It's only really possible if you have a mod chip in your wii, or a very specific brand of LG CD-ROM drive. Run a google search for ripping wii data and you'll see.

Neither of those have to do w/ music ripping:

LG Drive just allows you to dump (copy) Wii games into ISOs which you don't need to, you can just download them.

Also you can Softmod your wii (you don't need a modchip) but all that will do is allow you to play backups.

As far as I am aware there is no way to do "digital" music rips for wii games at the moment (like what you can do for NSF, SPC, PSF etc.) the only way is to make analog recording using your line-in on your PC or digital audio recorder. It's pretty tedius to do right now.

use line in.
buy a cable like this (http://www.ebyte.com/productdetails/CABLES+TO+GO/40371). Have the sound from the tv going line-in into your computer. Use a simple recording program like Audacity and hit "record". Be sure to add a fade out boom your done

Desktops usually have a line-in jack (just like headphone jack right next to it, but with the <-- arrow indicating line-in. Laptops might not, but you can buy an external sound card (http://www.oneusb.com/) that has a line-in jack.

So, is it possible nowadays to extract the music directly from a Wii game, or do you have to do it manually with cables and plugs and that sort?

I think this (http://www.mediafire.com/?wsft9paao4pxawg) is what I used last time I did it, but I don't have a Wii ISO on my hard drive to check right now. "Wii Music Rip Tools V2" sounds like the right name though. Wiiscrubber is the thing that does the actual ripping, I believe. I'm sure Google can tell you things I can't.
