Ok, so I'm getting my very own Wii soon. I need some recommendations from you guys who know the Wii much more than I do.

Here is my games-to-get list:

1. Resident Evil 4
2. Super Mario Galaxy
3. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
4. Mario Kart Wii

If there's any games you know that should be on the list, feel free to add it.

Also, are there any good games on the Wii that is not Mario-related, and not RE4? You know, more like on the RPG side. I'm a sucker for RPG ;(

Brawl when it comes out. I guess it depends though when you get your wii. Brawl is almost certain to be a great game.

And you should have twilight princess on that list already. How could you forget, it was the greatest game to play when the Wii just came out. Unless of course you don't like the LOZ series, then thats okay.

I kind of liked red steel also. It had poor graphics but I didn't mind. the two player was kind of bad also. And the sensitivity of the wiimote is frustrating at times. I recommend it even though you probably won't like it.

Haha, ok I was really planning to put Twilight Princess on the list because it was recommended to me before, and I heard it's good. However, the friend(not here in ffshrine. in my school lol) who recommended me the game was a complete jerk to me so I thought, "I won't listen to this guy."

But ok, I'll put Twilight Princess on my list just because the stars of ffshrine told me to.

And also Nights - I've read about this game. It comes out on December!

Mario Kart doesn't come out until Spring next year but it'll probably be good.

Super Mario Galaxy is great. Metriod Prime 3 is a lot of fun too but shouldn't be high priority I don't think. Twilight Princess is about the same as MP3 for me, but I do think I liked it more and it had way more length.

I wouldn't bother with GHIII. Personally, I'd rather get Zack & Wiki and Trauma Center: New Blood for the same price.

StarryniteTrist
11-24-2007, 04:11 PM
Nights seems interesting though several of the "hands-on" made mention of a few flaws, so I would wait until full reviews are out, before suggesting that one.

Trauma Center: new Blood could be nice, but a few of the missions become extremely hard if not impossible later on and the game really relies on your memory, so if you want to challenge your memory at remember all those techniques and then carrying them out with speed and precision, then thats your game.

Finally, I would suggest, Umbrella Chronicles if you are a Resident Evil Fan.

I have one question though:

Are the controls easy to get used to for these games you guys mentioned?
That's one thing I'm worried about. =(

Neg

I can't speak to a lot of the ones mentioned (I don't have them :erm:), but the controls for Twilight Princess are ACE. The classic weapons you acquire have been transfered to the control scheme beautifully.

The boomerang, Hero's Bow, and Clawshot (hookshot) are amazingly fun to use. I didn't think they could improve on them, but the boomerang in Phantom Hourglass (for DS) is just as fun if not MORE.

You'll be a little sloppy at first, but once you get the hang of them you won't even think about it, and you'll feel like you're more precise than ever.

One of my gripes has always been the random shaking of the Wiimote to initiate swordplay. In Twilight Princess it's perfectly serviceable, but some of the "lesser" games on the console suffer greatly for it. I actually ended up liking the Spiderman 3 melee controls better than TP. I know that sounds ridiculous, but in that game, combos are based on exact movements. You move it back and forth a specified number of times to execute them. I liked that it was quantitative and discrete.

Trauma center requires a bit of ingenuity in the controls, such as turn and twisting

Ah galaxy is a bit easy to control, i got dizzy

The controls for Wii games are generally always terrific unless you're playing some horrible third party game. The best controls so far are in MP3 though, in my opinion. I haven't played Galaxy, however, so that might change very soon.

Wattson

Galaxy has fine controls but the camera is far from perfect and often leads to accidental deaths and such... but that isn't a big deal since the game gives you extra lives around every corner.

Twilight Princess is a must-own. Period. It's that good.

I have Metroid Prime 3, and I love it. Granted, I'm a bit of a Metroid fanboy, so I might be a little biased, but so far (I'm not that far into it yet), it's the best of the three Primes.

Super Mario Strikers Charged is fun, too, especially if you get a few friends to play it with. The internet play has very little lag, and if you get a few Friend Codes, you won't have to deal with obnoxious jerkoffs.

I'm not a Guitar Hero fan, so I'm not going to talk about that, but I've read very good things about Zack and Wiki. It's on my Xmas list, as well as Super Mario Galaxy and a couple others I can't think of off the top of my head.

11-26-2007, 06:43 PM
Zack & Wiki is fairly good. The graphics are nice, but the characters are intended to be for younger audiences.

Super Paper Mario is awesome. The 2D-3D switch element is ingenious. It's also incredibly funny and has an excellent script. You get to play as Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and Peach.

WarioWare Smooth Moves should also be on your list, if not for the fact that it makes for one crazy night of multiplayer action. Some critics claim that the directions on how to hold the Wii remote are unclear, but I've never had troubles with it. All of the minigames are intense and very fun.

Mercury Meltdown Revolution is the best budget game out there. It's practically the same game as was released on the PSP and PS2, only with additional features and the easier controls. You freeze, heat, split, and color your blob of mercury to beat a level. This is not an easy game, but it's good fun for $10-20.

GI gave FF VIII a 9.5 when it was released, and in the retro score this month they didn't change it, AT ALL.

I've lost a lot of respect for them, even if I do love VIII. Also, Joe insulted both Selphie and Penelo in that very issue

Objectively and subjectively, I am rather upset with them.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympics is fairly decent, some of the events are pointless in regards to the way you control but if you get over that and the fact that the characters can eventually keep repeating the same voice clips, it will be a fairly nice game to play WITH Others, the single player is tragically boring.

Too bad you have to actually play Single Player to get anything out of Multiplayer.

It was originally developed for GC, yes.

Wii controls were added after the decision to release it on that system was made, but they are extremely functional and it is almost universally agreed that they surpass the controls of its counterpart.

No, the GC version does not, by any standard, have better graphics.

I personally advise against the Wii version of Guitar Hero III. Not only is there no DLC for it, and the sound is in mono - those are things a fan can forgive. What is unforgivable is the fact that you've got about 1.5x more leeway to hit the notes, even in expert, compared to other versions. Their reasoning? "To better suit the Wii gamer market.".

Get Wiisident Evil 4, UR MR GAY and track down a copy of Twin Snakes on Cube. That's my recommendations.

Context: Wii remote + rechargeable batteries / Nyko Wii Charge Station

Actually, I bought some rechargeable Energizer batteries. They work fantastically well. Much better value also.

I haven't seen all the rechargeable battery sets on the market, but I'm confident that the rechargeable batteries and recharge station (together) are priced similarly to the Nyko Wii Charge Station, which I own. I also think it's really convenient to place the Wii remotes in the station rather than remove and replace the batteries. I really can't predict the lifespan of either at present.
