Who here plays Tactics Ogre? Whether it be the one for SNES, N64, Playstation (LUCT) or GBA.

I have the PSX and GBA versions. I love the PSX version like, crazy.

If you don't know what it is, it's like Final Fantasy Tactics. Only it was there first. It's probably one of the best Strategy RPG's you'll ever play, if not, the best.

Who wants to discuss this beautiful game? I have a forum dedicated to it as well. (check my sig)

Let's talk about the Ogre Battle Saga!

I know all about it. The only Ogre game I played was Ogre Battle for Snes, it was great! I'd like to play more of them but before I do I want to beat all the Ivalice games.

Yasumi Matsuno's team made five games and only five games. These five games had almost all the same people working on them. The games are...

Ogre Battle
Tactics Ogre
Final Fantasy Tactics
Vagrant Story
Final Fantasy XII

Also, there are extra Ogre and Ivalice games which are made by seperate teams with only some help from some of Yasumi Matsuno people.

Extra Ogre games:
Ogre Battle 64
Ogre Battle Gaiden
Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis

Extra Ivalice games:
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
Final Fantasy Tactics A2

Also, some of the games I listed have had remakes. I don't think any Ogre game will be made again. I wonder what Yasumi Matsuno is up to? My #1 team I like is the main Final Fantasy team. My #2 "team" I like is any game set in Ivalice, although I also like Ogre Battle some.

How strange! Just today I started playing the GBA tactics ogre again. It is a very good game. It may be my favourite tactics game ever.

He's making an RPG with Monolith Soft for the Wii.

I played Tactics Orge for a while. It was alright but having played Final Fantasy Tactics first it was hard going back to a game that was basically the same but not as good.

EDIT: Actually. the Matsuno thing may have been partially a rumor come to think of it. I remember reading something about it ages ago, but the only source anyone could come up with was from a gaming magazine. Although he is definitely developing a game for the Wii (http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q3-2006/092106e.html), Monolith Soft's involvement hasn't been confirmed anywhere else.

Interesting you say Tactics Ogre is not as good. In Japan people love this game and it's ranked like the 7th best game ever from Famitsu's reader poll in March 2006. FF Tactics is low in the top 100. This is interesting because in USA people didn't play much of Tactics Ogre but they loved Final Fantasy Tactics. Why the regional differences?

Can we include Ivalice games in this thread or only Ogre games? :D

The Famitsu list had some pretty questionable choices. No matter how much people like Final Fantasy X I doubt there are many who would say it was the best RPG of all time, let alone the best game of all time as it was ranked in Famitsu. I generally take Japan's opinion on games with a grain of salt.

Well, it's from Japan. Japanese have different preferences than people in America. In Japan, they voted using the top video game Famitsu, for their favorite game ever in history, they chose Final Fantasy X. As far as Japan goes, Final Fantasy X is one of the most popular games ever, and in that poll, they ended up winning that competition for Japan. I'm not sure why you say that there are not many who would say it's the best rpg of all time, when it won the Famitsu reader poll. Do you mean specifically for Usa? That poll is for Japanese readers only.

As far as United States go, we have seperate polls. I think the game that wins more often for best game ever is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Is there any type of list that shows different polls in magazines and websites over the years for best game of all time and best rpg of all time, and for different years/times? Final Fantasy VII has won a few of these polls for top RPG ever. :)

American gaming magazines run top game polls every so often. It's generally won by something that was generally revolutionary, like Super Mario Bros. I think IGN ran one recently, but I never bothered to read it.

I'd like to research some of these top polls. There was one actually where they listed the top rpg's and Final Fantasy VI won~!! That's my favorite game. Super Mario Bros has won before. Ign, Gamespot, and Gamespy are top Usa game websites. For rpg's there is Rpgamer. There are many magazines though. I will research.

Tactics Ogre for the PSX was amazing, it was real similiar to FFTactics. It was the Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together.

What are the main differences between Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics?

I've beaten Final Fantasy Tactics for the Playstation 1, it's my 6th favorite game. I never played the new PSP version, but I'm getting it early next year. The only playing time I have for Tactics Ogre is playing the Japanese version of the Snes rom on an emulator, but for less than ten minutes since I can't understand Japanese. Tactics Ogre wasn't released in Usa for Snes and there isn't a English Snes translation rom since it came out in Usa for PS 1 instead.

Final Fantasy Tactics is my 6th favorite game, and it's one of six games I've given perfect scores to. Tactics Ogre, from what I've played, seemed great. :D

There are different Job systems, Tactics Ogre has a more political and deeper story, and some minor differences in the way things are equipped and the order of battle sequences and stuff. Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together is a bit harder and requires more thought (I think so at least) than FFT. However, the GBA version of Tactics Ogre (The Knight of Lodis) isn't Tactics Ogre in it's best form. It's too easy, and the story and seriousness is a little bit dumbed down. Still a great game, nonetheless.

I personally like TO:LUCT a bit more than FFT.

I'll play Tactics Ogre eventually. What about Ogre Battle, Ogre Battle 64, and Ogre Battle Gaiden? There are five Ogre games.

Let us Cling together is definitely the best Ogre game hands down. The Tactics Ogre for GBA is pretty good too. I love FFTactics, i can respect someone thinking LUCT is better than Tactics, but Tactics just has that special spot cuz it was my first style game like that haha.

ahem, yes very 'cool'.

I would love to get my hands on a copy of LUCT, it is just as hard to find as the early Suikoden games.
