That most of the guns in this game are named after some star in a constellation?...

Just curious because I just found out a few minutes ago...

Alot of things in the Final Fantasy game have reverances written all over them. Weapons, summons, everything.

I have. There are alot of refrences in every Final Fantasy game. I mean, Final Fantasy X's cenlestial weapons all had name origins that were pretty interesting. Except for Khimari's Spirit Lance. The man who came up with the name came up with it randomly after eating too much pocky.

I love pocky.

But Final Fantasy XII International version has a "Zodiac Job System."

I noticed that too, I was looking in the back of a dictionary for something and it listed constellations. some I recognized to be the FF XII guns. The ones I first took notice to being guns were the fomalhaut and Vega.

Actually Kimarhi's weapon's name was changed in the US release. It was originally "Longinus" after Saint Longinus: the roman soldier who pierced Christ's side with a spear while he was still on the cross.

Well, yeah, I was at least vaguely aware of it in the back of my head, because I know from multiple references that Sirius is the "dog star" (Sirius Black ;) ;) ) and also vaguely aware on Vega as well. But yeah, never paid all that much attention to it because of being so used to these types of references.

It was Square's translators who came up with the name for the Spirit Lance after eating too much pocky.

Well, blame the translators for "Otherworld" too if you don't like it, because it's actually one of the members of the translation staff that performs the English-language version.

I really didn't like it.

I am playing through the international version with Japanese voice and english subtitles when I get a new PS2. I wonder if Otherworld is in there to...

I hope not.

World Champion.

Here is a quote about Khimari's Spirit Lance ( I will be posting the link where I found this so you can see for yourself).

"Name origin: Just a silly name cooked up by Square's translators after eating
too much Pocky. In the Japanese FFX, Kimahri's ultimate weapon was called
Longinus, which is the name of the Roman soldier who pierced Christ's side
with his spear. The metaphor of a spear that could pierce the divine is lost
in the English translation, sadly. RIP Longinus, we barely knew ye."

It was Khimari's Spirit Lance, not World Champion. Here is what is said about Wakka's (Which is the World Champion).

"Name origin: Most of Wakka's weapons have sport-related names, so since you
essentially need to become the Blitzball World Champion to obtain this, it's
self-explanatory. "
