Hey guys I'm new to FF. I only got into it after watching AC and I'm wanting to know whats the best FF game to play first so I get the feel for the world and such. What game do you guys think is best to start off with?

Well if you`ve seen Advent Children already I suggest you to play Final Fantasy VII.

FFVIII was the first game I got ahold of. FFVII I played after. If you chose to play FFVII first, be sure to try FFVIII after, its an equally beautiful game.

Yeah, the first FF i played was VII. But id reccomend VI or X. But to be honest, i dont really think it matters that much.

:-D Yay, I'm a newb too
mooooorreeee noooooobbbbsssss!

I'm quite new as well. My first final fantasy game was FFIII for DS.
:-P

I still like D&D better. Kind of. I like the deep plot in FF games that Forgotten Realms doesn't seem to have.

Well, I started with FFVII and it warranted me to play the others after.
But I suggest you start off with FFVI (which is what I'm playing now, and loving it) because it just has an awesome story line and one hell of a villian.

What game systems you have, in the first place? A Playstation 2 would pretty much cover everything. If you really liked Advent Children, you could try out VII, the game the movie is based on. But on a personal note, I would recommend X, as its pretty easy to get into.
Also, if you do not mind the 2D graphics, you could try out VI. Its has been re-released for PS1 and recently, for GBA.

Though I agree with this. Which made me wish I played VI before all the other FF's because the graphics are really hard to get used too.

If at all possible play around with "I" first, the rest are up for debate. If you have an emulator I reccomend the unreleased version of FFIII (not the DS version; play it after the OG to notice differences). I must admit however I am slightly biased, as I tend to favor V & VI over the others

final fantasy 10, then X-2, then final fantasy VII

First time players will naturally do well to look at the easier games in the series, so FFVII and FFVIII are the places to start I think. FFX-2 is also a good one for beginners, but its plot won't make much sense if you haven't played X first.

I have to admit I haven't played the earlier ones, though, only VI-XII.

honestly that's the best way to do it
but to suggest either III V or VI are rather good points to start
avoid FF II NES for now though pain in the ass it is

1 set the mark for me. I was playing Faxandu at the time and my friend showed up with Final Fantasy. So, I popped it in my NES and gave it a try. I totally fell in love with the series after that.

i just dont get why ppl tend to fall in love with their very first game... so if they played FF7, they will fall in love with that...and so on. i mean i didnt fall in love with any games, all i did was enjoy my time playin them...
but i did fall in love with characters...XD

this is exactly why there are so many VII fanboys becuase a new generation of gamers got there hands on the playstation as there first system with FF VII coming all high and mighty...and the rest all but fade....

sorry to go off a little but yeah he has a point that works here VII is "OK" but I most certainly wouldn't start there, I was just thinking that VI really would be a good place to start... Now I'm not bein a fanboy here noting the name seriously it really could be a good place to start, straight off you have what final fantasy is a story and actually I'm not gonna spoil much but those who know already not like you hafta customize each person straight out and change all the sudden which makes it a bit simpler so yeah why not?

Also make sure you play FF tactics sometime aswell. It is the best FF game in my opinion

It's a good method but I wouldn't read up on them too much to keep somewhat the element of surprise in it, innit?

And I really favor either FFIX or FFV as an ff game to start out with. Don't really know why, but they're pretty neat as introductory.

Why start with a game later in the series? Start with what made the game popular.

Start with I.

It's a great game.

ummm i don't think it is a good idea to start with ff7 or 8
you know ff7 in 1998 in that time it was a big jumping in graphics world
but for you it is hard to love its graphics if you didn't play it in its time
my favorite one is 7
but for you try to playX

I agree. You really just can't see the movie without playing FFVII first ;).

As for beginners level, I reccomend ether Final Fanasy X or X-2 (because they were just so damned easy, Final Fantasy II and I on GBA, or Final Fantasy V on GBA because all the GBA ones do seem rather easier than the PS ones.

If the same applies to Final Fantasies IV and VI on the GBA as I mentioned above (because those are the only ones I haven't played), definetely start with those first because they have the best storylines of the classics .

FFVIII I would say no to because the system has so much details involved, it may seem hard, but it really isn't if you're a veteran to video games and rpgs.

It's a good method but I wouldn't read up on them too much to keep somewhat the element of surprise in it, innit?

Very true. Not to mention that if you read up on them on wikipedia, there will be major spoilers.

honestly I gotta go with the guy a few posts above

VIII is a very bad place to start the system is weird and not easy to manage to start out on where the first few games really make it a little easier in a way and to clarify more why 7 isn't so hot is that the materia is a bit flawed in the long run.....in fact you only really need a few in order to finsih the game anyway sometimes
