restarted when i had to battle a really difficuly monster cause i was lways low on hp. I quit for a while but then i started back up and beat it. The final boss is nothing compared to the game.

Also FF4 is really hard i got all the way to the final boss and then I died pretty much instantly. I can't beat Zeromus

Is this your first run on the game, Because this will probably be my fifth run on it (even though i haven't passed it)? I've gotten i bit further from were your are. I get killed, because some of the bosses like to do that with their amazing power, and obliterate me. (I got good weapons and armor, and decent levels for my characters 56-61). This will be my last play thru, I will pass it.

Sidenote: I like this game (a bit more than the other ones, actually my favorite one) Thats why i can stand playing thru it a lot.

The hardest one is FF1 for the NES. If you don't plan your attacts right you charicters will end up attacting nothing. and some thime hard monsters will suddenly appear.
