A little heads up, your cover-shots of the "Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" do not show Vol. 1-3, but 2-4.

And to add to that a little bit, here's the inofficial bootleg (or "Vol. 5") of Curt Sobel's soundtrack for the "Masks of Evil"-episode (Transylvania, 1918):

The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Vol.5 (http://rapidshare.com/files/43490646/yi5.rar.html)

This is an awesome thread. How did you manage to isolate the I.J. 4 trailer music so well?

I'll just take a wild guess and assume that he (or whoever did it) just used the original cues. After all it's just a track from Brian Tyler's "Children of Dune"-score (for the first part of the trailer) and John Williams' classic "Raiders March" for the main part. ;)

Wicked man, did you make the covers? Or is that the official cover for the new movie btw?

IndyJones
03-09-2008, 02:14 AM
yes, I did the trailer mock-up for the KotCS-trailer myself. It is no 1:1 audio, but I did the best for I could do at the fast as I could.

I made the covers myself, but I used official art. ;)

Just for those who are interested:

The new movie poster was released today

Being a huge fan of Drew Struzan I was really anticipating this thing, and it sure as hell didn't let me down. I wasn't THAT thrilled by the teaser-poster, since I thought Drew got Indy's fedora all wrong, but after the comic-adaption-cover (the one used for the soundtrack mock-up in the opening post), I was sure the final theatrical artwork would look stunning. And well, it does!

It's just too sad that the score to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is probably going to be an "editing disaster" just like the Star Wars prequels... The scores to The Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade also have not been given a proper "complete release" from the studio. I've also heard that there is 12 minutes of unused music from Raiders of the Lost Ark that has not been released in the "extended edition".

laughingbat86
04-01-2008, 01:47 AM
I hardly doubt that will be the case. John Williams and Spielberg are basically best friends and he greatly respects his music. Lucas probably does as well, only with Episode II and III there were sequences that weren't finished when JW scored the film. He will not score something he cannot see, hence why he has never scored an animated film, because they always go down to the wire.

The only real film I think that Spielberg has messed with JW's music was The Lost World, so I doubt he will mess with Indy. And here's hoping that the new Indy will bring the complete scores. And FYI, only a few minutes (definitely not 12) of Raiders is unreleased, but it is basically complete.

Mathisismyname
04-01-2008, 03:28 AM
I'm hoping for the best for those new Indy scores!..

P.S.

Spielberg really "messed with JW's music" in Temple of Doom (there's 50 minutes of music missing from the album!!).

laughingbat86
04-01-2008, 10:16 PM
Messing with the music doesn't mean it not being on the album. It means actually messing with it in the film. I've heard nothing about Spielberg messing with any of JW's scores other than The Lost World, and even then it is pretty vague what he actually did to it.

It's awsome!

I'm not to impressed myself.

Its so light hearted and repetitive. Quite a let down. Not at all memorable, a few good bits though. There are also some moments where you're convinced the Indy theme is gonna make an appearance, and it doesn't. :(
Plus 'The Adventures of Mutt' is just plain disgraceful.

Just been thinking about that - why don't you like The Adventures of Mutt? It seems like classic Williams to me. And it quotes the Raiders' theme.

Personally, to be honest, I'm pleased that the score isn't a 70 minute restatement of the theme. It's been done to death for twenty five years. Williams has stated previously that he didn't want his score to become simply variations on the march - because a) audiences will get completely fed up with it, and b) it's an easy way out of actually having to write some music. Williams isn't lazy, and he's not stupid.

I think it's the perfect balance - give us the theme at the outset, then give us a rich, thematic score that alludes to it fairly regularly, but doesn't beat us up with it.

Raiders of the Lost Ark
The original soundtrack came out in 1981 but some time later Lucasfilm presented us with “Extended Version” which contained previously unreleased material. There were two versions – the CD and LP - the great difference was that LP version had a track earlier called “The Well of Souls – Part II” now renamed to “Discovery Of The Ark”. Years latter some groups of fans have recorded a few more tracks into an unofficial CD called “The Complete Motion Picture Score”. However another fan-release has added a track (another version of Raiders March) which replaced a track with sound effects from the ark and currently stays as the best Raiders OST version. It’s called “The Complete Score”. (it's on this thread! thankyou)

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
The original soundtrack appeared in 1985 and it always was considered a rarity. Because it lacked many of the movie tracks some fans recorded the “Complete Album with SFX” which had poor quality. Not satisfied with it some fans (perhaps other ones) released the “Expanded Original Motion Picture Score” which contained exactly the same original tracks plus a mix of another ten tracks (don't know but I think these were extracted directed from the DVD) and, as a bonus, the known orchestral piece released by John Williams “the parade of slave children”. Recently was released “The Complete Score” which has a very good quality and it’s quite complete in spite of lacking the slave children’s parade (and perhaps others from the expanded album). [it's also here, but it would be nice to have the expanded OMP score too]

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
The original soundtrack came out in 1989 and like the previews ones it lacked many tracks. A few years latter some team recorded 16 new tracks with less quality (seams they are playing under water) than the original release; they called it “Vol. 2 – The Unreleased Music”. After that some fans merged the original tracks with the vol. 2 ones into a single album (I don’t remember the title of the album) however, another team had already recorded other 7 unreleased tracks and grouped all these music and into a CD called “Expanded Edition” (they also had the bad idea to rename some of the tracks – not only the unofficial but also the officials entitled by John Williams which brought some confusion).

[Now the part that matters]

There is also on the internet an album called “The Unreleased Tracks” which features not only all the unreleased tracks with their original name intact but also two bonus tracks (the book burning theme and another version of “escaping from Venice” performed by another orchestra). The latest version is called “The Complete Score” - it's also here!- it has all tracks with chronological order, with titles untouched, but lacks the two bonus tracks from “The Unreleased Tracks”.

Now the OSVs: Lego Indy is just a rip-off of the albums we already have. The enhancement that was made on IndyJones' "Last Crusade Adventure Game" is awesome. It's the best MIDI conversion of the game I saw until now. Unfortunately it lacks half of the tracks (intro, flying to Venice, Brunwald castle, voyage to Iskerdum, etc.), but... it's just amazing. Thank you so much.

Fate of Atlantis, well – that’s not a very good version (it’s the Draggor's Den ver.); in fact there are 6 different conversions of Fate of Atlantis soundtrack, I’ll describe them just in case someone has them. And if anyone has them, please post them =D

#1 - A direct conversion from the Highland Productions' midi through a regular Soundblaster AWE. Tracks: 22 / Bitrate: 160kbs / notes: include Crab Raft Remix (from Highland productions).

#2 - Author: Lundquist / notes: people stated it's far better than Dragoor's den version. Source1: http://indyfoa.thefiddler.net | Source2: http://raven.theraider.net/archive/index.php/t-4204.html

#3 - Author: Roger R Holten / tracks 19 (later he completed the album with 21 tracks). Notes: As far as I remember this was a pretty decent version - too bad my computer had to be formatted :( The tracks could be download in Soundfont Island (today is called soundtrack island) but they had to delete them in 2004. Since January 2008 soundtrack island has placed another version (ogg files) | Source: http://web.archive.org/web/20020808000410/http://s-island.mixnmojo.com/indy4mp.htm | Source2: http://web.archive.org/web/20020627205553/http://stud4.tuwien.ac.at/~e9125985/IJC/Movies+TV/Soundtracks/FoA.htm

One thing I've been wondering, did the Raider's March, or any of John Williams' other Indy themes ever appear in the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles? I know the Ark theme, or something sounding very similar appeared in Treasure Of The Peacock's Eye.

I haven't actually gotten it yet, but I requested it from someone who made a bootleg. As I said before, though, it's all at the JW Fan Forum.

EDIT: He sent me the link, but I'm asking for permission first.

EDIT AGAIN: I haven't gotten permission yet, but the tracks are as follows -
Warehouse Escape
Jungle Chase Complete
Jungle Chase(Short)
Over The Cliff

This is a very high quality rip. It's soundtrack quality music. I hope he gives me permission so you can all hear this. I haven't listened to it all, but The Complete Jungle chase has some SFX. Nothing obnoxious.

The only missing music is from the desert chase cue on Raiders, and that's only 45 seconds of missing music, at most.
This set producers, prefer to include the original LP version cue of Desert Chase (7:30), instead of the DCC CD/LP version (8:15).
We will get almost 6 hours of Indy music. All remastered. With long OOP CD's getting expanded treatment, along with a bonus CD, and guess what, those people are still bitching.

There is another member distributing a shorter version(80 minutes) with only clean material, so as to mimic the new releases. The cover they made was awesome. Some cues are removed that he found unnecessary(Raider's March, the adventures of Mutt, etc.) but there is some good new cues that I think will match well with the new release if you were disappointed that the CD featured no new music. Trying to get it.

That's not "the" cover. That's "a" cover I made for an eventual 2-disc expanded set (one of the JWFan.net-members is working on a 100 minutes version). Here are all four I did (posted them over at JWFan.net, before a server crash killed the posts of the last few days):

I guess I'll do backs as well at some point.

I ordered my set today.

In other news, I doubt that bootleg to go with the tracklist I posted will ever see the light.

Otherwise, I got the 39 second cue, Spalko's Dossier(as ripped from the DVD menus) in WAV format today. Come'n'get it.

Can you reupload this please, seems to be down...

How is it waaaay easier? All you do is put the disc into windows media players and click rip. It takes all of a couple of minutes. I really wish people would just buy releases like this so that we can get more of the same. There are many scores out there that have been given poor CD treatment that needs similar treatment, and buying this set will give incentive for studios to think about releasing such albums (I'm looking at you AOTC and ROTS).

If you rip with windows media player you are getting crap files. Its easier because lots of times the version uploaded is a high bitrate and tagged. Tagging can be a pain sometimes. I do agree everyone should buy this if they love it so we can get more like this. Its so reasonably priced too (only 45$ for 5cds on amazon)

Actually, you can rip 320kbs mp3 from Windows, quite good quality if you ask me. And all you have to do is click update album info before ripping and everything is tagged and good to go. Really not that hard. As for this set, I can't wait to get my hands on my copy. Too bad I have a little bit of a wait on my hands.

Well, i now already bought it online, but i'm still downloading here. I am a really big Indiana Jones fan (i have sooo much stuff, from videos, dvds, cds, books, comic books, cards, figures, magazines, etc) but to be honest some of the stuff such as this CD collection i don't like opening and using, i just like to have it unopened as part of my collection (if you know what i mean).

Trust me, if you were as big as a collector as i am, you'll know what i mean. I take copyright rules very important, i don't download something unless i own the soundtrack. The only exception i have had is games. A lot of games i own i really want the soundtrack to, so i download the soundtrack since i own the original game (sometimes they are not available, etc). However, if i REALLY like the game soundtrack (e.g. Lost Odyssey, Shenmue) then i will by the soundtrack straight away (if they are available. But in general with game soundtracks i just download them here because i own the original game anyway.

Well, I finally got a 100+ version of KOTCS(by JWFan's crumbs, if you know of him), but I doubt I should post them. I'll try to get premission.

The quality is deplorable, but it's still good to hear some of the sequences without dialogue and most sfx, although most tracks contain some SFX.

Anybody have any idea where the "bonus" tracks on the fifth disc should be inserted? I don't have the file names in front of me, but I want to just stick the files in their proper soundtrack/scores.

Why this wasn't done for the release is just beyond me. That makes them pretty much close to the running time of hte bootleg CD's if memory serves.

Wazaman, your Temple of Doom list is incomplete. I have a version of the score that includes:

- Anything Goes Fanfare
- Fortune & Glory
- Mara Raja & The Dinner
- The Blood of Khali

I assume your "Indy and the Villagers" is the second part of my "Slalom on Mt. Humol & The Village".

I am tired of these versions that claims to be "the ultimate / special / expanded / complete editions"... complete my ass.

yes but hey at least is something
i have the original versions, bootlegs and these official expanded editions
the temple of doom has better quality than the last crusade bootleg
those tracks you mentioned are from the bootleg version, the ones i posted are from the official expanded editions with the bonus tracks from disc 5
maybe we all can mix the expanded editions with the bootleg versions to have the complete scores but it will have different quality
you will hear from high quality to low quality then high again and so on :p

That's the worst: you are forced to create a tracklist with high and low quality themes, instead of have all of them in high. But it seems that the cost of edit a double CD with the COMPLETE soundtrack (do you read me, Lucas? ALL THE MUSIC, NOT ANOTHER SELECTION) is very expensive to them... for God Sake.

that's probably what we'll have to do. The low quality ones aren't too bad at all, just a bit above tape quality. I actually wouldn't mind doing this as thats what we'll have to do to put together a DEFINITIVE COMPLETE soundtrack list. Bleurgh!

The new release's quality is so much better that the incomplete scores are far preferable to those of this thread.

I just think they're roughly the quality of a tape or a bit higher, which isn't bad to me. I've listened to them on several occasions and enjoyed them.

I'd rather take the bootleg complete versions than a collection that is still missing a lot of music.

My opinion though; to each their own. :)

and frankly, i'd LOVE to compare the sets for each film, compile a master version that has mostly better quality stuff and the few bootleg tracks they're missing, but that would be pretty insane.

So... you can try to unify more themes, like the bootleg versions, that indeed are "film versions". It has no sense to split Diamond Deal, Nightclub Brawl and Fast Streets of Shanghai in three different parts because they sound like one single theme in the movie

New poster here. Howdy.

I just uploaded a version of "Belly of the Steel Beast" that I recently edited from these new expanded albums that not only combines "Belly of the Steel Beast" and "On the Tank," but features the Nazi fanfare heard when Vogel pops up from the tank turret to confront Indy. I had to use the Nazi fanfare from "Marcus is Captured--To Berlin", pitch-corrected up and tempo-shifted to match what's heard in the film, and then carefully edited into the proper place in the track.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MUCI2KQE

I can't say this is the most accurate representation of the film track since there's some additional material contained early in "Belly of the Steel Beast" that's not actually heard in the film itself, namely from about 1:10 to 2:13. But since it's such good material, I didn't want to edit it out.

I also removed the Indy fanfare heard during the first 10 seconds of "On the Tank" since that music precedes the entire tank battle sequence.

All in all, I think this is a pretty well-edited track, but if anyone can make a better version, I'm all for it! Have fun.
