Let's talk about what you thought of the soundtrack overall? Was it as strong as the entries before it? Did they go a completely different direction with the songs? Personally I think it was just as good if not better than the one before it. It had a certain comfort about it; warm, tender, but forceful.

FF9 and FF6 are my two favorite soundtracks of the FF series. FF9 obviously has the technical upper hand, but I still think it had variety and some wonderful all-encompassing melodies that made it my favorite. Of all the soundtracks I have, this is still the one I listen to, and whenever I hear songs like the world map theme, and Dali or Burmecia, I want to play the game again.

Plus it also has my three favorite Uematsu piano pieces of all time: Todakanu Omoi, Roses of May, and Melodies of Life. Not to mention You're Not Alone... ^_^

Zulu, kurohime, you are obsessed. You are always talking about FFIX. There are 12 others in the series, you know. :p

But no, I agree. FFIX's music was generally excellent. My main complaints are with the lack of a decent boss battle theme, which is quite a big bummer. The only time you get decent music is during the boss battles with Beatrix, Kuja or the 'Living by the Blade' theme that plays while you're battling Baku and his cronies when you're acting out 'I want to be your Canary'.

I have to say though apart from that the music is great. My favourite tunes are the world map theme, the aforementioned Living by the Blade tune, and At the South Gate Border, which plays during the Berkmea cable cabs scene while Steiner and Garnet are returning to Alexandria at the start of Disc 2.

I liked almost all of the songs from the soundtrack. I especially like Beatrix's themes, as well as the Freya/Burmecia music. The music that plays during the Festival of the Hunt is pretty good too.

I didn't like Kuja's music, but I think that is to do with my hatred for Kuja himself.

I loved the music from this game, and actually Kuja's theme was one of my favorite ones! There's a bunch that I liked, it did have a much better soundtrack than most previous games.

Its probably my favourite entry in the series when it comes to music. Some of my favourite pieces from it are You're Not Alone, Jesters under the Moonlight (I think thats the name for Zorn & Thorn's theme), Skirmish of the Silver Dragons and Protecting my Devotion (the theme that plays for Steiner & Beatrix in Alexandria, disc 3).

Oh, I also love that theme! Beatrix & Steiners theme. It fit the situation well. Lifa Tree is nice too, and kind of creepy.

I like the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack, but I think that Nobuo Uematsu was either running out of ideas or just being lazy when writing the music because some of the songs either have a similar melody to The PLace I'll Return Someday or Melodies Of Life... and I swear I've posted this somewhere in another thread in the Final Fantasy IX forum...

Basically the whole album.

Agreed, but that's how I feel about most of Nobuo's work. Guess I need to develop more of a critical feeling towards music. ^^

The whole album is a masterpeice and the Piano Collections are even better. I absolutely adore Final Fantasy IX's soundtrack. "That Place I'll Return To Someday" (Final Fantasy IX's Main Theme) is my all time favourite Final Fantasy song.

I heard somewhere that the FF9 soundtrack was Nobuo's favorite. I can't agree more! I love a lot of the pieces from Final Fantasy IX especially the one time per play through songs such as Feel My Blade, Bran Bal, Your Not Alone and Passing Sorrow. The song Feel My Blade sounds so epic that it should have been used more on more boss battles in places such as Alexandria, Lindblum and Cleyra :D

Some favorite songs from the soundtrack: Eternal Harvest, Feel My Blade, Rose of May, Passing Sorrow, Vama Alla Flamenco, Terra and Forgotten Face. :D

The OST Plus and Piano Collections for Final Fantasy IX are spectacular :D

The FF9 soundtrack was good, but it still doesn't beat the one for FF8. Perhaps a close second.

All the "Rose of May" wannabe tracks (including itself) were up there. Same with Vivi's theme and all the variants of it.

Before I go on, as for the piano collection, I find the fact that "Kuja's Theme" and "Jesters of the Moon" didn't make it, to be a real travesty. FF8 had the most fitting piano collection.

9 had the best normal battle music though, every other game I played I just got sick of it. The boss battle music was decent, but compared to other FFs it was meh. It's certainly no "Force Your Way".

But I think my favorite track of all on the IX soundtrack had to be "Eternal Harvest". That, AND it's piano collection version. "Vamo 'alla Flamenco" is a close second. Loved the intro in the piano version of that.
Hope the Black Mages do more songs from FFIX. Their version of Vammo was great, and on their upcoming album they're doing "Assault of the Silver Dragon"!

Speaking of the Black Mages, how is it that there isn't a single topic on the whole shrine about their new album that's coming out in FOUR DAYS?!

On a side note, "The Place I'll Return to Someday" and "You're Not Alone" were relaxing, but definitely not my favorite. I don't get what's special about them, being kinda repetitive and all.

I loved FFIX's soundtrack!
It just sounded much smoother than the other's (Though I fairly liked VIII (especially when inside the Lunatic Pandora) and VII was alright). FFVI's soundtrack is quite amazing though - IX and VI are definantly my favorites.

My favorite tracks would include the Boss theme, Kuja's theme, Loss of Me, and the boss battle music when fighting Beatrix.
...damn, I really want to play FFIX now.

I really liked the music, actually. City of Flamenco, Melodies of Life, Hermit's Library(if that's how it was written) were my favorites. I have the songs on my S Generation CD right alongside with FF7 and FF8.. I really need to think about getting the entire soundtrack.

I liked most of them actually but my favourites are "Burmecian Kingdom" which they ruined inside the game by putting the battle theme to play on the background every time a battle was initiated and "Place of Memory" the one that plays in Memoria.

FFIX's soundtrack has a large array of great tracks including Kuja's Theme and Hunter's Chance. Honestly I enjoyed FFVI and FFVIII's soundtrack a lot more, but it is still great in it's own right.

IX's soundtrack is one of my favorites of the series. I like general medievel-ish (maybe just old sounding) feel to it, even though there was some electronic stuff mixed in, it all seemed to meld together pretty well. It was a very different approach after VIII's also unique soundtrack, but after all, the entire game was a much different approach than the two before it. One of the things I like the most about Uematsu's soundtracks is the huge number of different styles and moods represented throughout (something I don't feel Hitoshi Sakimoto was able to accomplish in XII, but that's another story.) As always, I find the battle/boss and escape/danger themes to be the ones I pay the most attention to. The normal battle theme is a little too slow-paced for me, although it is enjoyable, it's not one of my favorites. The boss theme was very different from previous FF boss themes, but I enjoyed it as well. The Beatrix battle theme was very good, and the final battle theme is one of my favorites of the series. This also had a very good villain theme with several other incarnations on the soundtrack, which is always an important thing for me, Kuja's is one of the most chilling and perfect villain themes in the series.

Some of my favorite tracks...

"Black Mage Village"
"Final Battle"
"Immoral Melody"
"Kingdom of Burmecia"
"Terra"
"Vivi's Theme"
"You're Not Alone"

My favorite track on the soundtrack is probably "Immoral Melody".
