Are you ripping from the game output to wav first, or straight to a compressed format? If you're going to wav first, you can get any number of Lame front-end programs (like Advalame) and using that you could encode to any quality mp3 you wanted.

I think most people will want them. We get fussy over whether or not a soundtrack is complete.:-P There's no rush though.=)

I'm off to play Twilight Princess for a while.

Certainly great to see so much of the soundtrack up so soon after the US launch and always appreciate the hard work that goes into rips (as I've done them before). However...

Why are people still encoding mp3s at 128kbps when that was the standard like ten years ago? Nowadays you should be encoding at nothing less than 192kbps, but VBR is recommended. It's not like we're still using Windoze 98, 5GB hard drives, and 14.4 baud modems. Speed and storage is no longer a problem. Quality is everything.

Peppydude101
11-15-2007, 08:14 PM
Capcom the ripper couldn't get the software to go to 192kbps. But they might be able to do it now.

That's cool. I've been using this somewhat detailed process for encoding everything. It will take a few minutes to set everything up, but this is what the professional hobbyists use:

http://www.slightlydark.com/forums/showthread.php?t=850

You basically download Exact Audio Copy (EAC) and the LAME plugin and set up the software as described in that post. Take your 44khz wavs (sadly it won't support 48khz) and use EAC to encode them to MP3 using LAME. If you want your mp3s tagged, you can then use a nice piece of software called MP3tag.

http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html

All this stuff is free and trust me, there is a notable difference in audio quality. You don't have to use this method, but better quality mp3s do matter.

Thanks for the help, but Im able to rip the OST in 192k quality, and I have 13 Mario Galaxy tracks ripped again now. Im ripping some missing songs, so stay alert at the forum, maybe tomorrow I will post a new thread with the "new" Mario Galaxy OST in 192k and with a few missing tracks (I have ripped a boss theme with no sound effects^^)

Offtopic: The thread of RE: Umbrella chronicles OST have been updated with the first 15 tracks, in 192k^^

11-15-2007, 11:51 PM
Let me add, other frontends for lame should work fine as well. Foobar, WinLAME, Lamedrop and so on.

-V 2 --vbr-new should give the best size/quality ratio according to the lame wiki

Not the best quality though... At least make it VBR if you're going to rip it at 128 kbps. The point is... You actually DID it, so good job to you!

Obviously the bestest track from the soundtrack:
The Bowser battle theme :(

My heart aches due to the lack of this particular track. ;_;

EDIT: And what's with all the fading at the start of the tracks?
It isn't entirely necessary to let the tracks fade in, is it?
It's not THAT annoying but...well, it still is a little bit.

What about the various stages of the "Planetarium/Observatory" hub area? The one in there is just the first one when you're just arriving. As you restore power, the song gets more grandeur and sounds like a symphonic waltz. In the beginning, it's soft and similar to a lullaby... and it just builds up as you restore power.

If you can get the different stages of the hub area, that'd be awesome.

Hi there, your rip was brought to my attention earlier this week from a member on the forum I frequent. I was doing my own rip at the time but realized some quality issues with your current version, so I continued on my own. It's good to see you're working on the quality :). I hope you're done soon so I can see you're work.

I'm not attempting to steal your thunder, it's just the forum I frequent only has approx. 10 active members, hardly a big audience :(. So i'm simply trying to get my version out there to more people. I held off posting this here for a while since I thought it would be rude of me. If this post is out of line then i'll kindly remove it :).

My rip has 45 tracks so far, all encoded into MP3's at 48kHz VBR quality 1. There are still several tracks i've yet to rip so I expect it to climb to at least 50 or possibly more.

Thanks for your time :).

Melty Motlen Galaxy is hell prominence galaxy

Xeiros

No the Galaxy is called Melty Molten not Hell Prominence at least in the American localization. Even then Hell Prominence is not on the track list for the new version he is uploading anyway so what is your point here. He doesn't have a stereo rip of the song no matter what it's called.

In fact I'm hoping this new version of the rip isn't just a higher quality rip of the same mono tracks.

Ops, Melty molten galaxy is Dreagnought galaxy, a mistake in the track list. Melty molten is in position 56. Theres a Planetarium version missing yet. Dont know the problem with the stereo or mono. Im listening the ripping in stereo mode at home, but if you say is in mono, jut dont downoad the OST and wait for other rippers or the official OST. I cant do nothing more...sorry

Hurray a two parter! Now everyone will have to wait 2-3 hours not counting actual download time to download the whole thing. How swell. First don't split the archive and second don't use rapidshare. Sadly if you had just uploaded it as one archive instead of two the limit would not matter.

Dont be ridiculous, you dont have to wait 2-3 hours to download the next archive, just wait 60 minutes normally.
I not doig that way to annoy the people, I couldent upload it in one archive cause the rapidshare limits. It seems everything bothers you man. The next time rip the OST for yourself and everybody happy

Your stereo uses the same signal for both left and right channel so it's actually mono outputted through stereo.

Thanks man, but dont waist your time mentioning Xeiros. He comes here and giving orders, "do this, do that" but, bah, it doesnt matter. To read his replyes, makes me think that ripping Mario Galaxys OST and uploading here, have been a time waist... but at the same time, Im glad to see so much people thanking for the OST.
Ive ripped the OST for me, to have the music of an awesome game allways at hand. I know theres a lot of people who loves the music of that game, thats why decided to upload it here (Like:RE Umbrella Chronicles or The Darkness OSTs), and I know too that my OST it hasnt the best quality in the world.
If people think theres no enough quality, cause is in mono or wathever, hey, no problem to me, Im agree, and its easy... just search another rip in better quality, right? ;) Its nice to read peoples comments, sugestions and requests, but theres no need to "atack" me like Xeiros do I think

!

Hi again :). I see you're still having trouble ripping to proper stereo. The problem most likely is the method you're using to record the wav's to. When you're making the original recording you're either recording to a mono file. Or it could stem from whatever settings you have for your hardware/software.

I was thinking, since you're having problems with getting good audio quality. We could team up on making a full good quality rip? :) The main issues i'm having with my rip is finding areas within some levels to get no sound effects. One level in particular that has been driving me nuts that you have is you're version of "First Steps". For the life of me i'm unable to get rid of the meteors in that level.

Tell me what you think of that plan :P. And perhaps we can please these people? ;)

For those who are curious: When I rip the audio I run the left and right rca jacks from the Wii, to the rca inputs to my external m-audio firewire audiophile. Which I then record to wav files at 96kHz (all my wav files total just under 2GB). After that I then encode said wav's to MP3's at 48kHz VBR quality 1.

Its a great idea, If you need some help finding good spots on the levels. Ive been investigating a lot to find them.
About the problems betwen mono and stereo... Im working with a portable PC. When I rip the audio I run the left and right rca jacks from the Wii, to the the SPDIF input on the portable PC. Maybe it should be the problem with mono?
About ripping without souds, First of all is finding a good place, obviously. In some levels you have to put the first person view and aim to the correct direction... in other levels, you have to bend Mario holding the button since you finish the rip, this is important cause If you bend Mario, you dont let him make noises.

I see, I haven't worked much with SPDIF so I can't give a positive answer. My best guess would probably be whatever you're using to convert the wii's rca jacks to a single jack for SPDIF. However a quick search on wikipedia for info on SPDIF makes it all the more confusing to me as to why it's happening to you. Wish I could be of more help.

I'll try and come up with a list of tracks that you've managed to get no sound effects on. For sure the first one is First Steps, it's been driving me crazy!

Well, the track: First steps... Just after the first small planet with the black hole, you fly to an small metal yellow colored planet. Finish all the mushrooms first, and then... You know, theres a guy asking for a key at the top of the planet, so go at the bottom, far from him, and there use the first person view and try to aim in the best direction here, since you dont hear noises (black hole, explosions or the guy at the top)
Ask me whenever you want if you have problems to find a good place to rip without sounds

Which of these is the BGM from the boss battle with dino petey, the space spider, and that kind of boss music?

crazymoose
11-20-2007, 03:15 AM
None of them are. While sebasrd24 has ripped a ton of the songs, there are still quite a few left. Especially the boss music since it is almost impossible to rip them without the sound effects of the actual battle getting in the way of the music. Be patient, finding the spots in order to get rid of the background sound effects is not easy, especially with boss battles, plus, the actual ripping itself takes quite a while.

Sorry to bug you again :). Still having trouble getting rid of those meteors. The only thing that remains is when the meteors "fire" or first appear. Could you give me a better idea of where to place mario, perhaps use that green pipe that runs along the planet as a reference. Thanks a bunch.

Sebasrd24, can you redo "Bowser's final reactor"? Some asshead snapped a camera in it.

Ghastly and Battlerock.

And a lot of the galaxies' intros are skipped. They can be played without sound by dying, and restarting the galaxy-- skipping the opening cutscene.

This is true, it's how I snagged the intros for Honeyhive (original and fast), Battlerock, Toy Time, and Sweet Sweet (my rip it's called Nostalgia 1). Problem is, this doesn't work for all levels. It's only rare cases where the check point happens to be at a good location to grab the intro without sound effects. If anyone finds more than just the ones i've listed, feel free to contribute ;).

What would be good is a list of levels still needed so we can work on finding spots and such.

silentscience
11-20-2007, 07:29 AM
For intros it's basically everything except those four i've listed.

I've continued work so far on the rip, 51 tracks as of now. Theres only a few issues however if I wish to have as many as "sebasrd24". Several of the new tracks have sound effects, i'm sure you've heard them.

If these sounds are acceptable then I can certainly include them in the rip. With these new tracks, plus the ones I have yet to rip (according to his list) the total tracks will climb to 66.

Check it out: http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/news.shtml#11029

In January 2008, a 2-disc Galaxy OST will be released in Japan (one disc has 28 in-game tracks, the other disc has 53 "variations", whatever that means). So, in due time, we WILL have a high-quality soundtrack!

Thought you all would want to know...

As far as I remember, I ripped that song on the place mentioned, or near that place(in the first small yellow colored planet) For that track, I was searching for a long time to place Mario in a good place. Like some people says, die allows you to start the level with the whole beggining of the track, but that dosnt work allways due the place you start and the sounds effects on background

So how about Bowser's battle theme? It's like, everyone's favourite track, but no one has ripped it yet. I'd think it's impossible to rip cause of the sound effects, but you guys clearly ripped the Bowser Jr. battle theme.

Oh man...dont compare Bowsers battle theme with bowsers Jr robot reactor. In bowsers Jr theme, you can stay at the bottom of the planet, without hearing the blast of the canyons. The giant robot stay quiet too, so its "easy" to rip the track.
Bowsers battle theme is very different, he comes to you and dont stop to jump, fire and make noises, and you have to move, jump and run all the time.

PD: I know bowsers battle theme It's like, everyone's favourite track. Its one of my favourites too, but, wat can I do? Too much sound effects in that battles

Theres only one new theme in that compilation: The rolling green, and I have to thank him for that theme, its so difficult to get it.
Megalegs moon is the same than= Bowser Jr.s robot reactor-1
After the claxon is the same tan= Bowser Jrs robot reactor-3 (In his version, it sounds a little bit the robot on background, I think it souds higher than in my rip of that theme...)

About the quality, you know what people say about my rip in mono, so Silents versions should be better than mine due to stereo or mono. In relation of soud effects on background, I dont know wich version is better

Can someone be kind enough to post the song of the start of the game, when Bowser appears on the airships? It's the ONLY song I want, which brings me back to Mario 3. I downloaded the first set of songs, but to my dismay it wasn't there. The wait is killing me.180 remaining for another download opportunity on Rapidshare is torture.
