Because there are several songs I'd like to rip that I can't find on the forums.

i know little, but if there arent many songs maybe connect the headphone socket of the DS to the line-in on your computer then get appropriate software to record the line-in.

Otherwise im clueless - extracting r*ms and what not

...although i think that would be streaming, sorry if i havent helped :)

Here (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6f1gYxlSoDU)'s a tutorial.

that is helpful. Provided of course that the ROM in question works. I've tried running Bleach DS & keep getting an error message.

Thanks for the tutorial.

Still, background sounds can't be avoided in some games (there is no sound test so...), isn't there a way to clear them after recording?

For example I'd like to record some songs from Mario Slam Basketball (which can be done only by playing a match), without the sounds of the ball and the characters...

Unpack your rom with dslazy,
Find sound_data.sdat in NDS_UNPACK\data\Sound\,
Unpack sdat file with ndssndext.exe

Why won't you just throw the ROM into ndssndext? Much easier.

Just use line-in. Connect the DS to the computer via headphone jacks, the music goes straight in to the computer. Record with a program like Audacity.

As said before, using line-in works but will also collect garbage sounds if you can only record a music by playing the game.

I tried and like the ndssndext solution, but the MID files sound quite different from the original music (same notes, but not the same instruments) : is there a way to fix that ? (I play the MID files with Winamp, should I use another program?)

then the game uses its own / another soundbank than you. You'd have to rip that aswell and use it with your midi. This sounds kinda complicated though, unless there is a programm out there which does it for you ;)

Maybe you can get rid of the garbage sounds by
a) going into Pause Mode
b) going into the menu and see if there is a music player (which was common years ago, but it seems that rarely any game still has this..)
c) disable soundchannels using an emulator. Maybe one of them has a function for this.
