i own 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 10-2 and i was wondering if 12 was worth buying because i've read about the storyline maybe being a bit boring and there was no love? my favourite was 10, so would i like 12? thanks!

You are correct that there is no central "love" storyline. And many have complained that the game is boring.

Three thoughts:

1. There's at least one other thread related to this matter on the first page of posts. I recommend reading it.
2. Try renting it if you're not sure you'll like it. That is, if it's still available for rent in stores. I'm not sure.
3. Just buy it. I think the standard price is only something like $20 now, not the $50 it was when it came out. And you may be able to find it even cheaper used.

Final Fantasy XII is almost the anti-FFX. It's pretty hard to say whether you'll like it, but if you're expecting anything that's even remotely like FFX, you'll no doubt be disapointed.

i think i'm gonna get it! do you guys like it as much as the others?

I think it's better then the vast majority of them but I have to emphasis once again that's it's pretty different. The style is more like Final Fantasy Tactics or Vagrant Story then it is any of the main FF games.

Do we like it? Yes and no, in many cases. I liked it reasonably well when I first played it, though was disappointed with certain aspects. Also, I don't feel it has much replay value. But would I say it's worth playing at least once? Yes.

Its better than some of the other games because it introduces a brand nw battlee system (which is fantastic in my opinion) among other things, on the other hand though the storyline trully sucks and some of the charcters are really irritating

Surely not. I've seen it more than once being offered for $20. There's nothing cheaper anywhere?

Well, anyway, $20 is dirt cheap compared to what it first sold for, and it's only been out for a little more than a year. It's really a bargain now, so there's no reason not to play it.

Amazon, which is a really good site, is offering $19.99 standard price, plus shipping. Howver, its associated third-party sellers are offering it from $11.48 plus shipping. The lowest price for a new copy is $14.21 plus shipping from a seller. Another is offering "Used / Very Good" for $11.48, and another "Used / Like New" for $11.49.

I bought my copy back near or around the end of November for $19.99(plus sales tax) at a Kmart in Ohio.

Whereabouts in Ohio? I hit the nearby Ohio K-Mart about once every two weeks. :)

In my opinion, ffxii is one of the best final fantasy games in the entire series. I wouldn't say it's boring; it's definitely a lot different than the other ff games. This one is a lot more futuristic(I haven't played all ff games, but I believe for this game that is true) and I actually find [most of] the characters memorable, even more than for example, ffvii. If you don't like the battle system, then you'll probably find the game boring. I noticed that the dungeons/bosses/enemies are a lot harder in ffxii then in previous ff games.

Anyway, I say go for it. You [hopefully] won't be disappointed. This is actually my favorite ff game out of the entire series so far.

the story was really boring,i'm not complaining about that there's whether love or not, from the very start you've been given permission to travel the whole world, and you can always go back to your HQ Rabanastre.

the characters, all human beings(well Fran isnt),I just hope there's one or two creature thing character in the party, like IX.

and the equipments,i just dont get it,why interchangable?you can make your party an infantry,an archery, and even bombards?every character should have their own function, right?

anyway that battle system is great ,too, but I still wish Squaresoft could change that system back to the traditional one

^^^I was actually getting tired of the old battle systems. At least in ffxii, you can see the enemies you're going to fight. In pre-ffxii games it's just...walk around on a map until you get a random encounter. The ffxii battle system does take some time getting used to. At first, I didn't even like it. But once you get the hang of it, I actually like it better than the old battle system.

Regarding functions....that's the whole point of interchangeable equipment. It's *you* that get to decide who and what you're characters will be. Some of the characters are hinted at with their functions. For example, Penelo has some of the highest MP in the game( I believe she has the highest, at least in my game she does) so she would naturally be a good white/black mage type character. I believe in Revenant Wings for the DS, the ffxii characters have set job functions, like Ashe is a time mage and Balthier is a gunner.

Yes, Fran is the only non-human playable character. But look at all the other races that are in ffxii. It has more diversity than any other ff game.

I guess depending on your tastes, the story can be "boring." I just find it maybe slow-paced but definitely not boring.

the storyline,i mean
first u go west to the raithwall, next south to that miriam, then north to archades, then east to pharos, finally the center rabanastre
i just want to say is,i dont actually like this kind of lay out

for battle system,i think old system for encounter battles and the new system for boss battles, combining may be a good idea, though

Ugh, I hate random encounter battles. At least in XII you can see when your next battle's coming.

Also, how would you combine the battle systems - you couldn't just have two totally different systems for normal and boss encounters. It would be extremely confusing to be able to run round and fight a boss, but then have to use ATB or something similar to fight normal enemies. I'm not ruling out your idea, I'm just wondering how it might be done.

wow. $20? damn. i'd say buy it also. i wasn't too impressed with the story or even the characters, but the battle system is pretty damn fun. hmmm, and concerning the boss battle/normal enemy battle battle system switch off. that might be interesting, but i'd prefer just the opposite than what you said. Boss Battle - ATB. Normal Enemies - FFXII style. can't stand random encounter battles anymore. ha, i don't know how it could be done, but it would indeed be interesting.

That is almost exactly what i was going to write.

I feel that the battle system could have been better, even though it's certainly possible to avoid battling monsters, it's not actually easy. You will find nothing is actually slower than your party and therefore can only lose an enemy that has spotted you by leaving the area altogether. And sometimes it's quite a trek.

Boshing the same enemies over and over is annoying like any other final fantasy game, so the new battle system didn't fix that, and you'll most likely resort to using only physical attacks.

Yeah the plot left me feeling a little underwhelmed, i was actually expecting something a little more epic, since most games are about saving the world. However it's nice to see a change in storyline.
