i've played ffix for 3 hrs and saved my game last tuesday night. so i've tried to play it last night. when i opened my data using the first slot of my ps2, there was no data saved. then, when i inserted the memory card in the second slot, the data was there however, it was corrupted. i've checked the memory card and i've found out its unformatted so i went ahead to format it being compatible to ps2. that said, i lost my data in which i had to start the game from the beginning again. now, its formatted to ps2. would i still encounter problems about loading my saved data? or would i still lose my data or get corrupted data?

If your memory card is corrupting, it's either the card or the game. Its not going to have anything to do with systems, although, depending on how old your PS1 is,the PS2 may run it better. If you can, you may want to try and get a new PS1 memory card. If it still corrupts get your discs fixed, or a get a new copy of FF9. I've delt with that shit before and its a pain in the ass.

So I'm not the only one who has encountered this problem? Yeah my PS1 memory card says it needs to be formatted if I let it sit for too long...Now I just copy the data to my PS2 memory card and recopy it back when I need to... I almost threw my PS2 into the woods, good thing it was only a bottle I grabbed...

I hear it's usually a hardware problem, like an internal battery or something.

I took my memory card apart and all there is inside is a motherboard thingy...
Battery?

the PS1 memory cards were built bad. I dont know why mine is still in working condition. you could try replacing the board for it. thats probably going to cost the same as going to a pawn shop or a gamestop, and buying a PS1 card if they have them.

Gamestop stores that are in my area only supply things for consoles that are still on the market... so I highly doubt you can just go in and get a new board for a PS1 card... if its a local store that sells NES and SNES games, I think it is more likely that they have one lying around somewhere....

True. Corporate places are only going to have newer stuff. well like I said, pawnshops or Franchise game stores

It's not really new since they stopped making those types of memory cards like seven years ago...

Ditto, except for that the controllers take the brunt of the abuse in my house :(
