Wait for the PC version

Looks like 37 tracks (including that 80's pop-rock hommage).

03-27-2008, 08:36 PM
I remember that there are actually a number of tracks the OST left out. And sadly, they were also some of my fav tracks too, like the music that plays as you're persuing Saren in that Jungleish stage near the end of the game

@OrangeC

Yesss a russian guy, a great coder but dont ask me how long that will take. Many people work on solutions to play/extract xmas but nothing at the moment. Maybe Microsoft self will release this codec for vista as a part of direct x 10.1 (XAudio2).

bye

Django

yeh i tought it might end up like this
thx for the replies tho
the official soundtrack cuts out allot of variants of certain themes, i'm only lookin for the "loop" of the main melody from the maintheme
sometimes i turn the game on just to hear it ^^;

I too am looking for the Title Theme Soundtrack from Mass Effect. IF someone wants to put it up on YouTube; just a video of the Mass Effect Title screen... long enough to loop through a couple times, I can rip the track from it and post it somewhere. Just send me a PM.

I'm serious about that guys; if one of you knows how to make YouTube videos of the game and can put the title screen on, I can make this happen in an .mp3 format. I'd figure out how to do it myself but... I don't have an XBox 360. : (

Yeah I just beat this game this morning, and I heard the song on Illos, and it is amazing, but not on the OST.I am also rallying for a complete PC rip.BTW, I have the PC version, so if someone could tell me what to do I might be able to rip it, just PM me.

JohnGalt
06-10-2008, 09:37 PM
I've got it too - looks like all the data files are in ".UPK" format...haven't heard of it before. Let me know if I can be of any help, Orange.

OrangeC
06-10-2008, 09:50 PM
Have looked inside the game, its actually packed in a different music bank rather than the UPK bank, the UPK bank has the tracknames while the other music bank has the music in ogg vorbis which can be extracted easily, but the problem is you have to rename each oggfile with the tracknames thats inside the upk file, you can look at the upk file in a hex editor, i have no time to rip this game right now but following my instructions it shouldn't be too hard.

JohnGalt
06-10-2008, 10:09 PM
Sounds fine: I'll look into doing it myself then. If you can just let me know where you found the actual OGG files, that would be awesome - I can't find OGG files anywhere in the Mass Effect folder within Program Files. Are they installed elsewhere or am I just not looking properly?

OrangeC
06-10-2008, 10:26 PM
Go to the mass effect directory and input search for :music bank, it should give you the UPK archive and the other archive that i forgot the extension to that.

Then use nova extractor or a general game archive extractor and extract all the oggs out of the music banks with the other extensions, and just open the UPK bank with a hex editor like hex workshop and you can see the tracknames for the files.

JohnGalt
06-10-2008, 11:59 PM
Wahoo. Now to properly rename and convert the 168 tracks :P

OrangeC
06-11-2008, 12:33 AM
Just a quick tip, i would leave the original files in oggvorbis as to preserve quality.

JohnGalt
06-11-2008, 04:55 AM
I intend to for my own purposes, but I get the impression that lots of people here prefer Mp3 so they don't have to deal with the OGG codecs (i.e. get a halfway decent media player :P ). I'll likely put up the OGG version as soon as I rename the tracks, and then an Mp3 version once I have it all happily converted.

Thanks for the tip though, I'm just trying to think of how I perceive the majority will find more convenient. :)

Django

I think there are some songs that cannot be obtained through the IBS files. The song that plays on Illos is not in any of the IBS files. Can anybody else confirm this? On another note, could it be possible that there are songs in the Upk files?

JohnGalt
06-11-2008, 11:21 PM
The UPK files are just catalogues as far as I can see - they're faaaar too small to contain any significant amount of audio data. The music you're mentioning is either buried somewhere in the music bank and you missed it somehow or it's in a different bank. You might want to see about looking into a few of the other audio ones just in case.

I'm just going into exams now, so pardon me if I'm not too prompt with the tagging, but I am working on it so I promise it'll come as soon as I can get it all done. :)

I extracted every single ibs file, and still couldn't find it.I'll wait until until someone else looks at it, but as of the moment I can't find that song.

Edit-I found it, it's music bank 00104

Looking forward to this!

And by the way... people looking for the Title screen song... we're all retards; it IS in fact on the OST. It is track 27 and is called Vigil. I heard it and rejoiced while listening through the soundtrack. So... enjoy!!

And let me know when the PC version is done; I'd be highly interested in more songs if there are some that didn't make the OST.

Ledgend

Easiest way to do it is to extract music_bank.isb using the Psychonauts Explorer.

music_bank.isb is located at "C:\Games\Mass Effect\BioGame\CookedPC\Packages\ISACT\music_bank. isb"

Use Psychonauts Explorer to open music_bank.isb then click "Dump All". All the tracks will be extracted as .wav, however they are not fully named but have names like "mus_bat_sovereign_a.wav" which are pretty fine, most of the names are quite self-explanatory.

music_bunker.isb, music_knossos.isb and music_unc.isb also have tracks in them, again open and dump all.

Can i just ask, is the music you're referring to the music that plays when you're racing into the Conduit? If so then it is STA_30_Escape2_RJ in my rip...

which is here

I don't see the problem with wav, it is a standard audio format. When i extracted the files they extracted as wav. All the tracks play perfectly for me in windows media player.

If you really are having trouble playing them, which i don't see why, i could upload them in ogg instead if you'd like.

Also may i point out some other good ones that weren't on the OST, mus_normandy_solo, mus_bat_virmire_1_jack, mus_bat_virmire_2_jack, and mus_bat_riftstation_v2_sam.

OGG VORBIS is an audio format like the others, an ogg codec for windows media player is available. take a look here (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ogg.htm)

The tracks you are on about are separate, each one loops at different stages when you are talking to Saren.

Are the songs with the simliar name are suppose to be like one whole part?

If you mean files like mus_area_peak15_1_jack, mus_area_peak15_2_jack etc. then no, they are different tracks that play at different times whilst in Peak 15.

You can use this http://www.snapfiles.com/get/exchanger.html just drag all the tracks and drop them into the program and change to .ogg

That is a very nifty tool, thanks for sharing :)

Not to mention other great tracks that I will soon discover.

You were right the track on the character creation screen is mus breeding 1 =).

I bought the CD that they dared to call a soundtrack and was very disappointed.

Thanks
