Just gonna have some fun here, and if you know the answer, shout it out, and then it's your turn. I'll start us off:
In Japan, the black boxer we know as Balrog's name was changed from M. Bison when Street Fighter II: The World Warrior was released in the United States. Why was his name changed?

solid8bit
02-25-2008, 10:13 PM
Capcom of America changed the name becuase M. Bison was to close to Mike Tison.

Question:
What is Akuma's real name in Japanese?

Hynad
02-25-2008, 11:15 PM
Gouki

Who is the creator of the Castlevania series?

solid8bit
02-26-2008, 08:06 PM
Koji Igarashi

Where did Blanka get his name and why is he green?

Tact
02-26-2008, 08:22 PM
this is gonna be a pure all out guess with no background knowledge whatsoever.

blanka sounds like blanca which is the femenine version of blanco which is spanish for white. since his origins are brazilian i think it makes sense cause they speak portugese over there i think and they're word for white is prolly just that, blanka.

as to why he is green. i'm gonna guess the horrible SF live action movie was right and he was some experiment.

let me know if i'm close. :p

my question is....

why do ken and ryu have similar fighting styles?

MET II
02-27-2008, 12:05 AM
Ken and Ryu have the same fighting style because they were both trained by the same master, Gouken. They were trained in Shotokan karate, and the art of hadou by Dhalsim, according to Street Fighter II V. My question is:
What does Akuma mean in Japanese? Oh, and we're not getting enough Castlevania questions so: Who fought Prince Dracula in 1476?

solid8bit
02-27-2008, 07:49 PM
I thank Akuma means 'strong demon'. Aku is 'evil' or 'demon'.

Who where the original Street Fighter charicters (in the game)?

MET II
02-27-2008, 09:21 PM
Close enough, Solid8bit. Akuma means Devil in Japanese. The Original Street Fighters from Street Fighter II: The World Warrior were as follows:
Ryu
Chun-Li
E. Honda
Guile
Ken
Blanka
Zangief
Dhalsim
and the four Shadowlaw bosses:
Balrog (originally M. Bison)
Vega (originally Balrog)
Sagat (never changed)
M. Bison (originally Vega)
But can you answer my question about who defeated Dracula in 1476?

Hynad
02-28-2008, 12:44 AM
The right answer to Solid6bit's question (about Street Fighter, not Street Fighter II) is Ryu and Ken (the playable characters) and Lee, Geki, Gen, Birdie, Retsu, Mike, Eagle, Joe, Adon and Sagat (as the enemy characters).

Trevor Belmont was the first to destroy Dracula in 1476 during the event of Castlevania 3 (easily one of the best in the classic series) on the Nes. Aided on his task by such characters like Alucard and Sypha Belnades.

Question: What Street Fighter project is Capcom creating as a PC exclusive?

MET II
02-28-2008, 03:39 AM
I'll take a stab at it. Street Fighter Anniversary Collection? I thought Solid was talking about SFII. Here's one for you: Name two boxers in the Street Fighter series.

Tact
02-28-2008, 03:39 AM
i was kinda hoping someone would correct me on my blanka guess but i suppose that means i actually got it right? :p cool. :D

as for the last question. no clue. but i'll guess anyway and say sf4? :p

solid8bit
02-28-2008, 03:44 PM
You were on the right track with Blanka's name. Blanka was once extremely pale and was once known as the hombre blanco (white man) and adapted the blanco into his name Blanka. His green skin color is attributed to his constant use of chlorophyll from plants to better blend in with the jungle environment, a color change that eventually became permanent.
As for the answer to the question......... Balrog is one of 'em.......and the other..... I don't know <sad>.

MET II
02-28-2008, 10:41 PM
I was not aware of that information about Blanka. Where did you learn this? I'd like to know, so that I might see this source. I'm not doubting it, I'm just really curious. As for the second boxer, he's Dudley from the Street Fighter III series. Next question: Who was Sagat's pupil? Hynad, what is this exclusive Street Fighter project for the pc, since no one seems to know?

Hynad
02-28-2008, 10:48 PM
The answer to my ignored question is: Street Fighter Online - Mouse Generation.

Noobs.

My friend found a sort of walkthrough of Street Fighter, telling about every character, story lines, who fights who, fighting styles, things like that. I think he found it on Game FAQ. You can just Google Blanka or go to the Wikipeida or whatever.

What character is the new Street Fighter movie (2009) focing on?

Hynad
02-29-2008, 01:17 AM
Chun Li... Portrayed by Lana Lang herself... Kristen Kreuk.

MET II
02-29-2008, 01:34 AM
Their actually going to make a live action movie? Doesn't sound like a good idea after the first one Hollywood did. That totally sucked. And who was Sagat's pupil?

solid8bit

You guys forgot to ask a question.

MET II

Hint: His name has already been mentioned on this thread.

MET II

I don't do arcades so I don't know.
For the fourth time.
Who was Sagat's Pupil?

Four: Ken, Ryu, Akuma, and Sakura.

Question: on many Castlevania games did Richter appear in?

solid8bit
03-03-2008, 12:55 AM
You were right Tact and so are you Hynad. Ryu, Ken, Akuma and Sakura, who is not Ryu's sister. She is just a girl that likes Ryu and self taught herself Ryu's fighting style.

MET II
03-03-2008, 02:25 PM
Richter Belmont appeared in five Castlevania games:
Akumajo Dracula X: Rondo Of Blood or Chibi no Rondo
Castlevania Dracula X: Vampire's Kiss
Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night or Nocturne In The Moonlight
Castlevania: Portrait Of Ruin or Gallery Of Labyrinth
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles or Akumajo Dracula X Chronicle
Very good, then.
Who cost Sagat the use of his eye? When Sagat killed this man, who was the son of this man, who swore vengeance for his father's death?

Tact

e.honda. idk why. i know nothing of him to begin with, and he's relitively young i suppose, (not old like dhalsim) so if anyone is going to be a vengeful son i'd guess him)

It obviously is. But you pointed out that it is worse to know more than know less. Which is completely stupid to say. No matter what the subject. I made the comment about knowing more in life (there are many subject of knowledge there) to show how silly your claim was. Then you jumped to the conclusion that I based the idea of a good life on video game knowledge.

Maybe you should try to follow the train a bit more closely.

Also I can tell this is upsetting you, since you spell like shit when you're aggrevated. Remember Hynad, it's just an internet forum.

After Guile completely destroys Ryu at the bar in San Francisco, he notices Ken sitting at the bar, and asks him why he didn't help his friend while he was getting his ass kicked. Ken answers "We follow a code. We only fight when it's one on one. Not gang up like you military meatheads!" Oh yes, and Sun and Steel, you really should see the series if you are a Street Fighter fan. It's absolutely incredible. Well now you know. You remember the movie well, Solid, but if you think hard, there was a fight in which Ken unleashed his Hadou-Shoryuken to defeat his opponent. Hint: this was probably Ken's second toughest battle in the series.

OK,
Why was Ken sent to Japan as a kid and where did he go?

MET II

Ken was sent by his father to Japan to train under a Shotokan Karate master called Gouken, who was training Ryu as well.
What does Dan Hibiki called his self-founded discipline, and what does it mean?

What is the first game in which Akuma appeared and how could you fight against him?

MET II
03-15-2008, 04:28 PM
This was Super Street Fighter II Turbo. The player had to get perfect victories throughout the entire game, not one bit of damage. Twas an incredible feat to achieve, at least for me. Hynad, I don't know how secure you are, but would you answer me something? Just how old is the person I reply to now. You seem like your well spoken. English major, perhaps? I don't like to be referred to as 'acting like a moron'.

Hynad

Let's just say that I'm older than you and that my pointing at your behavior in the Batman thread was only an advice. Prak is a friend of mine, and if you stick to this forum for a while, you'll realise that it is rather pointless to argue with him over such trivialities.

As for my english... it is funny you'd say something like that. English isn't my natural language, and all I've learned I did so during high school (and maybe some during my later college years) and through experience (via music, movies, and conversations like this one here).

I had read in a Street Fighter comic that Rose and Bison are the same 'person'. In order to achive ultimate Psycho Power, Bison had to get rid of all of his 'good side'. Rose was created from Bison's good energy. Is this the answer you were looking for MET?

MET II

Sheng-Long just means Dragon Punch. Your thinking of Gouken and Gouki's sensei, Goutetsu. He's sometimes referred to as Sheng-Long. Sheng-Long was actually created by the staff of a video game magazine as a joke. They made him into a full fledged character. The words Sheng Long could be seen in a victory quote by Ryu in the Street Fighter II series. "You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance." Everyone thought that he was referring to his master, but the truth is, he's talking about his Dragon Punch, the Shoryuken.

If I am correct then here is my question.

In the Saturn port of Symphony of the Night what is the name of the song that plays in the inverted Cursed Prison, an area exclusive to the Saturn version?

EDIT: It also plays in the beginning if you play as Maria.

MET II

You were correct, Trekkies, but I don't have a clue about differences between the Playstation and Saturn versions of SOTN. So Met, you changed you picture for Trevor to Ken. Why the change? It is a pretty sweet pic.

TrekkiesUnite118
03-25-2008, 05:44 PM
Well the main differences are:

Maria and Richter are playable from the start.
2 new areas added to the castle, the Cursed Prison and the Underground Garden
Maria plays very differently from her PSP counterpart, she is actually quite overpowered, if I remember correctly she can kill almost any boss in 2 hits.
New music for the 2 new areas
New Items
Some technical issues from PS1 to Saturn Porting.

Yes, I am a Zelda fan but that is just the 'tip of the iceberg'. I picked a shield cause it also repersents sides of my personality. If it wasn't for the shield as my avatar it would have a cool looking picture of Akuma's 'Heaven' symbol. The shield is a nice classic pictuce of game that I love.

Ken had short hair, Ryu actually looked Japanese, Bison was gangly old man named Raul Julia, Blanka was created in a lab...by Dhalsim, a scientist, apparently, T. Hawk's a little tiny army man, Dee Jay works for Shadaloo, and has a terrible haircut, Balrog actually goes around everywhere with his boxing gloves (corny), and he's a good guy, Blanka was Charlie before he was transformed, Vega actually looked like a Spaniard (very cheesy looking), Sagat was no taller than Vega, Cammy works with Guile, Zangief also works for Shadaloo, Honda works in the back of a news van, the news reporter he works with is Chun-Li, and Chun-Li's cameraman is Balrog. As you can see, Hollywood really f**ked things up. What kind of a storyline do you call that?

Rosencrantz, you are correct, by the way. Its your go. Your username...that a Hamlet reference?

Oh, that movie. That thing was so horrorable that I could not watch the whole thing. I hope that this next movie will follow the story of Street Fighter. Hollywool has a way of ruining movies based off of video games.

"A New Challenger Appears" - hoho...my wretched ego inflates!

MET II - indeed it is a Hamlet reference, though, and I must confess with a tint of a Onimusha reference as well, as not only it's my favorite Shakespearian work but I also enjoyed the references made in the game and liked most of the characters associated with them.

But enough of that...on with the show!

OK, this is a Castlevania quiz of sorts, not really good at these things so I'm putting this one as a charade:
"I live for fame, fortune and black magic. Infanticide is something that doesn't bother me that much. Fate relegated me to an obscure title. Who am I?"

No. I won't let this die! This thing is fun.
I have no clue what the answer to Rosencrantz question is. Sence no one has conformed you answer, Met, your the only one that gave it a shot. I say you go.

Ooops....

So sorry for leaving all out in the cold like that. My bad. I apologize.

In regarding to MET II's answer - sorry, but it is not the correct one.

Anyway, if you all feel like moving on with it, I'll give the answer and "pass the torch". I'm starting to get the impression I was a bit too extreme on my Castlevania fandom.

Again, my apologies.

I'll guess again: Death?
Perhaps Shaft? I don't remember that quote. I've played and beaten most of the Castlevania games except for the Nintendo 64 titles, and Legends for Gameboy.
If I didn't get it on either of those guesses than please tell me, I'm quite interested in all things Castlevania.

MET II, in respect to your persistance and Castlevania fandom, I add that you have one aspect correct - it is from Castlevania 64.

Everyone was havin such Street Fighter trivia fun, I'm getting the feeling I spoiled all with my obscure Castlevania fandom...

Oh no, of course not, I very much love Castlevania. Its a passion. Could the character be Actrise, whom I just read about on Wikipedia?

Rosencrantz
04-17-2008, 06:21 PM
You are correct sir. It is Actrise indeed.

She is a deranged stage actress turned witch who sold her soul in exchange for eternal fame and beauty. To that end, she has performed 100 ritual sacrifices of children, including her own, hence why "infanticide is something that doesn't bother her that much".
And the obscure title bit, well, you figured that one out by yourself.

http://castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Actrise her entry on the Castlevania Wikia sheds more light on some of her "activities".

I chose Actrise as I think she's a good design (though historically incorrect) and somewhat memorable villain that unfortunately got to be on a infamous entry in the series.

Anyway, as said, you have guessed correctly. Needless to say, it is your turn.

Here is another Castlevania question:
Who are Death's two subbordinates?

If I'm not mistaken, Slogra and Gaibon.

OK, here's a Street Fighter question so that the other series isn't neglected.

The 12 Dolls, Shadaloo's Elite Guard, besides wardrobe, all share a common theme - what is it?

On a side note, I'm starting to notice the difficulty isn't answering questions, but making them up...

Right! LOL!!

I think that all of the Dolls are females.

Damn...you got me there solid8bit.
I edited my post to mention the question wasn't about their clothing. Guess I should have mentioned the gender as well...

Anyway, to speed things up, I'll leave a significant clue - the "common theme" is in their names.

Caignazzo, I don't just mean the 3 playable characters in SFA3. Cammy does not count as part of the Elite Squad (notice her uniform is of a different color).
