Most people wont remember this game for the PC from 1995 but it had a great soundtrack. However, the entire soundtrack was combined into a single .wav file on the disk so theres only one 9min track.

UPDATE:
I am currently building a complete soundtrack for this game. The links below lead to the directories that I am actively updating with completed tracks.

Just wondering if the soundtrack is available any longer? supahappy, the link is dead. Do you know of another place to download/buy a copy? Thanks.

I appreciate it greatly.

Does anyone know if there was ever an official album release for the game? Something on CD?

Unfortunately, there was never an official album release for this game.

You know supahappy I actually already have this file - I own the PC version of the game. I was trying to get it working the other day and remember seeing your uploaded file on the disc like fifteen years ago.

I'm wondering if anyone has access to more complete musical tracks? Something like what we've seen uploaded onto youtube (YouTube - The Hive (PC / PS1) - Intro and Level 1 (audio only) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG_PpESoF9A)). I've read somewhere that actually the PSX version of the game had better audio compression (but lower visuals) vs the PC counterpart. Any confirmation of this?

I just bought the PSX version off ebay. When it arrives I will try to make a proper rip.

This should be the cleanest rip of The Hive to date and to give you a taste here is the first track.

Sounds amazing! I'm very excited.

Did you extract the audio from the PSX version or is it actually redbook audio on the disc?

PSX extraction of over 5000 four second mono wav files that contain both left (first 2 seconds) and right (last 2 seconds) audio tracks. I separate and recombine all the wav files into a complete stereo track then adjust to the correct sample rate (44100) and finally run it through a click/pop filter.

That explains the choppiness of the youtube versions, whomever put them together didn't do a complete job of recombining them and sending it through a pop/click filter. These, on the other hand, are excellent. Great work, keep it up!

Hate to bump an old thread, but the work on the first few songs of this soundtrack is amazing (I've been looking for a good rip of this for YEARS). I tried a few years ago, but the best I could do was play through with the PSX version (higher quality audio) but even then there is popping/clicking that was present in the original game.

I'd be glad to take over and work on the rest of the game, I just have no idea how the wave files were extracted from the .LPS files, does anyone know?

I think i used PsxMC (PsxMC - Playstation Utility in General Category - Zophar's Domain (http://www.zophar.net/utilities/psxutil/psxmc.html)) to rip the audio files. You will then need to stitch together a ton of wav files (all separate left and right audio) and clean them up afterwards. It's very hard and as you get further into the soundtrack the wav files get jumbled with little pieces of track audio everywhere. This is why i gave up. It also didn't help that the sfx in the later tracks become too much and the soundtrack suffers.

I got the wavs pulled out with PSound SoundReaver2 (they seem to be native 44KHz, which is awesome news - I always thought it was the standard PSX 37KHz). This is definitely going to be a pain. I have no idea why they thought alternating left and right channels in a single file was a good idea, and can now see that this is why there were so many pops/clicks in the original game. I guess it has to do with the limitations of the hardware at the time.

Through some batch processing, I got Hangar Bay pulled apart to compare to your work. I remember each level had "checkpoints" where the video would repeat or jump around depending on how you played, which complicates things as not all files are exactly 2 seconds (probably the end of one of the video clips). I only pulled apart the 2 second clips, joined them and it plays fairly smoothly.

When comparing my old rips I found that the first portion of the wave file is the right channel. The first two 87kb files are each their own channel and the first file is the left channel. There is at least some logic to follow (although seemingly backwards). There are other files in the 200 - 300 kb range as well. Not sure what to do with those yet, seems that have more that one portion of the audio in them.

I will post my work on a Google drive folder. The intro/ first level was easy to put together and I have uploaded a "beta" version of it. Heavy de-clicking helps with the pops, but I'll probably need to manually de-click in my final version like those crazy vinyl rippers as you can still hear the pops after automatic de-clicking.

Thanks for your help and inspiration supahappy! I'll take a stab at the rest and see if we can put together a nice complete version of this excellent soundtrack. It will be nice to replace the 22KHz crap posted on YouTube as well for others to enjoy.

Man, thank goodness someone is back at this, thanks Carlton for giving it a shot, although it sounds like it may be an impossible task in the end. Good luck!
