OP, I do not care about your topic, or even your existence for that matter. This message is intended for others who happen to read the thread.

You guys see why I keep harping on the point about the term RPG being used far too loosely and losing all meaning? Idiocy like this is why Pac-Man will one day be called an RPG.

Dude, Okami is NOT an RPG by any stretch of the definition.

I think it's coming out for the Wii soon so I may pick it up then. It looks like a great gem of a game - it certainly looks quite original and I really like the look of the art style.

I really don't think this is an rpg by any stretch, so moving this to general gaming, assuming there are no objections.

i just considered it an RPG because you get a type of Exp (praise points) that are used to upgrade stats. i am not objecting just saying.

Who cares? Honestly...

It's fun but in no way would I consider it an RPG either.

i am not the biggest RPG player around so i guess i am not very good at defining what makes an RPG just that. But Oblivion, now there is an RPG if i ever played one.

You'll never win this debate, sorry to say.

As for Pacman RPG....

saw a review for GrandiaIII on X-play, it got a 3 out of 5, Okami got a 5 out of 5 and game stop had it for $40 so i couldn't resist.

i played a demo of it once, it was ok but nothing special.

I'd say it was an Action platformer if anything.

nobody else will talk about it!

i have seen it about, but it is still a bit expensive for a ps2 game around here imo :/

I don't buy PS2 games anymore. I just either download it or rent it, burn the disc image, then play it.

An exp system does not automatically mean that it's an RPG, heck it's one of the least central elements of the genre.

Okami isn't an RPG, but an EXP system is essential to the modern definition of an RPG.
Sorry that language changes, guys.

some one should make a post defining the criterias of a RPG. it would help ppl from making stupid mistakes like the one i made.

You're in luck!

Prak started a thread (Thread 29666) devoted to just that: trying to define an RPG, which spawned an ongoing debate of sorts that kinda has ended since, to summarize, Prak is correct in saying the common definition of RPG isn't what the original, true RPGs are/were and that jRPGs like Final Fantasy should be renamed something other than RPG since it tarnishes the RPG name since they aren't true original RPGs.

I would argue that, while it's noble of Prak to attempt to salvage the name RPG, it's been used incorrectly for far too many years and has created its own genre (sometimes called jRPG, which is really enough of a difference) that if you only call true RPGs RPGs, you leave a large amount of game with incorrect titles.

But I don't really want to bring up this debate again because I don't think there's much to argue anymore and I shouldn't have brought it up anyways. :D

It's a stupid argument anyways. I mean seriously, who cares?
