I think there is one in Balfonheim. Try talking to the chocobo wrangler.

The cockatrice locations are as follows:

Sassan - South Bank Village (Estersand)
Shurry - Jahara
Chit - Eruyt
Moomer - Balfonheim (Chocobo Hire)
Agytha - Archades
Renn - Rabanastre

* Talk to the Chocobo Wrangler and show her the Feather of the Flock.
* Then talk to the Miffed Moogle when he approaches the fence.
* Then go to Gurdy.

After everything Moomer will go back toe Giza and you will get Defender.

How the hell did you get him across the river?

Well first off you must have the ferry running.

If you have done that then there is a certain order for how the people must cross the river.

- Select "Nathyl" and then return to South Bank by selecting "no one".
- Next select "Arryl" and then return once again, selecting "no one".
- Take "Sassan" with you the next time and follow him when you reach North Bank.
- Speak to him and he returns to Giza while you get a Koga Blade.

I can post how to retrieve each Cockatrice if needed. Just let me know.

I've done that but he won't get off the damn pier...

Take everyone back to South Bank and try again - you've probably made a mistake somewhere along the lines. Either that, or your game's faulty.

Try talking to him when he is on the pier or running out into the village. If nothing happens you might want to take everyone back and start over. That is exactly what I did and it worked perfectly for me, so I don't know what could be wrong.
