Are they really all that important to a game; i mean nobody buys a game just to see if the music is good right? but then again, some of us could argue that even in a game, the sound/music can impact a persons psyche or emotions no? which in terms could make us feel good see?

Music is very important in games. I has the power to set the tone in a game, and it stimulates the mind.
There are also games like REZ, were music is very important.

I'm usually too lazy to replay game I've already beat so I revisit a game by just listening to its soundtrack, if it's decent. This goes for my handful of all-time favorites, especially.

Music is very important, it has to fit into the games atmosphere. Games with bad music don't have succes.

I like music in video games, but there are times where I want to turn it off without muting the TV because the game doesn't give you that option of being able to turn off the music...gay

I treat music pretty importantly in games, there are some areas where it helps set a new layer to the atmosphere. Dragon Roost Island and Gerudo Valley from the Legend of Zelda series for example.

With out music in video games, some great series would not be have been made. Ex. DDR, Drum Freak, Rock Band, REZ, Donkey Konga.

I think music is very important, but not just in video games. I am a musician myself, music can make you feel something whether it being a memory or just the sound of it. It can make you feel sad, or perhaps joy. Even by itself, music is important. I don't know how life would be like without music honestly.

I find that any elements beyond gameplay only really effects the quality of a game if it's exceptionally good or exceptionally bad.

I think importance of music in a game purely depends on situation and game type. On one hand, EarthBound's music wasn't very good and I still worshipped the game. On the other hand, I wouldn't come within 10 feet of a Percussion Kids arcade machine for obvious reasons.

music is the heart of the game. without the heart, there would be no emotions and feelings. without emotions and feelings, the game is dead.

A good soundtrack is a very good asset to a console RPG and to a lesser extent adventure games in order to set the tone.

In other genres I think it's more important to just have a non-annoying and non-repetitive soundtrack. And certain genres don't really need a soundtrack per se, like first-person shooters for example.

As with the whole 'gameplay vs. story' debate, I'd say the importance of music differs according to the genre.

Music to games is like salt to food. You can eat food without salt, but adding the RIGHT AMOUNT will make the eating process much more enjoyable!!! .. hmmm..

VERY IMPORTANT, such as FF, I always get stunned & amazed with symphonic orchestral tracks in some moments.

Music makes me enjoying playin' games. Even 'SILENT' hill has its own soundtracks (XD)....It's like the rhythm of storyline, in war scene - we must hear sounds of war drums & horn, in romance scene - we must her sax & piano etc.... I should call "necessary"

I think there're many games, with great music pieces such as Castlevania, FF, Romancing Saga, God of war etc..

wow!!!!

I can't stand playing any game without music. When playing Call of Duty or even Halo 3, I have music playing on the dashboard because I'll get extremely bored.

It wasn't so much about the sound quality as it was about the actual tunes. In fact, a lot of classics have had many remixes over the years for this very reason. I can listen to midi music all day long if it is from a game with great tunes.

The music is probably the main factor I use when rating a game. If you have an excelent plot but a shit soundtrack you don't feel anything. You just go through the motions when playing the game. The music helps create the games tone which creates memories that come back to you when you hear the soundtrack on a future date.
