I don't look too much into the games to be able to list which ones are the best or not.

All i can say is that Final fantasy 10 isn't my favorite but i enjoy playing through it from time to time.

The addition of voices in battles and cut scenes was nice. I don't remember if voices were used in the previous final fantasies, but this one had a decent amount. The battle system was new because there wasn't a meter at the bottom of the screen that had to fill up.

I found it pretty enjoyable

It is a constant battle between FF8 and FF10 for me, personally.

I've not completed 5 below, and don't think I'll ever get round to completing them either, not at least for a while, but out of the others..yeah.

FF10 is amazing because it is one of the only games in a series which actually stayed at least as good on a more powerful console.

I dont know... I just love FFX. It was my second experience with a Final Fantasy game. I played FF7 before I got into FFX, But it was a on PC and it was really crumy. When I played FFX on PS2, I fell inlove with it :P The graphics, the characters, and most of all, the story plot. I liked the battle system too... I pretty much liked everything about it! And the ending made me cry my eyes out! :P

Yeah... it's a lot better. There is a bigger sphere grid and also dark aeons plus penance... Dark Aeons gives a lot of thrill to the game... they are totally insane... and Anima's Oblivion deals 99,999 around 25 times... not just one like our version...

I loved the international version...a lot more than the one that I own now.

I think FFX is the best in the series i've played so far. I absolutely love that game

I've only actually 'finished' 7 and 10 though (played most of the others)

Why is it the best? I thought the story, music and characters were awesome esp the ending. In fact after I finished 7 I remember thinking why the hell do most people think THIS one is the best?? it still puzzles me to this day

are you kidding?? many people think it's the greatest game ever made, it has a whole cult following. you only have to look on the internet to see how many obsessed people rave on about that game. I thought it good but not as good as people make it out to be.

but anyway back to FFX i'm playing it for the 3rd time now using "expert" sphere grid still amazed how good the graphics are for a 5 year old game.

i like FFXII more than FFX. FFX is the only one i actually own though. I very much liked it but i like the battle system in 12 more. it is hard to start playing turn based battles like in this game when you spend 100+ hours playin TES4

Hmm I own 4 to 12 and the remake of 3 for the ds.

In all honesty i wasn't impressed with any of the games instantly besides 7 (since it was the first i played and i was a bit of a noob). They either grew on me or didn't grow on me.

10 being one of the ones that did.

9 is still my favourite though :)

Final Fantasy X was my favorite in the series though IX did rival it closely.

I'd have to say the main reason it's my favorite is the story..truely amazing..I couldn't get enough..great characters..so many great moments that make you just think to yourself "wow"..especially the ending. (ultra sad)

The level up system was different..though my first time through the game I had some difficulties with it..it grew on me and I learned to love it.

combat was flawless..enough said.

I really liked the monster arena in the Calm Lands..it was really fun running around and capturing monsters..The other time wasters/mini games were cool too though I really didn't get blitzball lol.

I don't judge games by their graphics so that didn't have an affect on my experience through the game.

yep, great game! Meh favorite! 10/10

FFX was my first final fantasy it it led me to play the others in the cannon of the series(meaning 1-12/minus 11 and plus tactics). At first the leveling was really confusing but once i got my head around it i found it to be a rather entertaining way of leveling up. The story was great it was sad and throughout the entire game you felt a sense of emending doom yet you felt a feeling of hope that everything was worth it. All in all FFX is my fav Final Fantasy:)

I don't have to make a list of what I don't find bad!

As for the PC issue, I could theoretically install YDL on my PS3 so it'd be like a mini PC for basic functions (YDL only utilizes 256mb of RAM), but then I'd have to partition my HDD. But doing that means I need to format it, and you all know what formatting does!

Heh, to each his own. I absolutely love the optimistic, cheerful, playful, happy-go-lucky character a.k.a. Rikku. You should always have a character like that in a team to lighten the mood, especially in the melancholic tone of the story (which is really a good thing). This game was the best on so many levels. First, when it was your turn it was your turn...you weren't going to be attacked in the meantime while choosing what you wanted to do. You might lost a little bit of realism there but i like it that way, as you could create a battle plan that would work quite well. The sphere grid system rocked, the sky was the limit with that thing. Not only that the storyline was so amazing i was always captivated.

FFX is the best Final Fantasy. Ever. No questions asked.

The storyline was just epic, the characters so memorable. I've never been into an RPG so much like in FFX. Nearly everything is perfect. And of course - the best battlesystem seen in any FF. FFXII battle system sucks when compared to FFX. Awesome flexibility and room to use strategy makes this one hell of a system, which should be used by other RPGs. I've played this game over 250 hours and I can easily say it's the best. FFVII is overrated.

I really like X but I think Tidus nearly ruined the game. He's got to be one of the most annoying characters in a video game. All his reactions to very much anything are unbelievable/unrealistic. I couldn't relate to him at all. His character doesn't moves beyond the childish carefree bliztball player we meet at the start of the game.

Final fantasy X the best, thats laughable.
The story is linear, at least 7 had dozens of twists and turns. you got to go into space, chase huge materia, get thrown out of golden saucer, vincent, wutai, aeriths story kept it interesting. 8 had a massive twist after you get screwed by edea and stayed exciting after u escape the prison (granted time travelling sucked) but i cant fault most of the story that has nothing to do with time travel.

10, you had corrupt religion (most exploited basis for a story ever), summoning turns out to be spirits taken from living (also fairly obvious), racial prejudice (well that one will always have large battles, then finally the racists will depend on them). you get an airship when theirs NOTHING to do and specific locations to go to.

I thought it was great mainly because of the plot. It was very inventive and well-thought out. The game play was indeed a little boring, but it didn't matter to me because I like strategic games. Also, there was just enough side quests to conquer, unlike some previous final fantasy games that contained so many hidden treasures that you couldn't keep track of them all. Btw, Lulu's breasts jiggling at the end of every battle was also a very nice aspect of the game, ;)

HERESY!!! KILL THE HERETIC!!

Now that I've calmed down... I just can't understand the appeal of a game, where the main character looks like a poster child for the surfing culture, wields a sword made out of water and whines like a little bitch. The other characters were mediocre at best (with three exceptions imo, Auron, Lulu and Kimahri) and I was unable to form any attachment to any of them, the story had nothing to really reach out and grab my attention and the music was let down imo, by the rock feel to some of the tracks. The leveling system via that Sphere Grid thing was a joke, as you could make any character GOD POWERFUL, which made it too damn easy.

... and don't get me started on the whole Blitzball piece of shit mini game...

Smarty

As far as story goes, I can enjoy it some extent only because it's one of the few FF's that I played when I was way younger. You can understand how a Final Fantasy can be more appealing to a child. But besides it's really not THAT bad. The voice acting was ok I guess, and the characters had some backstory and appeal to them. Yes even Tidus.

The battle system is what sets it apart from other games, which is something I quite enjoy actually. The fully-turned based system gives it a more strategic feel. The Sphere Grid isn't what makes the game easy. If you're using the normal sphere grid it would be no different than a normal Level Up system, since pretty much the entire way is blocked by lock spheres. What makes it easy is the enemies themselves (too weak most of the time and require very little startegy) and because of the fact you see when they get a turn. You can arrange everything perfectly. That's why it's easy imo.

As far as blitzball it was pretty much a chore to play it enough to get Wakka's Ultimate Weapon, but a casual game wasn't so bad.

Okay, I'm sooooo coming to your next birthday party dressed as Tidus :D Wouldn't that just make your day bro? :D

But seriously, I did think it seemed a bit strange that Tidus, this total sports-goer, is as skilled with a blade as he is. I mean, I guess swinging as swird isn't exactly rocket science, but Tidus doesn't seem the fighter type to me. Never did. And his shoes do kinda look like clown shoes. Other than that, I loved everything about the game :D And the Sphere Grid, I found to be pretty neat. Well, once I understood how it worked, that is.

Also, I thought it was STUUUUUUUUUUPIDDDDDD that they never speak Tidus' name. Why rename a character in a voice-acted game?! Why?!?!?! Totally pointless. Hell, why rename characters at all? In a MMO I can understand, but a game where their names are already chosen? Just baffles me. Well, maybe it's a good thing, cuz then I would've had to hear "TEE-DUS this, TEE-DUS that, TEE-DUS this, TEE-DUS that", when it's fucking TIE-DUS, goddammit!!! Damn Kingdom Hearts! And I've never even played it! I'll forever call him TIE-DUS! And that's my final answer! :D

He was just waving his sword of water around aimlessly hoping it smacked a enemy imo. His shoes look like a clown's? He was a clown, comic relief.

I still stand by what I said about the Sphere Grid. I can understand SE trying to make leveling more player oriented, level the characters how you want to, but it was too annoying for me.

Because SE are idiots? Being able to change the name of one of the main characters in a voice acted game is lame and pathetic. Considering how SE's games have been lately though (The Last Remnant and Star Ocean The Last Hope come to mind), SE is losing touch with RPG's and games in general. But that's just my opinion.

Yea, his shoes stuck out like a sore thumb to me, and I always thought the only thing missing was a Ronald McDonald wig. LOL! Nah, other than the shoes, I thought Tidus' design was alright. But man, I gotta agree with you that SE is losing their touch; they don't make these games anywhere near the way they used to. FFIV and FFVI were HUGE for good reason; they didn't try to emulate a movie all the while having shit gameplay (I'm referring of course to this new FFXIII which has all my hopes in SE crushed) but instead they had memorable characters, scenes full of emotion, engaging gameplay, fun, innovative battle elements, and just a ton of cool sidequests to keep you interested for hours. The first three didn't have nearly enough sidequests; while fun, they were clearly the icing on the cake before IV and VI. And you know what's cool? IV and VI did all the above with tiny, deformed sprites, pixely terrain, and cartoonish enemies (FFIV mostly) but it all worked so wondrously that no one cared. Now, VII - XII are all far more cinematic and each successive game becomes all the more realistic and heightens things even further, but they still contain that certain charm to them; each one is unique, but memorable in its own way. I realize I never mentioned V, not meaning to ignore it, but I hold it in the same esteem. All SE seems to want to do is milk their whole franchise for everything it's worth. Sure, games like Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus and Dissidia are cool and all that, but storywise all they do is rehash the series' protagonists and antagonists. The company is seriously running out of ideas, and are just redressing-up all their characters time and again to keep us happy while they drudge up something half-baked, not even worth it to play. Yes, XIII has smashed all my hopes about them. It looks amazing, yes, but . . . well, I'm just going in circles now. All in all, I'm sure I'll wind up playing XIII (long as I have a friend who decides to buy it), but as of right now I'm with Neg and many others; I'm not bothering with it.

You know I've never talked about X here before, but in all honesty I don't know what to say about it. I guess some of the music is kind of cool, I can tell Uematsu was trying for a more atmospheric direction with some of them. Although I would definitely pick "Fog Enshrouded Nightscape" or "Dark Palace of Waterfalls" over "Silence Before The Storm" or "Wandering Flame." As for the rest of the game... what is there to say that hasn't already been said from both good and bad aspects. The characters are hit & miss, the story was kind of interesting to me at one point but now I've gone too far into the depths of hell to want to replay something light hearted again. While I will admit, I've never been an overly huge RPG game follower of any sort outside of a few Final Fantasy games, Rogue Galaxy and Super Mario Legend of Seven Stars and that's about it, so I can't really judge much on the gameplay compared to other RPG games. I'm more of a first person shooter, action adventure expert. There was one thing that did bother me about the game as mentioned above, is Tidus. Why the hell do they give you the option to change his name? One of the main characters in the game and he's the only one to have the option to change his name, which first of all makes no sense and makes it annoying because the rest of the characters constantly refer to Tidus as a pronoun and never mention his name. Then again I have heard if they did it would've been pronounced Tee-dus instead of Tie-dus, which again would've bothered me.

LOL! His voice can be annoying, although I think it fits his character. However, there were many times when he sure seemed a little too naive and childish for my tastes :O Just made him more likable by the end, I thought :D

That doesn't mean I have to like him. I remember him voicing Leonardo from the 1980's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as well as the original VA for Kaneda in Akira. Those are the only two roles he did I could stomach.

Ryudo in Grandia II, Zhou Yu, Chen Ji and others in Kessen II as well as other games... gods, I HATED his voice acting of those characters.

A large cast of characters who all play an important role, few have the background. The story flows wonderfully. steam punk environment works perfectly. It is probably the best game music.

my favorite has to be VIII. X is the close second though. I still nostalgia every time I put it in.

and in regards to the previous discussion, I didn't mind Tidus' voice that much. sure, it could be a bit grating at times, but it didn't not fit the character.

I really lol'd when I saw this because you're absolutely right. Since FFIX, all Final Fantasy games have become slower. FFX took forever to play Yuna, FFX-2 took forever to get interesting, FFXI takes forever to get ANYTHING done, FFXII took forever for the story to progress, FFXIII took forever to get the full battle system and capabilities, and lastly FFXIV will take forever to get mediocre.

I see a trend happening. FFX was their last Final Fantasy title before the Enix merge, however you didn't seem to notice the time go by as you played that instalment.

Soon they'll be CapSquareTriNamcoAceEnixCom. >.>

I've said this before, but I totally wish they put the Dark Aeons and Expert Sphere grid in the North American version, so there would actually be a reason to max out your characters' stats. But it's still a fun game.

at least 7 had dozens of twists and turns. you got to go into space, chase huge materia, get thrown out of golden saucer, vincent, wutai, aeriths story kept it interesting. 8 had a massive twist after you get screwed by edea and stayed exciting after u escape the prison (granted time travelling sucked) but i cant fault most of the story that has nothing to do with time travel.
Are you kidding me? Final Fantasy X has heaps of plot twists. Namely, the main character being merely a dream. That's like Cloud admitting his sword is too big and he should get something more usable in battle.

10, you had corrupt religion (most exploited basis for a story ever),
And an evil corporation is so original, right?

you get an airship when theirs NOTHING to do and specific locations to go to.
Have you seriously got that far in the game? Omega Ruins? Magus Sisters? Dark Aeons? All of which take a fair amount of time.

Yes. To me it is.

And first, I want to make clear that this was the SECOND FF game I ever had.
The first one was FFX-2, but that didn't really make me happy...

Anyway...Let's start.
I like it. Full of sad and wistful happenings and melancholy atmosphere.
Just like the soundtrack too.
There isn't that many plot twists and some of them are really predictable, like the final aeon,
but it's the quality of them that covers the amount nicely.
For example, Tidus being a dream. The ending is suposed to be happy and it is,
but there's still the feeling of sorrow, that Spira was full of before.
Wistfull feelings indeed.

I also like the fact that there is that much voice acting, that could have done before too.
Then again, it wouldn't hawe been the best choice, if it would have done in the same way like Silen Hills.
Don't get me wrong the way I'm saying these things, though. But back to FF X

I like the characters too. Many people consider Tidus to be annoying as hell, but I don't mind him that much.
In fact, there's only one or two parts in the game I wish he'd be quiet and not say the sentence he did.
The rest of the cast is perfect too and they play absolutely nice together.
Best way to show this is the thunderplains, where Rikku tells she hates lightning and a minute later Wakka goes: Wow, that was a close one, hahahahaha...!
And later Auron giving up when they rest at the thunder plains.
They really do play nicely together. Energetic teen whos used to be the center, A little nave, shy summoner who still can be quite forcefull if she wants.
A goofy X-coach, A black mage who can be both cold and nice, a silent loveable cat figure, silent callminded warrior and an ADHD teenage girl.
Just count in the "F@ck, we so rule!" -badguys and we have awesome, though pretty clisheish and lot used character cast.
Then again, why to change the old code if it works?

I gotta say something 'bout the world of Spira too. It looks just so beautiful, being a dream land lookish.
...Meh...I used that one at random, but gotta admit that it was kinda ironic way to put it...
It's just...I can't describe my feelings of it. It has everything from snowy mountains to warm beaches.
From ancien ruins to modern cities. And in my taste, it's done well better than before.

The only thing I don't really like this game is the minigames.
Chocobo run I've done only to get some stuff and I don't play that much Blitz either.
I've never been that fan of sports, so those don't really interest my that much.
The only motivation I have for them is to to get the Wakkas...Was it sigil or the crest again? Well you know.

I also like the new character "level up" -system.
Sure they end up being same in the end, but I don't mind that much.
Just as long I hawe fun, it's made it's job, right?

To sum this up, it is the best game to me with some help being the first FF games I've had.
I have to admit that when I bought the FF 8, it did climb up pretty high, but the nostalgia kept X higher.
To me,, this is just THE Final Fantasy game.

If you really think X is the best, vote for it on GameFAQs.com right now! It only needs about 270+ votes to overcome The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask in the Game of the Decade contest and it's in the semifinals! Just one last push to get it to the finals where it deserves a shot at Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

Majora's Mask does not deserve to be game of the decade and neither does FFX. That would be totally unfair to all the other equally amazing games out there.

I like FFX slightly more than ff9,and that is after ff4 and ff6.

FF4 still holds massive nostalgia towards me because it was my second rpg and ff1 being my first and i still love both to death.

I think FFX is a good game and miss square since all enix did was ruin everything.

Even if the plot is really predictable and the characters are annoying, I really think that the battle system is one of the best (it might be my favorite) and that Uematsu created the best music for any FF title. Not necessarily the Rammstein-esque song that plays in the beginning, but the endless variety and range of expression, such as in the way the Prayer of the Fayth changes throughout the game and how it becomes incorporated in other pieces. I actually didn't really like Suteki Da Ne, because I felt that the depth of emotion expressed simply in the instrumental songs was vastly superior to it. And the different versions composed for the piano goes to show how Uematsu could compose music with so much potential in exploring the moods and emotions, as well as their contrasts, in the pieces. Via Purifico (Path of Repentence) might have been the song that made me want to get back to playing the piano after leaving it for four years. And yeah, I know I'm harping on the music, but it has an incalculably significant impact on the game itself.

yup I agree the soundtrack is simply stunning. Nobuo Uematsu did a hell of a job in FF VII, VIII, and imo especially in IX and X. Songs from both games like The Skies Above, Via Purifico, Loss of Me, You're not Alone, Cleyra's Settlement, Assault of the White Dragons and Those Whom I Must Protect are simply reason to play again both games, they're perfect

Final Fantasy X is one of my favourites and it comes close to being the best for me but why? Well, I'm not honestly sure. I loved the music, graphics, characters, battle system and so on. Everything just suited me! I've played the game over and over for many years now and I guess some people could just say that I'm being biased or sentimental but there is just something very special about FFX for me. It's got this magic feel to it for being a timeless classic for my amusement.
