I liked the game alot but there was 1 anoying thing, u don't want to level up, though it is a rpg u just wanna level for new abilities, but that's not the case. Sure u can junction new abilities but the main problem is that creatures level as well, so that u can get killed by any creature when u r level 100. and especially when ur not walking on the world map. So if ur doing a mission and ur high level then u encounter enemies who r way stronger then u. I don't mean to offend any one but this is how I think about the game.

I agree with you; this is one of the things that make FF8 a mediocre FF game:o

Nah, I don't think it's a bad thing, it just keeps leveling up from being a black-and-white situation where one thing is good and the other is bad. It's like in FF7, where getting injured is in a way a good thing because it fills up the limit gauge. But you wouldn't say "FF7 is a bad game because you actually want your HP to get lowered", right?

Well thats why theres juntioning, if you get to 100, put an ultima or full-life in the hp box, that right there gives you 500+ Hp extra.

Junctioning is usefull but it is nesecary to surive, ur natural stats don't really increase much when u gain a level unlike in FF7. That what makes it a problem for me, u need high level magic to junction to gain some effects but u need the same high level magic on bosses and enemy's so that's why it doenst work for me. (I completed the game 5 times and FF7 about 34 times so u can see the difference here).

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">I liked FF8's system. It meant that you didn't have to spend ages fighting to level up if you were struggling with a certain part in the game. Other FF games would require that you level up to make them easier. In FF8 level doesn't matter; and it isn't too hard to get the magic you need for a good junction. In fact, the way that monster's HP increases at a quicker rate the more you level up, so it is easier to stay on lower levels. Drawing and refining magic for a good junction is fairly easy. Drawing can take quite a long time, but refining is a quick process.

Alternatively, you can try the no junctioning challenge; that is, to not junction a GF for the entire game. Basically you are only able to use physical attacks and limit breaks. With that, it seems like it's better to stay at low levels. I tried this and got to Fujin and Raijin on disc 2. Difficult.

Don't get me wrong, I really liked FF8 and I completed it several times. I'm not very fond of this junction stuff and the way ur dependant on ur GF's.

Uhmm, Last time I checked beating a monster of a higher level then you're party or the same level is a challenge right? Would you rather fight level 1 monsters if you are level 50 or so? Where's the fun of that?
I like the lvl up system a bit, good things are that it doesn't take ages to gain a level and be at 100 really quick. Also the monster stay strong most of the times and that only adds up to the challenge. ^_^
yea o_O

Well I like the System. I find it takes a ton more skill this way, rather that pure patience during level gaining.

Skill? Not when you can just totally annihilate pretty much any enemy with Quistis's Degenerator or Selphie's Rapture or The End, or Squall's Renzokuken for that matter. They made limit breaks *way* too easy to get.

I luv the level up thing and the junction system because it's different then ff7 and ff9 and all that it really hlps you alot when you can't level up anymore but one downside is that you can't carry more then 100 of the magic.

I don't see why anyone would need to carry more than 100 magic anyway. Unless it were for stat-boosting purposes, in which case, the game is too easy anyway to need to boost the stats even more.

why would you not want to gain levels? I mean it's not like it's hard or anything. The maximum amount of EXP you need to level up is 999. So easy.

I think that makes the game fun. There is a way to level up your GFs without levelling up your characters, thus making your GFs strong, and your enemies weak.

When you first go into Dollet, place all your GFs on Seifer.Kill squall and Zell, and fight only with Seifer.Your GFs will gain levels faster then he does,so your GFs will be level 100 in no time. :) :)

Well, if you are on level 100, the monsters suck, I was on level 100 and I went to Esthar and in three hits or two I just beat them up. I liked the junctioning alot cause you could put ur hp really high. I could also make my person really strong, so I liked the junctioning system, I was kinda disappointed on FF9 when they didnt include that system....

Junctioning sucks and Im glad 9 didnt have it. It made the game too easy.

Now Materia, theres a system I love.
