Not wanting to go off magazine reviews and such....is FFXII any good? I've heard so many different opinions that I have yet to even try the game.

Honestly, I loved FFX, but FFX-2..err...and FFXI I left alone because I never was much for MMORPG's.

In my opinion, the FF series has taken a downfall since I started with the ones on SNES. So from one gamer to another, FFXII...yay or nay?

Rent it. Plain and simple. Because there are so many different opinions, you really need to form your own.

Well, you do need to make your own opinion of it, but here's mine.

I'm addicted. Bought it 3 days ago, and put in at least 5 hours a day. It started out and I didn't really like it, but at the mark of around 4 hours, I started to really get the hang of it, and really get into the game.

I agree, go rent it and see if you like it.

This is complete and utter bullshit. I know it comes from simple ignorance and you don't mean any harm by it, but it's still totally wrong. If you know precisely what questions to ask and can get truthful answers from people, you can easily figure out if something is for you or not without having to risk wasting any money at all.

Of course, he hasn't asked any particular questions about it yet, so it's not like there's anything I can contribute at this point.

I have a question; Why are you so angry and/or negative?

Just offer simple advice without being hostile, especially if it's just at someone's ignorance. If someone is actually just being stupid and unable to contain proper thought, then go ahead and be an ass about things. But negativity towards ignorance discourages learning, which in turn causes more ignorance.

I havent played any other FF to any extent other than FF-X. That one had turn based combat, random battles etc.

I thought that was how this one was, but I was wrong, from the first battle I was iffy if I wanted to keep playing it. I did now im about 15 hours into the game my chars are about lvl 20-25 because instead of pushing forward I found that the mines im in are awsome to lvl up in. I even got a 105 chain before I broke it to go save. Im loving it the more I play.

Your reading comprehension skills seem to be a bit lacking. A forceful statement is not the same as hostility, and Knegative, I'm sure, knows that I was not conveying any sort of insult.

Anyway, the point of my post was not so much to denounce the absurd idea that you have to play the game to find out if you'll like it, but to encourage the OP to ask specific questions about it.

Depends.

This game kind of has the single player MMORPG feel. This can either be a good thing or a bad thing. I liked the battle system. I disliked the Gambit system. Sure you can configure your actions the way you like, but it takes away the part where you input commands and all that. The system itself was good, but all you really had to do during fights was press x to open containers and use the analog stick to where you wanted to go.

The story was okay. It wasn't bad, to be sure. It wasn't great either however. It was enjoyable and had good moments. There aren't any major plotholes, and overall the story is nice and pretty good to follow.

Now, a part where the opinions really are divided. Personally I loved the music. It was very atmospheric and apropiate to the many locations of the game. I highly enjoyed it, and sometimes stopped playing to listen.

The random element of the game can just drive you nuts. Especially if you are playing for the first time and aren't using any guides. You need to figure out which items to sell and which items at the same time in whatever quatities. The worst part is, the absolute rarity if these items. Or the dreaded Zodiac Spear that requires you not to open chests. There's more like this in the game and it'll ruin your game experience if you let it bother you.

The Espers. Personally I think the system is so-so. You lose your party members during a summon except the summoner. The other two party memberse are replaced by your summon. I think they should have been alot stronger, because they have almost no place in battle in the end of the game. There have been alot of debates going on about how they didn't look like the previous summons of the FF series. I liked the Espers. There used to be devine beings (read in game to learn more) so I find their forms and looks fitting.

Quickenings. I think it is safe to call this the limit system of the game. They are rather powerful early on in the game and will last you to mid game quite nicely. After that they lose much of their value. Point is, it can be childishly easy to defeat bosses with them. If you want more of a challenge, don't use them.

The game has quite alot to offer when it comes to various side-quests and a pretty neat mini game.

All in all it's a good game, but it's nothing spectacular. I really enjoyed playing this game all three times all the way through.

It's not an insult to call what she says, "...complete and utter bullshit"?

I disagree. Whatever though, I'm not going to get into an argument over the internet with you over something like this, just thought I'd try to help. Not willing to take advice? That's perfectly okay. I don't care that much.

Rent it or borrow it from a friend if you're cheap or frugal. Then if you have a DS you could try Revanant Wings. I got it for X-mas and so far it's okay sort of like FFTA, maybe not for everyone though.

I think Neo Xzhan offers a fairly good summary. My thoughts are as follows: I didn't like it at first, but to its credit, the plot comes on well in the last 20% or so of the game. The gameplay is a lot more fluent and a lot less repetitive than other games in the series, the graphics are great, and there is probably more optional content than in any other FF game, bar FFX-2, which was designed to allow you to opt out of over 60% of the plot. The difficulty level is also quite refreshing in that normal enemies will challenge you pretty seriously as well as just the odd boss or optional hunt.

That's the strengths of the game. The main weaknesses are the Espers and Quickenings, which are overpowered at first but become almost obsolete later on (especially Espers), the Licence Board, which is horrendously open to abuse, and a few main characters that don't really have that much to do with the story.

I just wanted to have him make up his own mind about the game, and I offered him a way in which I am accustomed to making decisions. If my statement made it sound as if renting a game is the only way to form said opinion (in the absence of reviews, as specified by Bus Driver), I apologize.

I didn't want him getting responses like "It si awesome" or "It is teh suck." :p

Y/nay. I really enjoyed quite a few aspects of the game when I played it, but on the same token, haven't felt at all inclined to touch it in months.

It doesn't have a whole lot of replay value. But Neo Xzhan summed it up nicely, so this post is pointless. Oh noes.
