I'm getting a new PC setup, and I'd like to take advantage of the fact that I can play more graphically demanding/newer games. I've never been much of a PC gamer, since I'm not a big fan of shooters and I tend to suck at RTS.

So excluding shooters and most RTS, what should I look for? I've got.. Oblivion and some MMOs right now. I'd like to stick within the realm of adventure/RPG games, if possible, although I know this limits my options. I would like to stick with newer games, because Blameless has a buttload of good older games I'll eventually get around to playing.

Things I like: Customizable characters; expansive, well developed worlds; something that isn't completely linear; good soundtrack!

If a game has things like that, I can generally do without other areas being especially good. But I'm open minded.

I'm thinking about getting The Witcher, so if anyone has any experience with that, let me know how you like it.

And pls recommend more games so I can actually utilize my new PC power!

i should have been a bit clearer sorry, i meant that since the pc gaming market is so top-heavy, most people will only play those 2 genres, and most people i know here that play pc games only play those 2 genres, more or less.

I've been stuck with the same predicament, NeverWinter Nights is your friend, and so is EverQuest. Dungeon Siege is a good game, that got tedious for me, maybe you'll enjoy it. If you like GTA all of the recent ones are on PC... Rayman, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. The list goes on and on, go to Gamespot there community and ranking system is really helpful.

Never Winter Nights 2, is in my opinion, better than Never Winter Nights 1. If you liked Diablo 1, but mostly 2, you'll enjoy Hell Gate: London. It's pretty much a Diablo clone in 3D.

You could try Oblivivion and it's expansions. And possibly Bioshock.

From that, it looks to me like anything from The Elder Scrolls series (most notably Morrowind and Oblivion) will totally rock your world. They are almost completely non-linear and the worlds in each are ridiculously detailed. You can create just about any sort of character you'd like, and the music's quite good.

The Pinball game that comes with XP is ace, too. :P

I know it's technically a shooter but BioShock really is one of the best games ever made. I highly recommend it... it's not twitchy at all and has such an engrossing storyline...

If you've never played them before, Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire are both pretty fantastic, though neither is particularly new.

I'm not particularly into computer gaming anymore so that's about all I can offer.

I would also recommend Bioshock. It's an FPS but it also appeals to people who like RPG elements in their games.

Yeah, most of the people here have already mentioed the AAA's titles.

My recommendations would be:

Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion (You already got)
Bioshock (Highly Recommended)
World of Warcraft (Watch out for this game)
Hellgate London (Fun for some time, might get boring)
Knights of The old Republic 1&2 (Very good storyline)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R? (Even if it is FPS, it got some RPG element such as customize weapons and obtaining items etcs.)
Dark Messiah Might and Magic (Similiar to Oblivion)

Oh, if you hate to pay Fee and want to play some cool MMORPG game go for:
Guild Wars + the Expansions = Load of fun and for free =D

And there's always the Civ Series. I hear they're already developing Civ 5, although I don't know much about it. Civ's 1 though 4 were fun to play.

Also, there's Empire Earth II. I know it's an RTS, but it's pace is slow as fuck, as it is set up to give the players plenty of time to make decisions, making it one of the only RTS games I know of that rewards the right decision rather than the fast decision. Sadly, I haven't kept my eyes out on the games that are coming out. Most of the PC games I like are Shooters or TBS games. I'm mainly a Retro-Gamer. Partly because I like to play the oldies but goldies, but mostly because I don't have the money nor the care to spend too much on new games. lol.

Well, assuming EA doesn't screw up Spore completely, that's something to look forward to.

Pirates of the Caribbean Online is fun too. Although the free version is laced with ads.

Civ is fun. If you want a Civ that costs natch, look into FreeCiv.

You can probably find Fallout 1 and 2 as discount titles; both are pretty good. Also theres always the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games. The first Dungeonsiege is ok (though I haven't tried the second one yet).

The Sims 2 and Expansions. Hate me suckas :P

There are a few Console-type platformers, but they are most enjoyable with a pc controller. I dont know if you like platformers, like Crash/Rayman PC and etc.

MMO? Try Granado Espada. I think it should be worth your while if you can run Elder Scrolls IV. Not sure if it counts as an RTS but Battle For Middle Earth II looks good.

And yes, wait for Assassin's Creed on the PC. Ubisoft kinda killed its launch date by saying it would probably come out next year (which is weird since the 360 and PS3 versions are out now)

Eve Online if you wanna get your Space Colonization on. Granado Espada is cool... it's pretty -- but SERIOUS bot issues. RF Online looks like a modernized Xenogears, it's pretty boss... Don't get Warcraft. Don't get FFXI. Also... when Aion comes out get that.

but besides your normal MMORPG's...like was said earlier, most of the compy games are FPS's and RTS's...

Hmm... I recommend Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. It's a nice adventure game that your new computer should run pretty easily.

Dreamfall is pretty great, but it pales in comparison to The Longest Journey. In a nutshell, play both if you like point and click adventure games.

I believe I saw the "Game of the Year" edition, which comes with The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, and the Dreamfall OST.

Another adventure game (also point-and-click), that was recommended to me once before, is "The Black Mirror". But I have not tried the game, nor have I looked into the elements yet. Perhaps I'll look for it once exams are done in a couple weeks. Apparetly the reception for this one was quite mixed. (I'd like to hear from anyone who has tried this one out)

Some other titles you might want to keep an eye out for if you're interested in the classic type of adventure games are "Secret Files: Tunguska", and maybe the upcoming "Limbo of the Lost" (though I've only read about this one on wikipedia).

Fall-Out 1&2, and Septerra Core are awsome.

It's newer than the NWN series and more beautiful in in many respects! Any doubts? Well, it rans for weeks
without a hitch; despite the fact that my Low-budget Notebook rends taxing work under Vista.

hey prak. if you had to pick one, to introduce someone who's never played that genre and would like to get into it...which would you suggest?

I just tried out Folklore for the PS3. I found it quite fun, and it's probably a good game for anyone wanting to get into gaming in general, not just adventure (well, it's more an action-adventure game). Also, it's a modern take on dark fantasy if that appeals to you.

I believe it was released back in October.

You pretty much do the same thing the whole game. The first two missions or so are cool I guess but after that it just turns to poop. I've only played three missions jftr.

The AI is pretty terrible too in that it is really easy to avoid the guards.

anyway, i have enough games to last me now, thanks for the people who actually helped me out with what I was looking for and didn't just recommend any PC game they could think of.

Portal is more of a first person puzzle game than anything else, you should get it and give the other 4 games to blameless.

I just got through Spiderman: Friend or Foe, It was okay, bit short but was decent lol.

There is a number of games on the market aside from FPS and RTS. The things I'd recommend would be:

The Longest Journey and Dreamfall:The Longest Journey-I heard these are quite good. Never got the chance to try it out myself... yet
Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit-A game that sets new standards
Also, be sure to try out TES3:Morrowind.

The Witcher because it's a beautiful RPG, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion+KOTN+Shivering Isles ( because tons of kwazy mods. Download them from www.tesnexus.com ) and Hellgate: London is just pure fun plus Collector's Edition comes with a beautiful graphic novel that's a must-have! ( i don't recommend Bioshock for certain issue concerning 2k dumby protection) If u like strategy i recommend Medieval II: Total War, World In Conflict and Command and Conquer: Tiberium Wars. sexpot
